bpmitchell Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Well I made a stop by the park today on my way to DC for some time off and spring break with my g/f Sara. The park was completely dead with about 45-50 cars in the parking lot and lots of rides not running. Dominator was on and off most of the day with the train getting stuck in the break run 2 times in a row. On my way out of the park it was stuck with passengers and it was pouring rain. I spent 2 hrs in the park and catched up on rides I didn't ride on opening day. I did Dominator in the front row with no wait, Volcano 2 times with no wait front row 1 time with no wait at all, anaconda, and took lots of pics of Americana and El Dorado. Here are the photos: Americana is still under construction, not much going on today except for some lights going in Americana again 4 cars were missing the red roof Here are 2 of the cars missing the roof together The other 2 cars missing the red roof Here is a closeup of the car The Queue line fence is made of wood like El Dorado which is classic Americana Logo looks nice Workers putting on light bulbs Americana car logo closeup El Dorado Logo This photo stands out and would look nice on KD's rides page for El Dorado The crane is working on the grizzly track work, it was moving around a little today Closeup of the crane A beautiful photo of Americana through the trees And now a photo for all you guys that have seen or not seen a completely empty queue line for Volcano before: I hope you guys enjoy! -Brian-
griffon Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Nice report Brian, I thought about skipping out of work early yesterday to go there but had some things come up. I don't believe I've ever seen the Volcano area completely empty like that, you have some valuable and unique shots there. I'm liking the way Americana looks too, can't wait to see it in person. I may try to head up there on Friday.
KDCOASTERFAN Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 They've made quite a bit of progress it seems on Americana since opening day & after seeing the ride in person you gotta admit that it looks very photogenic in it's location & just adds that special something that was lacking for years in that section of the park.
bpmitchell Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 forgot to let everyone know photos are from yesterday, sorry for the mixup.
okinawaboy11 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I was there too on Monday. The rain was a great way of keeping people out. there were probably 100-200 cars in the lot all day. The rain stopped around 1 or 2, I can't remember. But they had all the rides running except Grizzly and Hurler. Americana was still being worked on as you can see from those pictures. Everything was a walk on all day. I did somewhat of a "marathon" on Rebel Yell and Anaconda. Dominator of course had the no re-ride policy. At a couple points during our visit we were the only ones on some of the coasters. It was kinda creepy almost! Dominator - 6 Anaconda - 14 consecutive re-rides, 16 rides all together FoF - 3 Volcano - 4 Avalanche - 2 Rebel Yell - 9 consecutive 11 all together Drop Zone - 2 Shockwave - 1 Log Flume - 1 Ricochet - 3 Scooby Doo - 1 It was a coaster enthusiasts dream pretty much, no lines all day every ride was a walk on...even with 1 train operation on every coaster.
bpmitchell Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 I had to leave early because I had my g/f sitting in the car waiting for me and it was raining so I only stayed 2 hrs. I do plan on going to the park today if time persists.
The Bebes Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 your g/f stayed in the car for 2 hours whilw you were having fun in a theme park?!?! How lame.
