Expect more than your heart rate to rise when you jump on board WhiteWater World's latest wild ride. The Wedgie power waterslide will shoot people feet-first in a near vertical descent before they barrel through a loop and smash into the splash pool below -- sending their bathers skywards in the process. The ride is expected to open in time for the April school holidays and Dreamworld will launch a new light and laser show at the same time.

Dreamworld CEO Noel Dempsey said the light show, called Illuminate, would be a permanent fixture at the theme park. "This is a laser like you've never seen it before. It takes viewers on a journey into a magical environment of artistry using light and emotional effects," he said. Nickelodeon cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants will be the first star of the 3D laser technology, with the possibility of reprogramming the equipment for other shows in the future.

Laservision CEO Paul McCloskey said park-goers would be able to move around and still enjoy the images. "Two aqua screens will provide for startlingly high contrasting images in pseudo-holographic format," she said. "There are three high-powered laser systems that will produce combinations of shapes, images or the spirit of the image which allow characters to move around the arena."

Meanwhile, Warner Village Theme Parks spokesman Bob White said his company would also be opening a new water ride at Wet'n'Wild in September -- the Aqua Loop. People will be released, trap-door style, into four see-through waterslides on the multimillion-dollar attraction. "We expect that we will have more detail on the new attraction we are going to open this year for Sea World in the next few weeks," said Mr White.

Warner Brothers also announced late last year that it would be creating a white Christmas at Movie World this year, with snowfall and one million Christmas lights.

The Illuminate Light & Laser Spectacular will magically transform Main Street into a SpongeBob SquarePants’ fantasy and a 3-Dimensional peek at his underwater home. Using laser like you’ve never seen before, stories will be lifted from the real to the unreal. Combined with emotional sound tracks, special effects, pyrotechnics and architectural lighting are set to enthral guests. Illuminate runs daily at 5.00pm from April 2nd to 16th and is complimentary for all Dreamworld or World Pass ticket holders.

Gut wrenching, heart pounding, teeth chattering. That’s the feeling you get when you step inside the launch chamber of WhiteWater World’s newest waterslide, The Wedgie. Cross your arms and peer over the spectators five storeys below. As the trap door triggers, you plummet down the translucent pipe and through a human sized half coil before smashing into the splash down pool below. There the classic Aussie Cossie braking system kicks in and you realise you’ve been “Wedgied by WhiteWater World”.
