Sir Clinksalot Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 The Wii will now support up to 32GB SD cards (which one would assume that means SDHC cards). From Kotaku and the GDC... Hitting at the same time as Nintendo President Satoru Iwata's keynote speech at GDC, a new system update is available for the Nintendo Wi that adds an SD card menu option to the Wii menu. Clicking on the SD card icon brings up a message telling users that they can launch channels from an SD storage card by temporarily utilizing the Wii system memory. It then warns that save games should be moved to Wii system memory before launching games.Speaking at Nintendo's keynote at GDC, Nintendo's Bill Trinnen explains that users can now download directly from the Wii Shop Channel to an SD card, launching the games directly from the card. The SD card menu features 20 screens of 12 channels a piece, meaning with the right sized card you can expect to stroe up to 240 games. As of update 4.0, SD cards of up to 32GB are now supported. It certainly looks like this is the answer to Wii owners' storage woes. What are you waiting for? Run to your Wii and give it a try! http://kotaku.com/5183763/wii-system-update-adds-play-from-sd-card-support
Sir Clinksalot Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 All is not perfect in update 4.0 land. Potential problem with the new SD card set up ... I got my Virtual Console games moved to a 4GB SDHC card with absolutely no problem. Go into Rock Band 2 in order to start moving over my downloaded songs to the new card, and the card is not compatable with RB2. Checked the RB boards, and people are having the same issue. Still no word from Harmonix or Nintendo regarding the compatability of SDHC cards with Rock Band. I'm assuming Guitar Hero World Tour would be having the same issue.
AllenA07 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I've not done the upgrade yet, but that blue light on my Wii is inviting me to do it right now. I don't have much of a space issue but I've been very careful in my downloads to make sure it doesn't become an issue.
Sir Clinksalot Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Yeah, I don't have a space issue either, but it would be nice to have the option of more space.
Primogen18 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Rockband and GH:WT are NOT compatible with SDHC, only SD (and I believe up to 2 gb) Everything else is compatible with SDHC up to 32 gb. Im hoping this means more DLC, possible for Conduit, which has a new site here: http://www.seeing-is-deceiving.com/ I can't wait, I was going to start a new thread about the site because I am anticipating this game so much. I don't know any of the codes, I think one is "quarantine", they are talking about it on the IGN boards.
