  1. ^Except there are footers off to the side, like I've been saying all along. Roll or not, this is all part of a large sweeping turn. I will say though, the track coming up out of the drop is oddly steep in pitch already, but I'm still withholding doubt that it will do a roll until we see the track in place... which may happen as early as next weekend. I just hope the new trains from RMC are comfortable enough...
  2. ^August 9 is the day of the announcement. This ride won't open till 2013. Shield the children's eyes, it's time for a crappy fanboy MS Paint sketch of the layout so far, created in less than five mins: http://i.imgur.com/UBdAK.jpg The square thing is the station. So then lift and drop, crazy overbank turn that continues to dive and turn until it crosses over somewhere near the base of the drop, then it goes somewhere we can't see where there might be a tunnel taking shape or something else. It didn't look like there was much clearing back there, so I don't think it goes very far into the woods. Then it comes back up the valley over the base of the drop again, and then it turns and passes under the lift hill. Then it dives down into another valley where you can't see it because of all the trees, and then it curves back around and out of the valley into the station. So the big question right now is what will happen after the big turn that is under construction now. We'll see if that tunnel exists after all, or if there's going to be an airtime hill, or what. I personally think it's going to do a small hop over the base of the drop, then do some kind of quick upwards turnaround to come back. I don't think it can go very far and still have enough momentum to get back to the station. I doubt this thing will have an MCBR. It's not a terribly long layout, but it is certainly shaping up to make the most of every inch.
  3. It's definately not a zero-g roll. This is right after the drop, and the course goes up into a 270-degree turn of some sort. It looks like the first 180 degrees is an overbank, and the last 90 extends the dive into the valley back towards the base of the drop. It looks funky, but I can't imagine it doing a roll here simply because of the layout. Now it could do an inverted overbank - I've been expecting it to be extremely pitched at the very least, but the supports are so funky it will be difficult to tell what's going on until track is actually in place.
  4. The teaser campaign has started: http://www.silverdollarcity2013.com
  5. Don't forget the Tulsa State Fair Board. Fair Boards and amusement parks just don't mix anymore. Sad since it's such a win-win when things are actually done right. They've thrown millions in annual tax earnings down the drain from this poor management. Shame no one is paying attention.
  6. ^There actually might be bathrooms included somewhere as well. There's definately a little addition to the side of the station that will probably have a gift shop in it, maybe bathrooms as well. They could use some in this area of the park. That video shows they were quick to add more track to the drop on Monday. By now it might be fully tracked. I'm wondering if we'll see any photos this weekend of the crazy post-drop curve going up. I think it's going to be one of those beyond-overbanks like NTAG has.
  7. I feel like no one can really appreciate the drop from the photos I posted no matter how impressive the backside looks. It really did make my jaw drop when I rode PK and saw it for the fist time from a good angle. From the top of PK's lift, you can only see the top half, and it looks almost completely vertical as it goes behind the trees. I mean, it's slightly taller and steeper than this thing: http://rcdb.com/3938.htm?p=21328 Some other notes I have from my visit (maybe I'll finally get around to posting my PTR tomorrow): Season pass holders can get in an hour early during a few weeks from May to June. I wish I had remembered this in time rather than sitting around the square all morning. The Flying Wallendas were pretty interesting. The opening acts were a little strange, but entertaining. The Wallenda stunts themselves were pretty impressive. The Luma light show as just plain strange, and not really worth the time unless you're really into that sort of thing. The Saloon show is still the best show in the park during the summer. It might be corny, but it still makes me laugh every time. Definitely a lot of new thematic signage around, and it looks like they're putting more effort into it this time. Some of the new stuff blended right in with the old, which is great in this case.
  8. Too late, I've got a few photos to share. I'm too tired to post very many right now, but there are more here: http://sdcfans.com/photos/feat/23/ Got a PTR to share tomorrow too. Pretty awesome weekend at the city. By the way, they aren't trying to ignore or hide the construction at all. If you ride the train they talk about the ride a lot actually, but they don't state the name or any details and just say that it is for next year and that an announcement will come in the fall. So basically the lift hill is completely tracked at this point, it just needs the handrails added to the sides. The drop is only tracked on one side so far. After the drop there is a bit where it lifts out of the valley and goes into what looks like an extreme overbanked turnaround/bowl thing that goes 270 degrees back around and over the base of the drop again. It disappears into the woods after that, but apparently the track will come back towards the train tracks again because it crosses under it's own lift hill and then dives back into another valley. It goes so far down there you can't see anything until the other side where it comes back up and into the station. Bents that will go up probably next week for the crazy post-drop turnaround. Here's the best view I have of the big drop. You really have to ride PK to get the only good unobstructed view. My photos "through the trees" didn't turn out so well. But believe me, it's crazy steep and plenty tall.
  9. I finally got to see everything today for the first time. Hot damn that drop looks good. It's definitely every bit the 160ft and 81 degrees that was rumored. There's only one rail going down the drop at the moment. They've started work on the portion after the drop, which looks like it will be a fairly low and extremely overbanked turnaround that flies past the old Hobo Junction. It's hard to tell where it goes after that right now - but we know it does go under it's own lift hill and then disappears into another valley before coming back on the other side of the station. The station is coming along more now too. Looks like the front will be a facade, the loading area looks pretty simple, and the maintenance bay is in the back rather than being a separate building. I wonder if that means there will only be 2 trains? Looked like there was only one bay. They are using the old time clapboard on the back though, which is a little detail I appreciate. Photos coming later.
  10. Fantastic. So both the rumors of the 81 degree drop and the tunnels are turning out to be true. This is definitely going to be a top-10 coaster, wood or steel. I'll try to have my photos up on Sunday, or Monday if I'm late getting back. I'm about to make the 4-hour drive over there now.
  11. Pretty surreal to see it out there like that. It's a great location certainly, but I don't know if it's great for this coaster. It kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. Maybe they'll paint it a more neutral scheme eventually so that it blends in better.
  12. Word is that the drop is up and track is on it already. It's apparently damn steep, but I don't know exactly how steep yet. I'll find out on Friday.
  13. New construction photos: http://sdcfans.com/forums/index.php?topic=1853.msg41954#msg41954 Looks like other parts of the course are now going up rather than continuing straight to the drop like I thought they would. Lots of bents ready to go up on the curve next to what used to be hobo junction. I'll probably be at the park next weekend. I'll grab a ton of photos and get a clearer idea of what the rest of the course is looking like.
  14. It won't run on steel rails. The track looks a lot like T Express if you ask me...RMC mentioned they wanted to use steel wheels for their wooden coasters, and lets hope we see those on 'The Outlaw.' It seems like the drop could be what they finish next, and I can't wait to see how steep it will be! It's a large steel rail laid over a wood laminate block. Define that how you want, but it's pretty much a complete grey area at this point. I just call all the RMC coasters hybrids. It will have steel wheels and a completely new train design though, this was confirmed in Robb's interview back at IAAPA last year where they first mentioned they were working on their first project from the ground up. There are rumors swirling around that there will be a pretty good tunnel or two on this thing, maybe even at the base of the first drop. I know the original concept pitch mentioned the ride flying through a barn, so they've definitely been trying to incorporate some kind of tunnel from the start.
  15. I like it on this coaster so far. New Texas Giant looks terribly awkward, though. I know it's a different animal altogether, but just sayin'. This ride will have handrails on the sections that have been built so far, they just haven't even finished putting in the stairs yet. We'll have to see about the rest of the ride, but my gut says they will probably have handrails on more of it than NTAG does doe to the nature of the track.
  16. Looks like a little piece of Bell's finally reopened after all. Robby finally got the first three kiddie rides open at the flea market, with another two coming online over the next week. What's more, he says this is just the beginning and he will continue to add rides to the site with some of the 'bigger stuff'. More here: http://www.newson6.com/global/story.asp?s=18629549 I'm not too sure how much faith I have in him to keep this going or keep expanding like he wants to, but I've got to give him props for getting this far. He's been at this for six years when everyone has been saying Bell's would never be back, and with a lot of people being downright nasty to him. He might have a grey past in some areas, but he's truly determined at least. Word on the street is that the state inspectors made things pretty difficult for him, but these are really old rides that have been pulled out of storage, set up by two people, and plopped down in the dirt, so I imagine there were issues to sort out. In all this time the flea market hasn't even made any money off it, but has allowed them to keep moving forward until they got the job done, so they deserve some credit as well. I'm just wondering now what he's thinking of adding if he ever gets the chance. I know he still has some of the octopus ride, another kiddie ride, maybe the carousel... and not much else that I know of unless it's in storage. I doubt that log flume is ever going to be able to be put back together.
  17. ^^^There's no need to say anything yet. Summer is barely underway and this ride doesn't open till next year. If they announce it now people will still think it's being built for this season and raise a ruckus when it never opens. It sounds like they will be 'teasing' it over the summer with an announcement as early as August. Great photos as always chadster. You can just barely see the start of the starting of the framework of the drop through the trees, but this one is going to be tough to get photos of unless there is a walk-back tour at some point. I kind of hope they actually don't release the full layout and let people be surprised on opening day. I don't think they ever released a full layout of PK, but of course PK is entirely visible from the park.
  18. I can't believe how much people are writing in response to this. This is so bad I feel like any response at all is giving the OP too much validation. OP, who exactly are you? Serious question - that's the kind of information you need to have upfront if you were creating a serious proposal. That DragonballZ avatar isn't doing much to make me take you seriously even for a second. This is definitely the kind of thing I used to dream about as a middle/high school student. Hopefully everyone older than that realizes that it takes more than a 'feasibility study' and a ridiculous list of future attractions to even begin to get a project like this started. But hey, I'll come for the Outback Steakhouse.
  19. I guess it can certainly feel that way if you've never been before, but really the park is actually built with a somewhat circular path system. You can exit off the main square at the front on either the right or left side and come back around in a continuous loop to the other side, but you have to know where you're going. User Crash and several others from SDCFans are reporting that the drop is being worked on now. It should be done by next weekend. Anyone going to be able to grab some shots? This is probably the most-anticipated part of the coaster with all the rumors flying around about a 81 degree drop angle. It looks steep so far apparently, but it's not all they way up yet and it's just framing so far.
  20. ^I have a feeling this ride might end up being a more low-profile, out and back version of T-Express. The rumors state that it will have a similar, if slightly taller and steeper, drop to T-express, and I'm sure they'll throw in a few big airtime hills. An update from user Crash of SDCFans: Looks like the track is all the way up the lifthill already, and the station is really growing. I expect to see them working on the drop this weekend.
  21. It's worth noting that this thing will have a pre-drop as well, so the drop will be a rolling drop. All of SDC's coasters so far have had rolling drops. In some of the photos taken from other points in the park it's surprising how tall this thing stands out. It might be higher than than any other coaster in the park, thanks in part to the topography it sits on. The station is now vertical as well, and progressing very quickly. It seems like they're getting everything close to the train tracks done before the heavy summer season really hits. Doesn't look like there's been a whole lot more done down the valley other than clearing and footer work. We don't even know how far back this thing goes yet.
  22. Ah, for the longest time I thought Adventureland was in northern MO. Glad to see Iowa is good for something.
  23. I think it's an OK name. I wouldn't mind it at all if it weren't for the fact that another wooden coaster in the same state has this name already... I think they could have changed it up a little with that in mind. Like I've said though, as long as it has immersive thematics I don't really care about any name they give it. I'm hoping the entire area interacts with the train route going through it and pays homage to the fact the very site the station sits on used to be the train robbery location for some 40 years.
  24. Looks like the name has been leaked. It will be called "The Outlaw": http://www.midwestinfoguide.com/silver/project2013/05.11.12/ That's definately a departure from the bull-theme some of us were expecting. I'm not really sure how they're planning to tie this into the area, but I'm sure they have some awesome ideas cooked up.
  25. ^ It's definitely still just a rumor at this point, no matter how reliable the poster is, but it does match the other rumors that were going around about this project a few months ago about a record-setting drop angle being included. The construction itself is also beginning to indicate that this is true. I guess we'll see for sure soon enough - they'll probably be working on the drop by next weekend if anyone can get photos. I believe a 81 degree drop would be the steepest ever on a wood/hybrid coaster, and a 160ft would be larger than both T-Express and Texas Giant... I think we've got a definite top-ten coaster shaping up here.
