PARKS & RESORTS ACQUIRES FURUVIK Parks & Resorts Scandinavia, the leading amusement park group in Scandinavia, has today announced that it acquires Furuvik in Gävle. This park, with its unique environment, history and prominent position in the field of animal care, will reinforce the group’s strategy for success: to provide complete, world class experiences. “We are extremely proud to be the new owners of Furuvik. It supplements and underpins the range of zoos and amusement parks that we run at present. Furuvik is a well tended, popular attraction, and we are convinced that it has the potential for further development. We are looking forward to a close partnership with the municipality of Gävle. This acquisition is another step forward in our ambition to be able to offer top class parks all over Sweden. We know the value of developing destinations in close cooperation with municipalities and local trade and industry. Together with the current staff at the park and the development resources available within the group, we will be able to take advantage of the visions and the enormous potential available to us,” says Jan Roy, CEO of Parks & Resorts.Parks & Resorts will be taking over the park from Furuvik Management AB, which is owned by the CEO of Furuvik Tom Widorson and a cooperative society comprising the staff, among others. The parties have agreed not to go public with the purchase price. Furuvik was founded in 1900 by Oscar Jakobsson as a leisure and recreation park in an American style. In the 1930s, the park was purchased by Gösta Nygren and his family, who then continued to run the park for 45 years. The municipality of Gävle took over in 1983 and continued with this arrangement until 2004, when Furuvik Management AB bought the facility. Over the last few years, the park has underpinned its position as an exciting, family-oriented amusement park, focusing on features such as the world of monkeys, an attraction area and a fabulous pool area.

dubbis Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 If you're fluent swedish you'll find this article interesting: http://gd.se/nyheter/jobbpengar/1.2547403-25-miljoner-ska-lyfta-furuvik However, if you're not familiar to this not-so-widely-spoken language i can tell you that Furuvik and their new owners Parks & Resorts Scandinavia invests about 25MSEK in the park for 2011, Furuviks biggest investment so far. Not much is known yet but CEO Tom Widorsson reveals that there's going to be a new coaster for Furuvik and (this is promising) it's going to be a tough one.

For example, with new coasters we've seen websites with webcams, pictures, animated videos, statistics and building blogs. With the new expansion/investment in Furuvik - not much so far. BUT - at least we now have a name for the coaster: ROCKET! Does this sound like something launched anyone?

BUT - at least we now have a name for the coaster: ROCKET! Does this sound like something launched anyone? And the new coaster for Furuvik 2011 is.......TA DA! Alton Towers old Jet Star 2 a.k.a. Black Hole, refurbished by Gerstlauer. Well they had a lot of plans for 2011 but only 25 million SEK (4.2 million USD). But it's definitely a move in the right way. Maybe a brand new coaster within 3 to 4 years?
dubbis Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Arbetarbladet, a local paper in Gävle (Sweden), posted this just before the opening of Rocket @ Furuvik. The guys testing the ride are described as experienced riders but they admit they're nervous (?!). Gerstlauer seem to have done a proper job with the refurbishing.
