RCT3D Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 This is my first NL coaster. Fully hand crafted, took me 1 day (approximately 20 hours of sculpting, and 4 hours of riding) Please Enjoy The Helix.nltrack Enjoy, please comment The Helix-090625205154095.bmp The Helix-090625205139092.bmp The Helix-090625204955079.bmp The Helix-090625204919074.bmp The Helix-090625204908071.bmp The Helix-090625204844066.bmp The Helix-090625204738058.bmp The Helix-090625204618051.bmp The Helix-090625204335035.bmp The Helix-090625203518005.bmp The Helix-090625202225002.bmp The Helix-090625201932001.bmp
AmyUD06 Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 I love the layout and the terraforming and I was glad to see you didn't use Relative Roll, which can screw up a wooden coaster sometimes (especially with auto-supports). All in all, not bad for a first attempt, but you did make some of the classic "rookie" mistakes: -Banking was WAY off quite often. Sometimes too much, other times not enough. -Pacing could use some work. -A few anti-realism qualities: --For this (and almost all) coaster types, brakes while the track is curving is a no-no. --Using "hidden brakes" to enable an extra block section. --You've got a MCBR heading uphill...yeah, you've got the LIMs on there, but still not great. --Train is way too long for PTC 3-bench cars. IMHO, spend a little more time working out the banking angles through either trial-and-error or the are calculators over at the No Limits Development Center. Personally I'd stay away from tools like AHG and Elementary until you've reached the pinnacle of what you can do free-hand.
themeparkman25 Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 What I liked: -The size. It had the potential to have a lot of speed, fast turns and airtime! -The layout. The layout would appear to have a fun and unique set of elements. What I didn't like: -The layout. You may ask how I like and and don't like it and it is as simple as this. Though the layout has the possibility to be fast and fun, you took it down by the poor banking and awkward pacing. -The brakes. I don't know what is going on here. You had brakes in places brakes would never work. What you can improve on: -When in the simulator, watch the forces and then adjust the ride to not have awkward forces and unnecessary (or necessary) banking. Also watch for the pacing, for how large the ride is it seemed fairly slow at times. -When you say its your first wood, use wood supports instead of steel haha. I had to tease you for it, sorry. Overall it wasn't bad but definitely could use some work. Keep it up!
RCT3D Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 I spent hours trying to keep the G's below 5. But no matter what I did nothing was working, so I gave up (which is something I RARELY do). And I no the pace is slow at points and the brakes are misplaced, but those are just because of the attempts to lower the G's. And I got so annoyed with these problems that I just couldn't spend any more time trying to fix the banking.
themeparkman25 Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Don't get discouraged, it is a tough program to master. Just keep plugging away, trying different things and seeing what works and then eventually you will be a master of the program. But in the mean time keep trying.
