Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
MJHammer1 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dear mcjaco: All of the parks I listed are owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (as it is now called). Do some research so you don't look like a fool. And i'm sure Robb's correct in that this ride will not appear for 2007 but be in storage for a while. With how early CF starts rides nowadays, they surely would have had this thing out of there by now if it were going up elsewhere for '07. Mike -
Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
MJHammer1 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wish he would have just said where it was heading. Let's do process of elimination: No Ways: Dorney - New stuff too obvious with Planning Commission Valleyfair! - Building wooden coaster Knott's - Building family coaster Cedar Point - Maverick Great America - Already had one of these! Carowinds - Already HAS one of these! Doesn't Make Senses: Canada's Wonderland - Already has (nasty) flying coaster Kings Dominion - Just rec'd coaster in '06 The Rest: Worlds of Fun Kings Island MI Adventure The parks that are left are odd, IMO. Kings Island seems somewhat close to Geauga but the parks do serve different markets. WOF just rec'd a coaster so that seems odd, too. And MI Adventure still seems like it wouldn't receive a ride of this size, but then again, it is used at this point thus reducing the capital involved. Time will tell I guess, Mike -
Geauga Lake Discussion Thread

This board has (happily) not been involved in the rumor side of this piece of news, but now that it is official... www.cleveland.com/newsflash/cleveland/index.ssf?/base/news-28/116418647144830.xml&storylist=cleveland X-Flight is leaving Geauga Lake for another Cedar Fair park. Anyone know what one? Mike -
I do not understand how this ride is fitting in the park either. Looking at google's satellite photo it seems that they've either knocked down some buildings for this ride or built supports through the middle of them. For instance, there are (were?) buildings right were the track is coming over the entrance plaza in this photo. Mike

Concept for Jeep Safari
MJHammer1 replied to Adriel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The artist of those is Scott Sherman. His page, www.scottshermandesign.com, has full info on his work. He has worked with both Universal and Disney, and helped plan several attractions. As for the Jeep Tour - it used to be listed on his web page, which is where these images came from. A couple years back when I discovered those images his site made it clear that he had designed that ride while also working on other Jurassic Park attractions, such as The triceratops encounter. A year or so ago, all traces of the images and that project were removed from his site. Has the attraction come alive once again? Did Universal just dislike him showing off something they never built? Who knows. Mike -
I'm pretty sure that Kings Island released info in the past couple days that they will have a season pass valid only at that park and a "MAXX" pass that gets you into all the Cedar Fair parks. It's odd to me that Wonderland would not offer a similar MAXX pass, especially since CP and Kings Island are sorta somewhat in the neighborhood. Mike

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Also for pics of Fuga de Atlantide: http://www.trips-n-pics.com/pics/gallery.php?gallery=gardaland http://english.rides.nl/attractie/fotos/1175 And here are some of the ride under construction where you can really see the track Intamin used... http://utenti.quipo.it/emozioniuniche/Lavoriincorso11.htm ... and I'd say that the track/supports at CP are much more Aqua Trax-ish than this. Carowinds Construction
MJHammer1 replied to DarkStitch626's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kinzel stated in one of the calls re: the Paramount acquisition that the Paramount 2007 cap ex was already in place and they would not be changing what they (Paramount) had already planned. Additionally, and more importantly, he made it very clear that none of the projects for any paramount park in 2007 was at all comparable to the size of the Ghostrider project that was going on at Knott's when they purchased it in 1997. So basically - I wouldn't bet on any large project at any ex-Paramount park in '07, let alone a Hyper at Carowinds. Mike -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
MJHammer1 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's also funny that both Dorney and Hershey's Tornados are being drawn as the same color. And Hershey's "wave pool" seems more to me like the baby wave pool that Sesame Place has, where there are little baby waves and the area serves as more of a water play space than anything else. Mike -

All the details of this waterpark are available on hersheypark.com. Part of a new themed area called the "Boardwalk." That place is going to be PACKED during the summer! Mike -

I'm not sure if anyone stated this yet - but Atlantis Adventure uses the triangle track at times, which may be more relevant now that the track under the tarp at CP is def. triangle intamin track... www.coasterforce.com/images/atadv3.jpg Mike -

I think the station is nicer than most other Cedar Fair Inverts, and I like the white stripe a lot. Mike -
B&M... getting better?
MJHammer1 replied to Three's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think GACoaster hit it on the head when they said that it's really still all about what the parks want. Take Hydra for example; it's a smaller B&M which could mean a good ride but with it's oddly large shaped elements it's more of a forceless than a floorless. I doubt Patriot has any real forces to it, the vast majority of reviews I've seen are from WOF fans, so that bias cannot be overlooked. Mike -
Just as they have been for the past couple years, Cedar Fair has received a trademark for a new ride pretty early. This time it is for "Maverick." Anyone want to take a stab at where Maverick will show up? Mike http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&entry=78798189
