Labor Day Weekend Crowds

Recommended Posts

Ive never travelled to a park on a major holiday weekend, but I'm flying to Illinois today to visit my sister who just moved there. I was planning to take them to SFGAm either Saturday or Sunday.

I've been to the park about 5 times since 99, in the middle of summer, and the crowds are usually pretty large (1.5-2h for Raging Bull if I recall) What kind of crowds usually come out to SFGAm or any theme park for that matter on Labor Day weekend? Is it going to be packed, or are most families in a "back to school" mode and crowds will be similar to a typical fall weeked?

I'd appreciate any tips from folks who have been to parks on Labor Day weekends in the past. Is Sunday significantly slower than Saturday? SFGAm's hours are shorter on Sunday, and there is a 40% chance of thunderstorms as well, but it may blow over.

Sorry can't help. In all the years I've been going, I've never been during Labor Day weekend. The weather is supposed to be decent tomorrow and possible showers Sunday and Monday. My buddy went last week and said the park was pretty empty now that everyone's back in school, at least the public schools are. This might be they're last summer hoorah though....

My guess, less than average crowds.

That will be worth it.

The Cubs are in town, it will be crowded in Wrigleyville. Gametimes are usually 1:20, it will be nuts most of the afternoon and evening. Check their schedule. On the otherhand, you can party with the morons (like myself) that still cheer the team on.

If you're talking Metra, I'm not sure. I've never riden the line up to Gurnee so, I'm not sure how close the station is in relation to SFGam. It does stop at Clybourn, which would be the closest to Goose Island but, not particularly convenient. You'd have to cab it the rest of the way (maybe a ten minute ride?). Weekend passes are $5 on Metra, unlimited rides, it's a good deal.

Check out Metra for maps and details.

You can PM me, I'll be around most of tomorrow.
