Josh Linn Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I'm currently in the process of planning a N.E. trip for July, and right now it just consists of the usual suspects, Lake Compounce and Six Flags New England. I just had a few questions before I set anything major in stone: -Right now the plan is to get to Lake Compounce after 5 PM to take advantage of the reduced admission. My thinking right now is that there's really only a few rides that seem to intrigue me (Boulder Dash, Wildcat, Zoomerang, the screamin' swing, and the drop tower), and we should be able to finish up everything + get multiple rides on Boulder Dash before close. Is there anything I'm missing and should I be able to get everything done from 5-close? -Where can I find good discounts/coupons for SFNE? Any local supermarkets/gas stations that I should look at? -Quassy. I know that it's fairly close to Lake Compounce. Is it worth a stop or no? I don't know much about it personally. -Are there any other parks in between Northeast PA and Mass. that are on the way that I should look at? I know there's the nearby park thing on RCDB, but I'd like to hear any opinions on nearby places. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Carnage Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 -Quassy. I know that it's fairly close to Lake Compounce. Is it worth a stop or no? I don't know much about it personally. Only if you're a credit whore. Quass has a crappy mouse and kiddy coaster. It's your average crappy gheto park. If you want as many credits as possible, then sure stop in and get them. But if you're looking for just looking for a nice extra park to stop at, then skip it.

Cyclone411 Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 I'm sorry some folks think Quassy is a "ghetto park". It's an old trolley park out in the country, it only has one coaster, the aforementioned Mouse, but it is a unique mouse - Herschell built it as a Monster Mouse -- It has two large straight drops before the typical switchbacks. It has traditional "bobsled" (one behind the other) seat cars and they are comfy padded. If you like Mouse coasters, this is one of the best and certainly unique. It was built in 1953 which makes it one of the oldest steel coasters. Free admission (usually $5 to park unless you use the lot at the baseball field across the street) You can buy a ticket for a single ride. It's less than an hour from Compounce. They also have a Paratrooper and Trabant if you like those. It's a small, family owned park by a nice lake. Not trashy.
larrygator Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Monster Mouse at Quassy may be the scariest operating coaster in the US. At Lake Compounce the Skyride is worth doing for the scenery. The water rides at The Lake get you very wet if that is a draw. You should have no problem getting everything done between 5PM and closing. I'm not sure what route you are driving but Rye Playland is probably the only park close.
