crispy Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Well, again we were off, after last year getting to meet the Alvey's at SFMM, and then die as the temepature reached a minimum of 14 million degrees We were determined not to die from the heat at another park, where to go, Santa Cruz of course I guess it helps that most of Corina's family is there and all of my family We took off at 5:30AM and arrived around 2 AM, striaght trip, long, very very long The first real thing we did after running around saying "HI" to everyone is go with Corina's father to the Watsonville Strawberry Festival. The funning thing is, there was very little "strawberry" about the Strawberry festival, it seemed the Strawberry park was an afterthough, go to the Gilroy Garlic festival EVERYTHING is about garlic, there were about three stands selling strawberry related stuff After grandpa bought the kids enough sugar to power a small country for three years, we headed over to the ride area and bought a few tickets Mickey rode most of the rides, including a kiddie coaster that no adult was allowed to get on, Corina and I rode some horrible contraption called Zendor Two days later we hit up the Boardwalk, not having Mickey(she was visiting other family) we had a rather short trip, but thank GOD I got to ride the Giant Dipper The Giant Dipper is still alot of fun, and it is really REALLY smooth, makes you wonder what the hell these corporate parks are doing to thier coasters, ho can a 80+ year old coaster be one of the smoothest in the country, oh wait thats right, its called caring and maintaning your rides BTW, as I get home I realize I did not take one picture of the Giant Dipper, as I coaster geek, I am horrible offended, at myself, damn distacting family and fun, next time thier staying home Anyway, we had alot of fun, and I have to say, California is a HORRIBLE lace to live, but a fantastic place to visit for vacation We arrived back in Albuquerque at 4am, only to discover out house had been broken into. All the video game and small electronics were taken, we no longer own and home game system, oh wait they left my Atari Jaguar They also took my studio microphone, which is a bit of a blow, but thankfully they left all the jewlery, and the expensive stuff, like my guitars, and my V-Drums, not a fun way to end a trip ON TO THE CRAPPY PICS This is where my Xbox,Dreamcast,Sega nomad, and a few other systems USED to reside Yeah, that fingerprinting stuff the cops use, can stain a carpet, just so you know If you had to choose, would it be "Real Road" or the "So Real Road"? Mickey, and paper towels With all the crap our families gave us, we were packed in real tight for the trip home he enjoyed the taffy making STOP HIM, HE'S ESCAPING, yeah, not enough excitment for him I suppose Next we went on the Merry Go Round with the baby *THIS PHOTO IS TAKEN FROM THIS SITE, TPR, WHICH STADS FOR THEME PARK REVIEW*, Embarrasingly enough, I did not take one picture of the Giant Dipper, LET THE NAME CALLING BEGIN!!!! YIPEE, the boardwalk WEEEE Slides This is the contraption the Me and Corina Rode, it made the girl next to us cry Ah yes, she likes the coaster Mickey gets on the coaster Pretty popular place and the 30% that made it in my mouth is DAMN GOOD Grandpa gave me a soda Ahh Strawberrys means strawberry festival At My moms house, a belated party for Stephan, andMickey, oh, look who the party princess is I think he's ready to get back on the road Well what do you know, little baby is WALKING
Sean Menefee Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Glad to see you made it back up to SCBB, (as I recall you were a local right?) Last time we went down about a month ago the place was packed beyond belief. The nice thing is the boardwalk is great place to people watch and just take in all the amazing scenery, the rides are just icing on the cake. Your kid is adorable as always, and glad to see he got to experience the little things that make SCBB so great. (was it his first trip?) Did you end up getting on many rides Crispy? Great trip report, thanks as always. Sean-
crispy Posted August 22, 2006 Author Posted August 22, 2006 Yup, I lived in Santa Cruz all my life, we arrived at noon on Thursday, and left at 5PM. when the all day passes went to half price. I did ride a few rides, but the only one I really cared about was the Dipper, and It didn't dissapoint. Its actually an intresting contrast to the New Mexico Rattler, which is more intense than the Dipper in every way, but both are great fun This is the baby's first time, and he really enjoyed himself, there is a reason the Boardwalk is so popular, because its good
ebl Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I was going to take my daughter up north to Santa Cruz and the Winchester Mystery House, but the summer got away from us. I suppose we can still go, as the Mystery House is open all year and I think the Boardwalk is open on weekends. Nice TR by the way. It's cool when the young 'uns start walking! Eric
