I am frequently on this site and screamscape.com and they seem to think that knott's is getting a pony express themed booster bike ride or even a ride like maveric.

2008 / 2009 - Ghost Town / Wilderness Redevelopment / Mystery Lodge

removal / New Coaster - Rumor - (9/3/07) A reader has sent in a few more shots of the Ghost Town construction site as they are pouring new pathways around the old Ranger Station building.

(8/20/07) Today we’ve got a few interesting photos from Knott’s Berry Farm to share, sent in by a reader. We got a new look at the Ranger Station in Ghost Town, a look into the behind the scenes area between here and GhostRider where the steel structure for a new building is going up. Meanwhile the old shooting gallery across from the Timber Mountain Log Ride was closed and is being gutted to make way for a rumored new Panda Express.

(8/17/07) New construction photos from Knott’s Berry Farm have been posted to Theme Park Village showing off the Ghost Town project as well as a few haunt construction photos.

(8/14/07) We’ve got two new photos from Knott’s showing off the newly relocated Ranger Station building on it’s new foundation in Ghost Town.

(8/13/07) I haven’t seen a photo yet, but from the sound of things the park has moved the Ranger Station building over to the new foundation in Ghost Town.

(8/10/07) The latest development from Knott’s Berry Farm claims that the open spot in Ghost Town may have been done to make a new home for a few of the park’s other attractions, possibly the Wilderness Scrambler and the Ranger Station. The thought is that then they might remove the Bigfoot Broiler and Mystery Lodge to open up another space for the rumored Pony Express project. (And they would have gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for those darn kids...)

(8/7/07) A new photo update from Knott’s Berry Farm was added to Westcoaster this week showing off the foundation for something small inside the Ghost Town clearing, Perilous Plunge up and running once again, the still closed Timber Mountain Log Ride, and some early Halloween Haunt construction in progress.

(7/25/07) All eyes are on Ghost Town these days, waiting to see just might pop up for next season and I think we may have the answer. Taking a page from this year’s successful new Sierra Sidewinder, the park may opt to add another great family attraction like this in 2008. The kicker here is that this may be a throwback to a once popular but lost Knott’s Berry Farm attraction… the Great Soap Box Derby. If the latest rumors are true, a new Ghost Town horse themed steeplechase style coaster may be in development under the name “The Pony Express”. The project may extend from the Ghost Town site running towards the Bigfoot Rapids and Mystery Lodge area and back. Though keeping an eye on capacity, I’ve got to wonder if this could really be a horse themed version of the Vekoma Booster Bike coaster. Anyone know more?

(7/4/07) Ground clearing has begin in Knott’s Berry Farm’s Ghost Town area where bulldozers have leveled the area along the train tracks between the old graveyard and Dance Hall building, removing whatever building was there in between, the old wooden bridge access from the back of the cemetery to the back of the Dance Hall area as well as all the large trees that were also here. It’s a real interesting location too… still surrounded by other buildings, but close to the Mystery Lodge area where survey markers have been spotted and there has been speculation of a major project going in for years.

(6/18/07) Screamscape sources tell us that while Bigfoot Rapids isn’t going anywhere… we will see significant changes to the entire area around it in the not too distant future.

(6/6/07) More survey markings have been added to the path outside Mystery Lodge this week. You can see them in photos posted to Coaster Realm. Makes me wonder how much time Mystery Lodge may have left.

(5/18/07) It could be nothing or it could be a sign of the park’s next big project, but WestCoaster did come upon several markings on the ground in the Bigfoot Rapids area.

(2/16/07) It's been awhile since I’ve heard anything more about redeveloping the Wilderness area of the park, but when a reader mentioned the idea once again, everything suddenly clicked together for me.

For starts, forget about how Kingdom of the Dinosaurs may or may not fit in as a new coaster station. My thought process is this... what if Knott’s were to get the next Maverick style coaster going into Cedar Point in 2007? Lets say you remove the Wilderness Lodge to create some extra space but imagine a similar coaster to Maverick over the top of the Bigfoot Rapids? They may have to modify Bigfoot in the process, but they could use the great themeing and water elements of Bigfoot Rapids as a base to put down even more themed elements for a new coaster. Then more low to the ground and semi “family friendly” style design of Maverick would fit in perfect with Knott’s, and provide the park with a new looping coaster, one with a beyond vertical first drop, and the park’s first with a magnetic launch as well. Anyone else heard any rumors that may fit this possible plan or am I just dreaming?

(10/19/06) The rumors have been trickling in over the past month that not only may Mystery Lodge be on the way out but Bigfoot Rapids as well. The two attractions pretty much define the entire south end of Knott’s and make up an entire region by themselves. Why the sudden interest in demolishing a major section of the park? It’s easier to understand if you take a look at the overhead photos of the park area and of the south side in general. Knott’s has already expanded to the streets around it on three of it’s four sides... with only the south side reserved for it’s warehouses and employee only areas as well as it’s hotel and overflow parking lots.

If the park ever wants to expand to become bigger then the only place they can move is to the South. Of course not only would they have to demolish Mystery Lodge and Bigfoot rapids in the process but also their own backstage buildings that would have to be relocated elsewhere. Obviously this is a costly process that could take years to complete, but they did undertake a similar action back when they created GhostRider. Of course these are only rumors at this point and a good bit of speculation on my part but from a business point of view, it’s really the only way Knott’s can expand and they have bought up a fair amount of property in the surrounding areas around the park over the years that could serve as good locations for new warehouses and office buildings.

(10/9/06) Has the Owl of death come to look upon Knott’s Mystery Lodge attraction? We’ve heard a rumor this week that indicated that there was talk about replacing it with a new project. Of course there are enough people out there that don’t care for the slower pace and storytelling nature of the Mystery Lodge that would love to see it removed anyway, so rumors about it’s destruction have to be taken with a grain of salt.
