Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

You rode it on the wrong spot. It's way better back 2 rows. Banshee doesn't use a "grouper" if the line is really short and/or when they have people on breaks and it's also not busy. I was there last week multiple days and it was 5 minutes or a walk on 90% of the time. It was like 10 minutes once when I massive group of day camp kids came all at once. How short is short? I went last Thursday and the line was only to the top of the stairs and they still had the grouper, a not very effective one at that. He kept assigning only two people per row. I rode it three times hoping that by some chance he'd let me sit in the front or back since there were some empty seats, but each time I ended up sitting in the middle. Oh well though. Still a fun ride. I love the theme! Not too much but not too little. My strategy for dealing with groupers is to request back or front before they have a chance to say anything. I go back 95% of the time b/c there are only a few coasters where I like front better than back. My first few times on a coaster I try both. In my experience it's very rare, like 1 of 10 times to not get your choice unless there is a huge back up. The backups usually are for front. It's been extremely rare for me to request back and not get it with a grouper. I've ridden Mystic 50+ times and have gotten grouped not i the back or 2nd to back like 2 or 3 times. -

SFOT has not actually got the least out of SFGAm, SFOG, SFFT, SFOT group lately IMO. I would say SFOG got the least. SFOG has no Discovery or 4D and are just now likely getting a RMC, something SFOT got long ago. Not to mention SFOT avoided the super loop, which SFOG didn't. -

I think Mystic Timbers is a middle of the road GCI but that still makes it an absolute blast to ride. I prefer Diamondback, Banshee, Bat and (if it's night time) Beast by a large margin but it's still a great coaster IMO. I just think people are over-hyping it since it's new. Bat? LOL. If you want to talk over hyping look at The Beast. It's greatness is nostalgia base, the trims have killed the ride. -

Except, that's not what SF Corporate does. The profitable and successful parks (GAm, MM, Adv, OT) get more and the less successful ones get scraps..ie...LaRonde, SFA, Stl, etc.. Then, there are the middle tier parks. Looking at the additions since 2011(post bankruptcy), there are clear corporate favorites. -

SFOT has received the full array of the "big ticket " SF rides. They have a RMC, 4D Free Spin, Justice League, Skyscreamer, Discovery, and the only park to get an Endeavour. I'm on board with the notion of something small, hence an off year. -

Kings Dominion too. Your profile says Baltimore. That's a relatively short drive to ride the new RMC Hurler and the always thrilling I-305. -

816. Just remember... things aren't always what they seem --- announcement date 8/16 & something is going to be odd about this coaster? 20. BE⊥TER than 4 ---- air time moments ? 3. BE⊥TER than none. ----3 inversions ? 28. Makes it BE⊥TER ---turns ? -

Wow...were talking over 6000ft as it was 5400ft before. That would make it top 7 or 8th longest steel coaster. -

Going to amazing. I love the layout so far. The lift hill ascent angle is almost like that of a giga. -
Per their corporate Q4 conference call, Six Flags wants to reduce their Capex spending even more. I would say this is highly unlikely given their recent strategy. If the ~10M pricetag for the JL rides is true, a mid-size GCI is certainly a realistic possibility. Mystic Timbers at KI was 15M. A good GCI is not really cheap.

Per their corporate Q4 conference call, Six Flags wants to reduce their Capex spending even more. I would say this is highly unlikely given their recent strategy. SF wants to long term decrease the % of Capex below 9% of revenue. So as revenue increases they are going to hold Capex amount in dollars, currently around 75M, which will lower the %. As, they said they are happy with what they have been bale to do with the money they spend. This hold at around 75M as gross revenue increases will just balloon the EBIDTA even more.
