Joyland... The Texas Version...

Recommended Posts

Next year I'll be leaving the sunny skies of Southern California and moving out to (well I guess they're also sunny) Lubbock, Texas. Amongst the many changes in front of me, is my home town park will be changing. So my question is, has anyone actually been to Joyland in Lubbock, Tx? The only ride i know about there is Greezed Lightnin' (which I guess is still nowhere near opening). Anybody else been there and can give me an idea if it is worth peeling myself away from the books (going there for law school, if any of you are wondering who the hell moves to Lubbock) to go visit?

I'm wondering when Greezed Lightnin' will actually open out there. I was there a few weeks ago and we drove by the area where the park is, and I didn't notice any signs of verticle construction. As far as I can tell that would make logical sense since there appearently isn't any signs of ground work either yet. All I know about the park otherwise however is what I got from RCDB.

Well I think they have poured the footers so far. If they spent all that money refurbishing it and everything, why would they not build it?

They're going to build a spaceship out of it, of course.

The park's websitehas loads of information about it. Looks like they're securing concrete-and-steel bids.

I've been there a couple of times and I think it's worth a try. It's a small, but enjoyable park. Their coasters are rough, but I thought the flats were enjoyable. With the addition of Greezed Lightnin' you should definitely go, because I thought it was the best coaster at SFAW. Hopefully, it will still run as great as it did when I rode it several years ago.

Southern Califnornia to Lubbock?

Southern Califnornia to Lubbock?

I get asked that question a lot!

I'm sure that at some point I will end up giving the park a try. It's a long drive from there to any of the Six Flags parks, which does upset me a bit.

Both Joyland and Wonderland are fun parks. No, they are not big theme parks with big rides, but they are family owned and operated...and the people that run them love what they do and the owner of Joyland is sort of a coaster nut himself. I've been to both parks a few times now and have a really good time everytime I go.

It is taking Joyland longer than they thought it would to get Greezed Lightnin' up. The picnic area has been relocated and part of a playground (Joyland is located in a park) has been moved out of the way by the city. This ride is like nothing this park has ever done before, but be assured that they will get the ride built and opened as soon as they are able to.
