Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I bet you anything floorless trains are way lighter than stand up trains. Plus, the gauge of the track is for 4 across trains...I don't see how this shouldn't be super easy. The only big change is going to be the station. As far as capacity, that sounds just like any B&M coaster anywhere. 3 trains should actually be feasible now that it will take about half the time to load. The control panel is going to be a lot simpler as well now that 16 buttons aren't necessary to release seats and harnesses. Less work for the ride ops means better capacity. -

I'm pretty sure the most loyal single rider ever to enter the park proves this wring. His ride is Mean Streak and he's been riding it basically non-stop since it opened in 1991. I don't think there is a single rider for Mantis (anyone know?) but I highly doubt they could be as loyal. There is kind of a difference between a ride that may give a headache and a ride that gives people testicular torsion... headaches are normal on roller coasters, just because one is more bumpy than another doesn't take away from the experience of the speed, pacing, or layout of a coaster. The Voyage is a prime example. Voyage is an AMAZING coaster, in my top 3 for sure, but I can barely ride it twice in a row (at least near the back). My point being that bashing a coaster that is basically normal doesn't seem very logical. I agree that Mean Streak's layout has it's boring moments, but sometimes a trimless ride comes your way and you get to experience the full force of Mean Streak I know those are rare, but I still think it's a fun ride! I would definitely take time out of my day to enjoy it. I'm not saying nobody likes Mantis either, I know lots of people who love the crap out of that ride. I'm simply saying that there are people who find joy in every coaster/ride! After working at a theme park, you come to know that. Even rides like the Carrousel and Wicked Twister have single riders! -
Carowinds Discussion Thread

Ok, who didn't see this exact discussion coming? *raises hand* I think the point of a discussion is to share opinions and ideas, not to berate people as "haters" because they don't find something impressive about a ride. It's not very respectful of people's opinions to just say "if you hate it, don't ride it." I personally express my opinions here because I am curious to hear others' opinions. It delights me to hear that some people are excited about this coaster, but it also interests me to hear what people dislike about it. In any industry, it's a total norm to compare companies, and everyone has their favorite. There's no possible way there is only one "best" coaster company in the world. Each company has their own version of quality, otherwise these companies wouldn't be selling coasters. As far as how I feel about this coaster...if I visit Carowinds, this looks like something I'd reride all day long and just completely ignore the other coasters. That's how high the quality of this coaster looks, but I also believe there are better coasters out there because I prefer certain things that this coaster doesn't offer, one of which being violent ejector air and another being launches. I don't not enjoy a coaster because it doesn't have ejector air and a launch, this coaster actually looks like a 9/10 in my book. Also, as far as the perspective on B&M, it looks like they're finally getting out of their weird phase where their coasters kinda suck. This looks a lot more like a speed coaster than their latest hypers/giga which are mostly just about lame "airtime." I really liked Leviathan, but it looks like I'm going to like this one even more! -

That's not so odd. It actually gives the ability to transfer all three trains onto the track without having to send one up the lift first. -

Looks like Gatekeeper and Leviathan had a baby...which isn't necessarily a good thing yeah, it's technically "unique"...but really it's not. At least it doesn't have a 3 mile long brake run! -
This just has to do with banking. If the 'follow in full orientation' is not selected, it will insert the element based on the exact geometry it was saved as. If it is checked, it will insert the element oriented by matching the banking at the insertion vertex. For instance, if I have a loop and I select a vertex where I want to insert it which has a bank of 45 degrees, then insert the loop without 'follow......orientation', the loop will correct the banking at the vertex to 0. If I insert it WITH 'follow.....orientation' selected, it will insert an inclined loop at 45 degrees and preserve the banking of the vertex at the insertion point.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I think a lot of enthusiasts would be surprised about the number of people who complain about rides that don't have seat belts. "Well this other ride has them! This ride must not be safe! Imma tell all my friends this ride has killed people before" Yes, this actually happens. Above anything else, parks have to consider the comfort of all their guests, and this simply adds to that. It is a fact that there are 8 separate locking pins that need to fail before the restraint opens, but people don't know because they can't see them. I honestly think it is more for aesthetic safety than actual safety, because the restraints themselves are way more safe than they need to be. -

I think most coaster enthusiasts are correct to assume any side of this argument. Just as Robb has been saying, it's either "we want this exactly" or it's "what's new?" Or in Cedar Point's case usually "what can we do that's THIS tall and THIS fast" etc... However, I think it would be completely ignorant to assume that because one coaster was designed one way that the next coaster will be exactly the same or even similar. Every project is completely different, even when you see clones. Sometimes the supports may be different, sometimes the trains may have 7 cars, sometimes they'll have 8. The scope of the engineering is much more than simply saying that it's "because of maintenance" or "the GP will complain about the forces." Often times it's just simply what can be done combined with something they think is cool. If G forces were the only thing the engineers kept in mind, theme parks would actually be really boring, and nobody would ever want to visit. I just think we're coming into an era where forces are less important than other things such as comfort, excitement, theme, freedom, aesthetics, overall pleasantness, family-friendly, and many other factors. I feel like cost isn't something that's too big of a deal right now. If the park wants something, they make it happen no matter what. Even if they have to wait an extra year or two (or 7). My common examples are coasters that the coaster community typically wonder why they are so highly ranked. Millennium Force is one for sure. Forceless? Maybe. Fun? Hell yeah! Family? 48" height requirement. Excitement? It's over 300 feet tall and goes faster than your car on the interstate. Freedom? Hell you probably won't find a smaller lap bar on any coaster of that size. Aesthetics? It's right on the freakin lake! Comfort? This is certainly not lacking, especially since the lap bars are so minimal. Theme? Well...not really. Overall, that's a good 6 out of 8 winning factors about that coaster. Any park anywhere would consider that an epic win in their book, even if coaster dorks are complaining about every little flaw they find. If you want to enjoy Banshee, stop complaining about it and RIDE IT. You're basically just setting yourself up to be disappointed if you're complaining about a coaster that's just started testing. Don't compare it to other coasters, understand that it's unique and it's supposed to be. If King's Island wanted something that every park has, they would have gotten a clone of something, but they didn't. They wanted exactly what they have. I'd suggest showing up with no expectations whatsoever, and just have a good ride! There's really no sense in being an enthusiast if you complain about stupid stuff like this. In fact, it's kind of hard to understand why some people are when all they do is hate every new thing that comes out. I freakin love roller coasters, and regardless of forces, I'm going to ride them until I die and LOVE EVERY SECOND IT!! -

I'm honestly not even concerned about the speed like everyone else seems to be. Once summer comes along and it's super hot outside and the trains are loaded with ACErs, that thing is going to haul ass! What I am concerned about is the track becoming rough like Gatekeeper has become. I'm not sure if it was just the design of the wing trains that was destroying the track, but B&M does seem to be going bigger with CF the past couple years. I hope Banshee does not suffer a similar fate. -
