Camelot Theme Park

Recommended Posts

I did a quick search and found little to no mention of this theme park, except some threads about Knightmare opening in 2007.

Has anyone been lately? More importantly does anyone know when The Rack was last open? I went a couple of weeks ago, and it was shut, looked like it had been shut for quite some time too...does anyone know why/if it will ever open again?

Yes the park is currently open.I heard It wasn't supposed to but recieved new ownership and has opened for the summer and according to a Trip Report from another website, "it's the busiest it's been since 1988" which is great to see for a park really struggling financially. Apparently all the main rides had large ques with Knightmare and Whirlwind topping the charts with hour long ques.

Don't have any idea about the Rack though.

When I was there last month I didn't see it running at any point. Though, I was only there for the last hour plus it was very, very quiet due to the terrible weather that day. I didn't see any flat rides running because of this but I did see employees sitting at the ride stations. I didn't notice any at the Rack though.

I went a few days ago mate and i can tell you that even though i have been going for at least 5-6 years now, it never ceases to excite me when i go on one of the brilliant attractions that this park has to offer to me.

Firstly, i'm only 14 and some might say that Camelot is best suited for people of my age but i can tell you that i went with my family and even my parents can't keep a straight face when whizzing round on the dragon flyer. i do however see that the park is struggling because of the recession but besides some minor blips with the Rack and a few snarls at the 3rd tube in Pendragons plunge the park remains one of the best parks in the UK and in my opinion one of the most enjoyable because of its unbeatable shows and jousting.

Secondly, I know there are some people saying that Camelot is out-dated and really needs some support to get it going again but really the true fact is that these people are not willing to look beyond the rides and look at the other attractions, One of which is the jousting! i mean where else are you going to find somewhere which shows jousting in the 21st century that is completely free of charge, lasts 45mins minimum and never gets tiring or boring. Then there is the dragon flyer and even though its not extremely fast ( recorded only at 20mph ) its still the only diesel powered roller coaster in the WORLD!!

Finally, i have recently seen alot of speculations and rumours that The Rack at Camelot is now dead. Well. i can now tell you that the Rack is not dead but is indeed not doing well. the Rack (like the Gauntlet in 2006) was experiencing problems on a scale that where costing the park to much and not really earning it back for them. the Rack is in need of some major part reparations, and when the park was rumoured to be going into receivership a few years ago then the park decided that is was not worth the money to repair i because it was not known whether or not ANY rides would still be there in a few years so they put the parts on hold. however, id the park gets a good enough profit earn this season (now finished) then the park will continue to be open to the public. But if they are going to increase the parks lease to 5 years + or if they are going to keep it at a 1year is yet to be foreseen.

Anyway i hope this gives some people some answers

Your park fanatic

Liam Shannon

Bad news for R.D. and other Schwarzkopf fans - Camelot Theme Park won't be operating in 2013:

Roy Page of Knights Leisure, who own the park, said:

“It is with reluctance we have had to take this very difficult decision.

“Following a number of years of declining visitor numbers, the 2012 season proved particularly challenging.”

Mr Page went on to say: “Whilst we have become used to inclement summer weather in the UK during the past few years, a combination of the wettest summer for 100 years, the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations followed by the spectacular television coverage of the Olympic Games during our busiest months of the summer and the school holidays had a major impact on visitors to Camelot.

“I would like to thank all the staff who have helped to make Camelot Theme Park one of the region’s most entertaining visitor attractions and our many loyal visitors for their continued support over the past 29 wonderful years.”

Now, they could always just be skipping the 2013 season and will reopen in 2014, but...

Save teh Knightmare?

Seeing my post above the one you have just posted, it makes me nostalgic and sad to see this post.
