Gnome
I was curious if you buy a license to use the songs that you have featured on your DVD, and if that's the case how do you go about getting it cleared. If that is not the case, though, is there anything you do to protect yourself from the likes of the RIAA?
Blue0ctane
Getting the rights to the song would be far too much of a hassle, not to mention WAY out of Robb and Elissa's budget. I don't know anything about copyright and license laws, but I'd guess that licensing is not required because the DVD is not being sold publically (i.e. in stores). Oh, I'm back. ParkTrips
I think they are protected under the "documentary" status
imbordisux
I have absolutely no knowledge of this subject, but I'm willing to take a stab at it: If R&E aren't using the music as a selling-point of the DVDs (i.e., there is no mention of the music on the packaging, or anything that says "If you like this song, buy the DVD!"), they're pretty safe. All that's being sold and marketed is the footage. I mean, I'm sure some group with some lawyer could go after them if they really wanted to, but it's such a relatively small operation, there's not much they could gain from it. WillMontu
Also, a lot of the music videos have extra sound mixed in such as voices, etc. I believe there's some sort of Fair Use rational in there somewhere.
