LingLing13
Hi I'm planning to visit Washington DC in April and was wondering: How long will it take to drive to PKD? And will it be busy round April time? Just one more question What rides should I do first in the morning and throughout the day? Thanx
BarryH
I went to Carowinds on an April on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy. The longest wait was an hour for Borg Assimilator, but that was because it broke down. The waits for the other rides were around 5-10 minutes. I drove from Washington DC to PKD once and I believe it took me a bit over 3 hours.
rocketmark
Hi I'm planning to visit Washington DC in April and was wondering: How long will it take to drive to PKD? And will it be busy round April time? Just one more question What rides should I do first in the morning and throughout the day? Thanx PKD is about 1 1/2 hours south of DC. If you're leaving from downtown, and not one of the suburbs, add another 15/20 minutes to get to the highway.
carolinacaniac
As others above said, you are probably looking at about a 1.5-2 hour drive to get to KD. If you go on a Sunday in April, Lines could be nonexistant. A friend of mine and I went last year on a sunday in May and the only time we had to wait to ride was because of a big thunderstorm that came through, but there isn't anything that they can do about that. If it turns out that it is looking to be busier than you hoped/thought, I would say that the rides that will have the longer lines are going to be Volcano, HyperSonic (may be the last chance to ride since it is on the selling block), Flight of Fear and possibly Italian Job. Everything else should either have little or no wait, especially on a sunday. If Cedar Fair does the same thing that Paramount Parks did, then all three wooden coasters will have one train operation. But they should still have only a short wait. Drop Zone may also only have half of the seats loading at a time, but the wait should also not be too bad. All Clear
The week of April 9-13, they'll be open weekdays (for spring break) from 10:30 to 6. This has always been my favorite week to go because it's typically not very busy at all, plus everything is sort of clean and fresh. Driving from DC depends heavily on time of day on weekdays. If you leave DC at 9AM, you could easily be at PKD by 11AM. If you leave DC at 7AM, you might not make it to PKD until 11AM anyway. Depending on what part of DC you're leaving from, it could be beneficial to use 301 instead of 95. It's a little less likely to be a parking lot. rileybrands
Although I haven't actually been on I-95, I have a sister that lives in Washington, D.C. that uses it quite often. Like it's already been mentioned, the drive time can REALLY vary. Just keep this in mind: the stretch of I-95 from Washington, D.C. to Richmond is HORRIBLE! They are always doing some kind of construction on that road! Who knows when they'll be done? So, like has already been mentioned, maybe you can take some alternative roads instead, but you don't want those alternative roads to take you longer than I-95!
