  1. I visited yesterday as well. The presence of the school groups initially dampened my spirits when I thought I might not get to ride everything I wanted. Fortunately, the majority of the groups left the park around 5pm, freeing up the lines for every ride. That fact permitted me to complete 11 of the coasters with minimal waits. I think that's a record for me. That, plus the drop in temperature, made the last three hours of the day very pleasant. I really enjoyed Laff Trakk as well. Nice job on that one, though it could be a bit darker inside.
  2. I went today and it was pretty much as you described your visit. At 1130am, Goliath's line was 210 minutes, though it settled down a bit later. I didn't have the stamina (or bladder) to endure that kind of wait, so I was only able to ride Raging Bull and X-Flight, waiting a total of 2.5 years for both. The temperature dropped significantly later in the day, so I headed out. Much too cold for this westcoaster.
  3. Yikes, I certainly hope it's not that bad this weekend. I don't really have choice, as I'm visiting from out of town, but I'm planning on arriving early to beat any lines. Not crazy about the cool weather either, so I won't be staying after sundown. Is there early entry for Membership holders?
  4. That's a consideration as well, but for similar money, I'd rather drive myself. BTW, is there wi-fi available inside the park?
  5. Thanks. My plan at this point is to try to rent Saturday and return Monday at the airport. Unless I can find a place that's open nearby. I do have a membership pass, but I'll only have time for a single visit this time around.
  6. I'll be staying in Andersonville. I'm flying in to O'Hare, but didn't want to rent a car for the entire trip. Was trying to avoid taking a trip to the airport just to pick up the car, but that may be a solution. I could rent Sunday morning and return it Monday before my flight out.
  7. Got a bit of a transportation challenge for everyone. I'll be in Chicago next weekend and am planning on visiting Six Flags on Sunday. I thought renting a car just for Sunday might be the way to go, but all the major rental agencies are closed Sundays. I don't need a car for the entire weekend, just the one day. Any suggestions for getting there and back? I'm staying about 40 miles to the south of the park. Thanks for any suggestions.
  8. FYI, the Jamie Lee Curtis Taete that wrote the article is not the actress, but a male writer for Vice Magazine.
  9. Thanks for the motel advice everyone. I'll take a look at your suggestions.
  10. The cottages do look charming, but they are a little pricey for the dates I'll be staying. Thanks though.
  11. Thanks. I'll be going to the park on a Friday and staying in the area that night. I like Days Inn usually, and I'll gladly stay there in a pinch, but I'm just seeing if there are any less expensive places for now. 20 miles probably isn't too far either.
  12. I am going to Holiday World for the day next month. I see there are a number of motels close to and farther away from the park. What are the odds I'll be able to find a motel room for a couple of nights within ten miles of the park without a reservation? Any recommendations would be helpful. I'd prefer a motel with free wi-fi, and in the $60/night range.
  13. I'll going to Kings Island for a couple of days later this month. I see there are a number of motels close to and farther away from the park. What are the odds I'll be able to find a motel room for a couple of nights within ten miles of the park without a reservation? Any recommendations would be helpful. I'd prefer a motel with free wi-fi, and in the $60/night range.
  14. I'll going to Cedar Point for a couple of days later this month. I see there are a number of motels close to and farther away from the park. What are the odds I'll be able to find a motel room for a couple of nights within ten miles of the park without a reservation?
  15. I think I've seen enough of Six Flags' toilets running backwards to suit me, thank you.
  16. Thanks. I'll keep my eyes and ears open. Former Air Force brat here. Just miss the sounds and sights of jets. Moffett Field is still very much active these days. It's not uncommon to see a fighter jet flying over the western Santa Clara Valley, though Moffett's flight path is miles west of CGA.
  17. Thanks for everyone's input. Very helpful. BTW, is Moffett Field still active, as far as aircraft flying over?
  18. I was considering staying two consecutive nights in Santa Clara, but I'd like to see the SCBB during the evening, so I will likely drive down after my CGA visit. quote="singemfrc"]^ Right, but since CGA is the middle park, you could do SFDK, then go to the CGA hotel, then do CGA, then stay at the CGA hotel the second night, then move on to SCBB. Super 8s are usually fine, anything that is a chain is more than fine if you're just looking for "not disgusting" like I usually do.
  19. I actually have season passes and free parking for both Six Flags and Cedar Fair, so I won't need any additional packages. The Hilton does look nice, but the rates are a bit out of my budget. Any opinions/experiences with the Super 8 motel chain?
  20. I'm planning on driving to my next destination at the end of each day, so I would be staying at three different hotels. I only need an adequately clean bed/facilities and internet access. My travel days will be a Monday-Thursday, coming up from Los Angeles, if that gives you any idea of what kinds of traffic patterns I should be encountering. I'll be staying at a motel nearby the night before each park. Any opinion on the Super 8 motel chain? They seem affordable, yet a level above Motel 6.
  21. Hey, I'm heading up to Great America in a week. Does anyone have any recommendations for inexpensive, yet decent, motels in the area? I'll just be staying the night, then heading down to Santa Cruz. Thanks.
  22. Hey, I'm heading up to DK in a week. Does anyone have any recommendations for inexpensive motels in the area? I'll just be staying the night, then heading down to Great America. Thanks!
  23. I'm going to be visiting SFNE and Lake Compounce next week, so I'm looking for hotels in the area. At this point, I'm looking at some hotels across the river in Enfield, Connecticut such as the Hampton Inn and Red Roof Inn. Does anyone have any additional recommendations? Thanks.
  24. wow, i just saw this thread. i couldn't dream my youtube post would get so much mileage! glad everyone is enjoying these clips. i may have to upload my copy of American Screams from 1978, hosted by Vincent Price. no kidding.
