jlines Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 We are coming into LA to catch a cruise ship. We have a SF season pass so we thought we would go to MM for a few hours. Unfortunately, we don't get in (SNA) until 12:40pm on Saturday and get on the ship on Sunday. The last time we were there was 1995 so we of course want to hit whatever is new since then. I know this is probably crazy and may prove very frustrating but can anyone suggest a plan of action? Thanks.
ebl Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Arriving at 12:40pm, huh? Remember the amount of time it will take to claim your checked baggage, getting a rental car, etc. That could take an hour or so in itself. It's about 80 miles from the airport to SFMM, so that in itself will take you most likely two hours or more getting through the traffic. Regardless of which date you're coming, be sure to check the calendar here for park hours before you even leave home. Honestly, I admire you for wanting to take on this challenge, but realistically, you may not be able to spend much time at SFMM. And on a Saturday, you'll need all the time you can get. Should you decide to go for it, I wish you the best of luck. Eric EDIT: This may well be one of those times when Gold Flash Pass is your friend.
rcdude Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Option A: Get a Gold or Platinum Flash Pass. You will likely be able to get on most major attractions. As EBL said, you likely will not get to the park until around 4 or so. Option B: Go to Tatsu, Terminator, Riddler's Revenge, and Goliath. If you still have time left, go in reverse stopping at Scream, Superman, and Deja Vu. Whatever you do, make sure you are in line for X2 before they close it (I don't know if they still do it, but it used to close early on weekends). Regardless, it is very difficult to get on a decent amount of rides at SFMM on a Saturday, even in a full day, unless you buy some type of Flash Pass. I was just there for West Coast Bash and was unable to get on everything even with ERT, although that was because Deja Vu was broken for both ERT sessions and I chose not to wait an hour and a half for Goliath during the day then didn't want to leave Terminator at night. If you do visit the park, I wish you good luck. If not, try again at some point in the future. Even a weekday in the summer is typically less crowded than the average Saturday, and if you have a full day and even the regular Flash Pass it is difficult to not get on everything.
scooterdoug Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 FlashPass, FlashPass, FlashPass...preferably gold or platinum. SFMM on a Saturday can be hell on earth! Though, I haven't been on a Saturday in at least a decade (personally, I always go on a weekday in spring or on SuperBowl Sunday), every Saturday I ever went was crowded beyond belief. That, and the ride ops at the Mountain are not the most efficient in the world (though they are getting better). I have personally passed on invitations for Saturday trips to SFMM, there is no way I will set foot in that park on a Saturday. However, if I were to go, I would make sure to have at least a Gold FlashPass. Honestly, I think the FlashPass is Six Flag's greatest addition since El Toro. Good luck, and have fun! -Doug
