Angry_Gumball Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 I'm sure a few of you remember a while back when I mentioned about my RCT main CD having a hairline crack and the discussion about exploding CDs on mythbusters. Well, tonight, I busted the myth myself. Having a new Sony/NEC Optiarc DVD-R/RW drive that could read some really screwed up stuff, I decided to give my RCT a second try...sure enough it read. I figured I'll use Nero and make a dup of it and just ditch the original CD. Well, the copy failed and as you know, Nero spits the disc back out. I pushed it back in to see if I can copy/paste the files on to the computer and suddenly I hear "Buzz Buzz.....POP! Rattle-rattle...." Well, I'll let you figure out what happened. I had to disect the drive, remove the thousands of shards and hope to god it worked again. (which it does, no damages luckily). Well, I'll let the pictures tell you the rest. Now, time to end it with what's left of my CD...Rest in peices! Mythbusters: The experience! Just put in a cracked DVD/CD and see for your self! Bits n peices... Close up of the innards before I shake out all the shards. Innards part 1 The NEC drive
Sean Menefee Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 My external LG DVD drive did the EXACT same thing to my RCT2 disc. Makes me laugh because I've never see anything like that before, even doing tech work for a few years. It broke the drive tray in two pieces, and pretty much destroyed everything inside. Glad to see I'm not the only one who has lost a drive this way, I feel a bit better now.
crazyrider06 Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Damn, I bet you will never do that again will ya lol
