I want to convert my 8mm home movies to my computer so I can burn them onto a DVD and eventually edit them down and do some retro-videos from Disneyland, Knott's (when it was good), etc.

Is there any easy way to do this???

Thanks.

There are companies that will do the transfer for you. Check out your local area to see if there are any near you. If you don't mind the shipping fees you could use this website: http://www.moviestuff.tv/transfers.html

I haven't used them, so don't take this as a testimonial, the only reason why I recommend them is that if you are as paranoid with letting other people handle your old home movies as I am, this site also sells their transfer equipment which means you can do it at home. It's expensive, but if you have the dough their equipment is probably the cheapest you will find anywhere, they make it to order so it might take a while, especially now with the Christmas rush going on. You could also try an eBay search of 8mm telecine equipment.

Wow, that's not cheap. Plus it says that all transfers are silent. Doesn't work for me.

And by 8mm I don't mean the old school stuff. I mean an 8mm camcorder that was from the mid-90's. They are already on a tape, I just want them digital.

I will look in my area to see if there is anything.

Thanks.

Do you still have the camera? Or can you borrow one from someone?

The easiest way would be to borrow the 8MM camera, and then just copy them over to your DV camera (assuming your DV camera has video input)

The other option would be to puchase something like a "Dazzle" to import them into your computer. We just picked one up at Best Buy for doing video game captures at work....they run about $150.

Still have the camera, and surprisingly enough it still works!!!

Neither of our DV Cameras have AV inputs. Only USB, Firewire and AV out.

I guess I'll have to look into that other thing.

Thanks.

I've got the Dazzle thingymabob. It works well. The software that came with it....not so much. You can find the thingymabob seperately and use Windows Movie Maker it you're looking to go cheap. Beware, you'll need a lot of HD space if you want to import the video at the highest quality.

You can PM me if you need more info. I'm doing work off of VCR and my trusty Hi8 camera.
