Need some help

Recommended Posts

I've been using Rhino 3D to create buildings for my coasters in No Limits, and when I import them into the track, only 3 of the 4 sides are visible - 1 side is always completely black due to the environment lighting (I think). Is there anything I can change either in the 3d program or No Limits to get all sides to show or is it just the way No Limits renders it? Just wondering if anyone has had any similar problems or any ideas, thanks!

This tutorial is for anyone who is experiencing the same problem as Intamin10.

Sometimes 3d editors, like Rhino and Sketchup, will export 3ds files with the ambiance set to pure black. When opened with NL, this causes faces not directly exposed to the light source (sun) to appear pure black. Not good.

Although there are probably countless 3d editors you can use to fix this with, we will be using a simple, free one called Anim8or. So first, follow the link and download Anim8or v0.95c:

www.anim8or.com/main/index.html

After you've downloaded and installed Anim8or, open it and under Object, click Import, then select your troublesome 3ds file and click open.

Now that you've loaded your object, we can start the actual fixing. Click the Materials button (1) to open up the materials window (2). The materials window will display a list of all the materials present in the object. Double-click on each material to open the materials property window (3), and set the color labeled 'Ambient' (4) to pure white. You'll need to do this individually for all the materials.

After you've done that, go back up to Object -> Export. Select 3ds as the file type and export it to the object folder in the NL directory. Now when you open the object with NL, it should appear realistically shaded.
