  1. ^With some constructive and polite suggestions to a manager and/or guest relations, those empty seats could see some happy riders!

Look what years of asking when the shoulder bars were going to be taken off; everyone on every forum and industry folks at Six Flags said that would never EVER EVAR happen. But it did happen... we can suggest things to parks with out being nasty about it. There is a huge grey area between telling someone what to do and suggesting what we think might be cool.

I wish they would do something like Cedar Fair and (later) SFGreat America did with their VR rides; they took reservations for an after 6pm (or 5?) VR experience, but the ride was normal (non-VR) during the day. This seemed to work fairly well.

It feels like Revolution still has not had it's proper (and deserved) re-introduction due to the VR. Sure, the VR is fun, but they could really go far marketing the ride alone. They went the more YOLO route with the whole VR thing. They could also focus on Revolution for a while (I think it would be popular, if they did it right) and move VR over to Viper or Scream.

  2. ^I wish! I can't think, off the top of my head, of PTC's with mounted lap bars that are still in operation. The last one may have been the Joyland Coaster. The next type of PTC train to come after that (I believe) are the ones that are operating on Skyliner at Lakemont Park. Excellent trains and excellent ride!

^This picture is of the Forest Park Highlands (St. Louis) Comet coaster, a Schmeck design. Here is a video:

  3. So... uh, when does everyone think Revolution will go back to non-VR operations? Next year hopefully? I think the VR is fun and all, but so many people just want to ride with out long line complications.

Perhaps we should start a petition.

Thread goes into another downhill spiral...

edit - (Sorry guys, thought I was in the SFMM thread).

  4. ^ Agreed. Tony's the second best theme park PR guy anywhere. No one can beat Paula Werne.

Paula is like a gift to all of us! You have to check out the HW podcast if you haven't. Tony as well! And for anyone who remembers there was Bob Bennet (SFOT), Ruth Voss (Kings Island), Janice Lifke (CP) and bunch of others who were gracious enough to - at the least - humor us. Good people!

  5. I prefer a classic and slow lift hill, but I have enjoyed the speedy/cable/shot lifts as well. I just think they might be a little overrated. Add in the 45 degree B&M and RMC lifts; they don't give you a good opportunity to enjoy the ride up; you're tilted back too far.

I like the fast/steep lifts we have, but I hope the trend slows down. Everything being Badass Steep and Fast doesn't always make a ride better.

  6. Oh how I miss the sky rides at my home park SF Great America. They scared the crap outta me when I was a little guy. But we still have our 2 original flumes! And they say "Great America" on all the logs/boats, no big SF logo... which makes them extra cool.

I've become such a big fan of skyrides and flumes in the last few years. The "classic experience" is becoming rare these days. During my 3 days at PPP this year, I rode the sky ride at least 10 times. I also like cargo pants with zippers, but I'm CRAZY about old school Chance Zippers! Sorry to see the new model they are testing has shoulder bars and bucket seats, ew!

It was really cool to hear Cedar Point/Fair is looking for "classic rides" around the world. They are starting the recognize the value of this stuff. I'm waiting for the day they can restore a classic Blue Streak experience. If little Kennywood can do it, a huge place like Cedar Point has the resources to do it. (And add something about Six Flags running Revolution with NO shoulder bars again, after everyone in the industry insisted that would never EVER happen again.) Strange things thankfully happen!

Going to start a "bring back the Frontier Lift" petition

    (kidding)

  7. One of the blessings of being 43 is not caring what other people think about me.. in my cargo pants/shorts. It's just been this last year that I noticed there was in fact a backlash, and a bunch of back-and-forth hoopla about how cringe-worthy cargo shorts are. Who'd a known!?

If I'm going to make fun of anyone for their clothing, it's got to be the army's of yuppies decked out head-to-toe in The North Face. I wonder how much that company would pay me to advertise for them everywhere I go? It used to be throngs of people wearing CBGB shirts, having no clue what it stood for. But really, it doesn't matter. Heck, I wear Nike shoes. To think, they have been making fun of me for years with my cargo pockets!

Cargo pants/shorts work well for me. I have my wallet (and phone, as long as I'm not INSIDE an amusement park), in one pocket, keys in the other, and my Epi-Pen* in one of the cargo pockets.

*It's a pain to have take everywhere, but there is always a risk of cross-contamination.

Oh yeah, how about that new Meaner Streak opening next spring!?

  8. I'm a little late, again, to the discussion... but I'll add that I have never put my phone in my back pocket, and no way I would do that. I'd plop down somewhere and crack it instantly. I'm 6-1/200lbs... No way! If it *MUST* go in the park with me, it's in a velcro/buttoned side cargo pocket. Perhaps even with an extra safety pin to make sure the pocket stays shut. I prefer leaving it locked in the car.

  9. ^I've come to appreciate Raging Bull's first drop a great deal ... still not a big B&M guy, but I do love that drop. Great America is my home park too, but I still seem to have more fun on Demon's little *but snapping* first drop, and the unique/ever-steepening grand-ness of American Eagle. Goliath is good too, but I'm not a big fan of being stapled that hard to seat with a hard plastic thing between my legs. Heck, with Whizzer's awesome ramp, we sure do have a park full of unique first drops.

Back to Cedar Point - lot's of great drops there, but Gemini is the only one that really slams you out. It's a round break-over; "circles and lines" does it!

  10. I'll happily live in the 21st century, thank you very much.

I'll happily live in the moment, in real-time with the people around me. More power to you, if that's what you like to do. I get tired of looking at my phone. It gets a break when I go into a park. Heck, I prefer to put it away when friends come over as well.

Why not just use the damn phone?

Because not everyone likes to take their phone in the park.

Remembering the smashed phone screen I got on Kentucky Rumbler... Nah, my devices can stay in the car. I refuse to be a slave to my phone at an amusement park.
