Homer Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Short version: Left knee hurts and causes me to limp. Don't want to cause too much stress and I don't want to abuse the service of park wheelchairs. A few months ago, my left knee started acting up in throbbing pains by some way I don't know how it started. According to my chiropractor, I got a torn ACL/Meniscus (muscle that connects the knee with the leg and thigh). The pain normally comes in episodes of sorts varying from a few days to weeks. My most recent "episode" of my left knee acting up was brought on upon possibly by my visit to Hollywood Studios last week. The night after, my knee woke me up with a LOT of throbbing pain and for the better part of last week, I was in pain. Right now, my knee hurts a little bit and getting better, but here's the part where it goes into my question. On Friday, I'm going to BGA and lately I've been weary of my left knee. I'm debating between three choices: * Rent a wheelchair.* Wear a kneebrace.* Not go. In a way, I would feel guilty if I rent a wheelchair, since I think wheelchairs are more for older guests or people with broken bones. My kneebrace works somewhat, but I doubt it can handle a full day at BGA. Lastly, I haven't been to BGA in a while, and I really want to check out Jungala. So TPR users, I have 2 questions for you. What "qualifies" a person to rent a wheelchair? Should I rent a wheelchair?
spaceace12 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I think you have to do what you have to do. If you feel you would do better in a wheelchair, then that is what you should do. If you want to enjoy the day without pain, get one.
ebl Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I have no problem with anyone using a wheelchair in a park, provided they have a legitimate reason to do so. You may want to tape up your knee so it's obvious why you have the wheelchair, just in case anyone gives you dirty looks or hassles you. Eric
Teacups Make Me Sick Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 You said yourself that you don't think you can make it a full day with the brace. Seriously, who cares what other people might think...it is very sweet of you to think that wheelchairs should be reserved for older people and those that really need one. But you do have a very legitimate reason to rent a wheelchair. An ACL tear is painful and debilitating...if you don't take care of yourself, surgery is 5x more painful and expensive. I had a friend that had to have surgery and she was in physical therapy for 6 months. Plus, just think...you don't have to wait on line for any rides.
