  1. I think this may be the link here. http://stlouis.bizjournals.com/stlouis/prnewswire/press_releases/Missouri/2008/06/19/NYTH048
  2. Robb - Great pictures and what an amazing video. You really have to have ridden this beast to appreciate the quality of that video, great work as always. Rich
  3. The photo's look great Robb, thanks for posting some that quick. Jakizle - I was there with my younger brother (we were both in TPR shirts). I'm the short fat one and he's the tall skinny one.
  4. Had a great time this morning, thanks to Robb, Elissa and everyone who attended for making it such an enjoyable time. I didn't bring my camera in until after we finished riding but here's a few quick shots I took afterwards. Took a shot of the 1st drop right as we were leaving. Was amazed to see a couple of familiar faces in the front row. You two are crazy - 15 trips was enough abuse for me. A few members of our group chatting right after we finished riding. Here's an aerial view of the coaster, taken from the observation tower. As you can see it was a great day for filming.
  5. After a long week of unloading boxes and going to job interviews it's time for a beer. Saw a new double IPA @ Spec's that I had to try and tonight seemed like a good night. (Picked up an Arrogant Bastard Ale as well but I'll save that for when I accept a job offer.) Breckenridge Brewery's Small Batch 471 Double Hopped IPA, coming in at 9.2% abv. What a hop bomb this thing is. It does balance out a little bit after it warms up but this is definately a hop head's brew. It does mask it's alcohol very well, almost to the point that it makes it a dangerous beer. Easily the biggest and best beer I've had yet and I will definately pick up more of these. Best thing about a bomber - the 2nd serving
  6. I thought everyone would get a kick out of the name, no rodents on the label though. It's actually named after a ship, here's the info from the website: Debuted March 2004. We had wanted to brew an IPA for several years, but our water was too high in calcium carbonate which tends to impart a harsh bitter to such beers. It was not until we installed our reverse osmosis system that we could do so. Reverse osmosis takes the water coming into the brewery with about 300-500 ppm dissolved solids and strips it down to about 5 ppm. We then can add back only the minerals that we want. This way, we can recreate the brewing water of anyplace in the world. Actually the RO system improved all of our beers. And lets us brew a delicious, hoppy IPA! This beer is named after ELISSA, a tall ship now moored in Galveston. Ships like ELISSA were used in transporting IPAs to India. Saint Arnold Brewing Company donates a portion of the proceeds of this beer to the Galveston Historical District for preservation of this ship. It's a very good IPA though be sure to try it if you see it. I'm very happy with the brews available here, they have alot more to choose from then they did in FL and there's alot of breweries in the state. Nothing like Cal or the northeast but alot more then FL.
  7. Well I finally made it over to Spec's today, they had a lot stuff I haven't seen before. I decided to start local though as it's always important to support the local brewers. They were out of Live Oak Hefe-Weisen which is something I really wanted to try. My disappointment went away quickly though when I saw that Saint Arnold brewed an IPA. Saint Arnold's Elissa IPA - This a great IPA, very hoppy upfront but then a good malt pressence to balance it out. Very impressed and since it's local, it'll be a staple in my fridge.
  8. Well it's been a little while since I posted in here but if you look over to the left you'll notice a new location, as I've moved to Houston. I haven't had a chance to make it over to Speck's (the local place for micro's) yet but I did find something that wasn't available in Florida at the local grocery store. Something I've been wanting to try that everyone in this thread is very familiar with. Victory's Hop Devil. What a great IPA. Finishing the last of a sixer now and will definately pick up another tommorow.
  9. Democrat - I'd vote for Mickey Mouse before I'd ever vote republican.
  10. Last night I decided to revisit my favorite beer that I've tried so far. Tonight it's all about college football and some DFH. College football and good beer, What more can you ask for on a Thursday night? Tonight in honor of a 60 minute game, DFH's 60 Minute IPA. Last Night - Stoudts Double IPA - My personal favorite.
  11. Time to try some new IPA's. Tonight one from the east coast and one from the west coast. Next up was Loast Coast's Indica IPA. A more balanced IPA as seems to be the style on the west coast. This was much better then the Avery IPA's I tried. The malts balanced the beer rather than overpowering the hops and I really like that it's unfiltered. I still prefer the east coast IPA's from what I've tried so far. They seem to be hoppier and personally that's why I reach for an IPA. First up, Harpoon's Ipa. An east coast style IPA. I thought this was great, very similar to DFH's 60 Minute.
  12. Someone important said beer is proof God loves us (see Heath's sig), I'm starting to think beer is God's way of helping us get through mondays. Next I had a Long Hammer IPA from Red Hook. This one was a disapointment, way to light and even a watered down taste. This would be a week Pale ale much less an IPA. Started tonight with my 1st offering from Rogue, Dead Guy Ale. A nice hoppy twist on an amber ale, it was very good. Only negative is that I only bought one, I'll have to fix that.
  13. Tonights brew is in honor of Steve Harrison, God bless his family in their time of need. The beer that helped me and so many others open their eyes to craft beers.
  14. Decided to try something different tonight, Dogfish Head's Aprihop. I really enjoyed this, it still had nice hops to go with apricot flavor. I'll have to pick up a 4 pack of this before it sells out. I really want to check out the Festina Peche now as well.
  15. Time to try another Double IPA, Avery's Maharaja. The malts really over-powered it once it warmed up, almost to the point that is was way to sweet. I really enjoyed their stouts but I think I'll Pass on Avery's IPA offerings. This one threw me a bit, it seems way to malty to be a DIPA. I know some are more balanced then others but it was tough to taste the hops and thats not what I expect from this style. Having said that, I thought it was very good, just not what I expected.
  16. What a scorcher here in S. Florida today. Next up, Jackman's APA from Left Hand Brewing Company. I graduated from Longmont High School so I figured it was time to give this brewery a try. This was a decent Pale Ale - nothing great but enjoyable. Hot day at work = A good Hefe-Weizen when I get home. Ayinger's Brau-Weisse is a little lighter than I prefer but I really like the spices in this one.
  17. Blues Guess I'm surprised / disappointed it took 10 pages for it to be mentioned.
  18. Well unfortunately Big Bear Brewing Co was closed to the public saturday night for a wedding reception for one of their employees. Fortunately their brewer Matt brought my brother and I a Hibernation Pale Ale to enjoy in their outside seating area since he had to return home sunday morning. He invited me back next weekend to try their new IPA and said the 1st one's on him, so you know I'll take him up on that. I'll be sure to take some photo's while I'm there as well as the place looked really nice. The Hibernation PA was very good, little on the mild side hop wise which is to be expected here in S Fla, reminded me of Anchor's Liberty Ale. While the Holy Mackerel was very good, it did leave me craving a swift hop kick. DFH's 60 Minute to the rescue, it never dissapoints and @ $6.99 a sixer it something my wallet and taste buds can agree on. Started tonight with something local, Florida Beer Company's Holy Mackerel. This is a Belgian Strong Ale coming in at 8.5% ABV. Based on other sampes from this brewery I wasn't expecting much, consider me pleasantly surprised. This is the best beer I've tried that was brewed in FL. It smells great, hints of spice and then banana bread. The taste was even better, classic strong pale ale with a spicey twist. If you see this give it a try, way better then expected from a Florida brewery.
  19. I made a stop by Total Wine today, I was really looking to find some new DIPA's and was frustrated when the Stoudts and DFH that I've already tried was all I could find. Then I noticed the bomber section - score. First thing I saw in the bomber section, Great Divide's Hercules Double IPA. If your beer was missing some hops tonight, it's cause this one stole it. I like, lucky for me I got a 2nd round. Round 2 - This only got better as it warmed up. The malts finally showed up to provide a nice balance. Either that or my palate was so screwed up it was getting used to the hops. Definately one of the best DIPA I've tried so far, this will be a regular in my fridge.
  20. Tonights theme is all about Colorado, home of some fantastic breweries. Next up, brewed in the shadows of Lookout Mountain, Boulder Beer Company's Mojo Ipa. Another good IPA, a little milder on the hop side. Not as good as the Titan IMO but still a good beer. First up, Denver - The Mile High City. Great Divide Brewing Company's Titan IPA. Another awesome IPA, very hoppy upfront and then it settles to a nice balanced beer.
