dino Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 I'll try to keep it light so as not to bore you, and just so you know this is a very "amateur" trip report. TR: So last night me, my nephew and 2 of my brothers decided to go to HHN last minute. Got there bout 6:30, bought tickets and actually got into the park bought 6:40 (early, cool) Let me first say that I read some reviews about last years event, but didn't really want to know too much cause I wanted to go with a fresh perspective and be surprised (which I was). I read Robbs interview with John Murdy the night before which got me a bit hyped about it. HOUSE OF HORRORS (7/10): Our first maze cause it was close to the entrance and had a short line. Themed to old school horror movies like Frankenstein, Dracula, etc...Good maze with nice sets, I'm a fan of all those old horror movies so I liked this one alot. I didn't think it had as many actors as the other mazes, but it was still good. Focused more on big elaborate sets rather than scares I think. TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (10/10): Second maze and I think by far the best. Great sets and actors who were really into it. This was located in the lower lot and we got there pretty early so we pretty much were in the maze by ourselves which made it that much scarier. Bathroom scene was great, even smelled like...bathroom. Did a couple of walk-ons for mummy (first time, very cool ride) and went to the upper lot. TERROR TRAM (8/10): Did this next and expected long lines but to my surprise they did not exceed 5 minutes for like, the whole night. I thought this was going to be like another scare zone, but was more like another maze in my opinion. Cool sets, loved the bates motel and norman bates at the psycho house was creepy yet cool. The war of the worlds set was great cause it was just so massive. Seemed like they had alot of things here to lead your eye away so the actors could scare you from somewhere else. This was good but I rated higher cause it was just so cool to walk on the backlot. NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (8/10): This maze was good with some unique elements. Based on Freddy so it had more of the grotesque things in it. Carriage scene amongst others were just freaky. FRIDAY THE 13th (9/10): Cool maze with great sets. Especially the sets where it's forest-like and makes you feel like your outside(even smelled like pine). The scene with the VW bug was great. This maze seemed to have the most continuity which I liked alot. For instance, first it was Jason's mom after you. Then Jason like he looked at the end of part one for the next few rooms, and eventually him with the hockey mask at the end. Saw the Bill and Ted show was okay but not my thing (not into the singing & dancing so much). I prefer the Hanging at knott's, but that's just me. Did the Chucky insult emporium which was funny but VERY adult. ---So overall we had an absolutely great time at HHN. The scare zones were very good and they covered more area than I thought they would. The scare actors were GREAT though, really into it from what I saw. The mazes were cool because they weren't just a "theme" like knott's. It was more like you were walking through the best parts of the actual movies, following the plot in a way. I also really like how the main characters of the maze were in it multiple times rather than just at one point. I've been a big scary farm fan for a while and I do understand it when people say, "scary farm is more quantity, and HHN is more quality". As for me though, I wouldn't say HHN is better, just...different. But that's just my opinion. Included a few pictures below which I took, but it was hard cause of the lighting/fog so they're not so good. Enjoy. Entrance to Jason Maze Entrance to Freddy Maze Chucky scene from inside House of Horror maze London themed scare zone which was my favorite
Groteslurf Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Why don't we have a Universal park in Europe I would love to enter mazes with Jason, Freddy, Chucky, ... Loved to read your TR ! Gave me a very good idea what can be expected at HHN.
