  1. I don't get it... Why are there Cypress Gardens fanboys and what's so special about this park that some defend it so fierce? To me it just looks like a not-so-special park...

History my friend, history. It was the first theme park in Florida. It has the most renowned ski show in the world. It has one of only three Intamin flying islands in the world. It had one of the most awesome natural sights in the Banyan Tree and the botanical gardens are unmatched. It has a beautiful butterfly house. It has a nice little zoo area. The bird aviary is one of my favorite places to visit! It has a nice paddle boat dinner cruise. It has a really cool train set. It has a beautiful topiary garden. It has a nice little water park that is part of the general admission. It has a large number of kids rides. There are a lot of family shows there, and they also have two or three small thrill rides.

But the thrill ride crowd is not who they are marketing to. Which is one reason I think so many people here don't like it.

  2. Elissa, I already know you hate CG, you've said so in other posts. And I think one reason is because you think it's taking $$ from Wild Adventures. Weather that's true or not, it's pretty sorry of you and/or others on the board to wish CG to fail. Shoot, in your original trip report you & Rob talked how you expected it to fail and you'd get to see the Disc-O at WA!

Good thing it's still connected to the trailer so when this park fails, they can just roll it on down to Wild Adventures!

I'm realistic about the park. And it's doing better than it ever has. It's too bad there are so many haters out there. But hey, if you don't like it don't go.

  3. As cute as I thought this park was, It suffers from two major problems. It is way off the beaten track. Even with the Starliner, it will have no signature attraction. It realy needs something to make people want to drive 80+ miles out of their way to visit.

Huh? CG is only about 35-40 miles from Disney. (Although Google should send people down 27 instead of going through Lake Alfred...) And it's in between Disney and Busch Gardens. I travel that route all time and it takes about 45 minutes.

If you're already traveling 400 or more miles to visit the mouse, it's not that long a drive to visit Florida's first theme park.

  4. Sorry haters! CG is going to come out of Chapter 11 soon... (I don't understand why you people WANT to see it fail...)

Buescher said the park should overcome its bankruptcy status by early summer.

Anyway, what's this "4-story" building for the kids supposed to be (mentioned in the Orlando Sentinel story)? Shoot, there aren't many 4 story buildings in all of Winter Haven! I'm guessing it's some kind of open air play structure.

  5. GO CARDINALS! Wow, last night's game was pretty amazing...I'd say we win in 5. We've got Carpenter, Weaver, and Suppan up head plus Rolen is hitting again! Great year for the Cardinals to be in the WS again because of the new stadium.

I think it'd be awesome to have a new stadium and a new Championship in the same year!

    Go Cardinals!!

  6. Nothing like bringing back old threads from the dead.

    Polk County success story

    Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Cypress Gardens Adventure Park in Polk County says it seeing a major jump in attendance, and the park believes a water park it opened late last summer is the reason.

Cypress Gardens has made it past the initial enthusiasm of its reopening about 18 months ago, and park attendance is up by 20 percent over the same time last year.

Local tourism officials say their research shows the tens of millions the park has spent on thrill rides and the water park, called Splash Island, have been a good investment and should continue to be so in the future. The park is thinking about expanding the water park, but it has set a date for that yet.

Cypress Gardens says it had more than 1.5 million visitors last year and it expects to easily exceed that this year.

  7. ^^ Spacey was awesome... Routh... well... Just didn't hit it out of the park for me. He wasn't the confident Superman than Reeve was. Hopefully he'll get better when he's teaching... oops. Better not reveal any spoilers (although it's the worst kept secret since the end of Titanic.)

  8. It's funny to see these lists. It's supposed to be the best games of "all-time" not necessarily your "favorite" ones of the last 10 years. Video games have been around since the ~50's, so they're should be some games on everyone's list that were created before 1990.

Just like if someone created a "Best Movies of All-Time" there should be more than just movies that were made since 1990, even if you haven't seen them. I would expect to see "Casablanca," "Citizen Kane," "The Godfather," "Wizard of Oz," etc. on everyone's list.

    Oh well... :-/
