  1. Hey! We don't look too bad in those photos. Now if there had been a video of the three of us climbing in and out of those darn logs that would be a different story, lol. The helix never bothered me and I don't usually get beat up by the roughness of coasters, more an issue with motion sickness if I don't prepare ahead of time. However, I did have bruises on my thighs from the last time I rode Magnum, need to learn the right technique for that one.
  2. Ha,ha.....Well darn it, so much for help from you, are you worried about your hair getting messed up? I think going to the waterpark may be a game day decision depending on if we get lucky enough to get above 80 degrees. The boy is super jealous that GK riders were evacuated and he wasn't one of them. Weirdo
  3. Zach, thanks for the trip report. When we are there in about a month the boy wants to spend part of a day at the water park and I'm laughing because I don't think it will ever be warm enough for the water park. Seems like everytime I have been at CP it's been cold and rainy. Maybe I will just have to time my trips to wherever Bert goes......he informed me last weekend that he has excellent trip weather mojo
  4. I had to comb them out of my hair once. Bleeecccchhhh!
  5. I agree. I give those folks A LOT of credit. You don't really think about it but Cedar Point is actually pretty huge! Doing a lap around the park is quite a trek, or trying to hustle over to Millenium Force from SteeVe for a last minute ride is not for the faint of heart! And I'm in pretty good shape! It's a big reason why a trip to Cedar Point for me just automatically assumes a Breakers reservation for a 1 or 2 night stay. It's just so worth it to have a place for me and my buddies/family to chill for an hour or two whenever you need to, even if it's at different times of the day. Well one way is to be a teenager with unlimited energy or be the parent of said teenager who looks at you like you have suggested they poke their own eyes out at the mere suggestion of a break CP is good because of the on site hotel and I can just leave him, take a break and meet up later; but that isn't the case at every park. A few weeks ago at Coasterstock at KI we were at the park for 16 hours straight. Two days in a row. Not. Lying. I literally laid down on the ground by a wall, like a homeless person, to rest at one point.
  6. Zach let us know how it goes! We are planning on going to North Coast Con in July. Currently the proposed itin has indicated that SV will open at 9 because they are doing ert on Maverick 8-9 and then stated to meet at SV at 8:55 for "first rides of the day". Will be curious to see if that comes to fruition.
  7. Agreed the park will not flood or close. The only thing that could cause you a problem getting to the park is if water comes over highway 44, and I haven't heard anything predicting that this go around of flooding. Keep in mind this is pretty normal for us locals, we do live at the confluence of the two biggest rivers in North America. You probably will not notice much fuss about it when you are downtown except for the fact that the river closes to traffic because boats can't fit under the bridges (especially the Eads since it is old). That is why your riverboat cruise got cancelled. Also the street at the bottom of the Arch steps will likely be flooded, but that doesn't affect any of the downtown sightseeing you have planned except again, of course your riverboat cruise; it's also impedes the boarding of boats. We will keep an eye on things for you, keep checking in!
  8. Oh I know the rumor has been around for awhile and of course know better than to assume any part of it is true. I was just surprised at how many people that I have never discussed the issue with have suddenly come up to me asking if I "know anything?"
  9. I've been following this because my son and I attended Coasterstock this year and it was our first time at KI. We loved the park! Several unique coasters and since it's about a 6 hour drive for us probably a once a year trip. Coasterstock was his requested birthday present and I'm guessing it will be next year as well with the new Giga. With SFStl as our home park I would not be complaining about ANY new coaster. Seriously. And although we have a nice little collection of woodies, it does not come close to the coaster collection you guys have.
  10. Yeah, we really enjoyed KI, I wish SF would get a little better food options like the CF parks have. But it is what it is. I promised some friends we would go with them to HW this summer and I think we will add a day and go by KK as well since we have never taken the time to do that one. By the way there is somehow a rumor circulating amongst the gp that SFStl is getting a "BIG NEW RIDE". Several people here at work have asked me about it, knowing that we are enthusiasts; as well as the guy at the bank when we were setting up the boy's new account. Not sure where that came from.
  11. Vonni I agree with you about the antique cars. I know it sounds a little hokey but we were just at Coasterstock at King's Island where they have just refurbished their antique cars and we actually had a lot of fun riding them on a break from the coasters. It was set up very old road trip USA and totally nostalgic. As far as Supergirl going down, new rides are always ripe for problems, that's not exactly unusual. But I can report from a newly minted ride op that lives in my house and was working at a nearby attraction that at one point they had to close Supergirl because the ride ops crew had gone several hours without any break and they used the downtime to train a second crew. Apparently it was quite popular all day, so lots of interest in the new ride.
  12. Plus it works out well for the park that the date of the Woodstock anniversary is the first weekend after school starts around here. Probably, normally a little lighter crowd so they are probably hoping to draw some people in with a festival. They could have a dress like a hippie contest!
  13. You are welcome! And yes I mean the parking booths to get your pass scanned. They often have one person working two sides at the same time so sometimes gets a little backed up there.
  14. Also, I just checked and the Cardinals will be out of town that weekend.......which is good for you for downtown sightseeing. There will be Shakespeare in the park at Forest Park that weekend but that will be evenings only so won't affect daytime crowds in the park. Or if you are interested you can just google Shakespeare St Louis Festival and you should find the website to buy tickets.
  15. The cruise isn't lame, don't apologize for liking touristy things! It's a nice relaxing ride to see the city skyline and while we aren't NYC, it's a nice alternative perspective to see the Arch. Absolutely, get which ever tickets you decide to do online. That will speed things up immensely. I agree with Zach that Sat is the better day for downtown attractions and Sunday better day for the park. Sunday gives you a couple hours jump on the church crowd. Toll booth and security do get backed up though, I would be at the toll booth by 9:30-9:45, that will give you time to get through it all and be in early. Of course if one day is rainy (and you don't mind getting a little wet) that will be the slow day at the park.
  16. We'll be making our first visit to KI in a month at Coasterstock. We've done ACE events at several parks but never a park sponsored event before. It was my son's choice for his 16th birthday. Have enjoyed all the other CedarFair parks we've been to, so looking forward to the weekend.
  17. If you liked Fury, go to Carowinds for their Halloween fest. I thought it was really well done. I was 8 when Eagle opened, I remember those lines and the amount of press St Louis got for that coaster was unbelievable. I mean there was national coverage at a time without social media. It was pretty amazing. And the shot that shows both sides of the original mine train track was good too. On another note, the boy had his orientation yesterday and will do some job training next weekend. He was pretty pumped to come home with his official name tag. Even though he tried to play it cool.
  18. Airport is between Sfsl and the Arch but much further to the North. Think of 3 points of a triangle with the airport the top point. There is metro service from the airport to downtown but no way from airport to Sf except by car. Unfortunately, St louis does not have very good public transportation. You are talking about a 20 min drive from airport to Arch and about 45 min from airport to Sf. You would be much better off just to rent a car for a few days in my opinion. I agree Grant's Farm is a good option. Most stuff in Forest Park, where the Zoo and museums are closes at 5 but the Art Museum is open til 9 on Friday nights, if that's your cup of tea. We have a really world class Botanical Garden too that is pretty close to downtown if you have time on Sat, only open til 5 on Friday, and that would be a reasonable Uber ride.
  19. So, I can tell you that all 3 of the Tidal Wave boats (or cars? what do you call them?) are sitting in the employee parking lot on trailers. I was there today because the boy was interviewing for a job. Hopefully, ride ops. He still just has a permit so I had to ride out there with him and wait I could see from the lot that Thunder was running, but not Boss of course, Skyscreamer, the train and Colossus were up as well. Although every time I saw Thunder make a run there were maybe 2 or 3 people on it, not surprising with the weather. That was all I could see from my vantage point. He won't be 16 until mid May but they contacted him for an interview within a week of filling out his online application. He was told he would be recommended for employment and should be hearing back in 4-6 weeks. So, hopefully the interviewer wasn't blowing smoke up his butt and he will have the job by the time school lets out. He really wants it!! I think he was pretty nervous since it was his first interview but it also appears they have plenty of positions to fill since they are offering free tickets and skip the line passes just for coming in to interview.
  20. Yeah, when I saw the sign for the Member sales center I wondered if they really mean just a sales center or if it will be a sales and member services area, which would make more sense to me since most people really buy on line. And will guest relations move permanently to the ticketing area? And if so what if you need to access guest relations while in the park, will you have to exit and hand stamp and then re-enter.I get that they don't need very many ticket booths any more.
  21. We were at the park today. In addition to everything Danrarbc mentioned, I can give a little info on Chop Six. There was a member event and they were giving away samples for Chop Six. You got a crab rangoon, a choice of spring or chicken roll, and oddly ice cream. The rangoon and spring roll were very tasty. The ice cream was meh in my opinion, it was a weird fruity flavor (they were calling it kryptonite) but I think that was just personal preference, not anything bad about it. The chicken roll, well ummm.....it had some sort of cheese sauce in it that to me tasted very nacho like. Yes, the chicken roll at the new chinese place had a distinct mexican flavor. Not bad, but ummmm not chinese. Take that for what it's worth, lol. No samples of common entrees, like orange chicken or lo mein so......well, we'll see. Also, we ate lunch at JB's. The usual opening weekend slowdown was occurring although not near as bad as some years. There did seem to be some improvement in efficiency. We all noticed it was WAY spicier than normal, really too spicy (again that probably depends on personal preference) not sure that is an intentional change or someone still getting trained on food prep. Also, no sour cream on stuff that was supposed to have it but that is a very small mistake and maybe they just didn't have it available yet. I did notice some pansies were planted in a few of the flower beds. For those not in the know it is a variety of cool weather flower that does well in the spring and fall. So definitely intentions of making the park look good right out of the gate. It did seem to be operating more smoothly than many opening weekends I have attended.
  22. Zach! I wish I had known you were there. Too bad about Thunder, best to hit those woodies first thing when the temps are getting low. I agree Batman was running great, I always prefer it at night anyway because I am much less likely to get queasy. I do agree that the Christmas tree show could benefit from a change every couple of years. The trees did flash during the show I caught, but I think it was only one or two songs. Maybe not every show was the same? Did not catch the outages in DC plaza, but that's why it always good to have a couple of reviews of the same event. I definitely enjoyed going before Christmas this year. Last year we didn't make it until the 30th which due to extreme cold turned out to be the last night of HITP, hardly any rides were open and they were out of most of the special food items. Much more enjoyable this year but I think a lot of that was our timing.
  23. Went to HITP yesterday. All the rides that were supposed to be open were. Lines reasonable. There was a line at JL but we did single rider and only waited about 10 min, Batman, Thunder, and Mine Train were station waits. Freeze was a walk-on. Didn't feel like having concussions for Christmas so we didn't do Ninja. Looked like they had everything running in Looney Tunes and all the little kids were having fun. Really I think everything inside the train tracks, other than water rides and Excaliber was up and running last night. Pandemonium did go down about a half hour before close. The lights looked the same quality/quantity as last year to me. There was one small tree in front of Thunder that was not lit as well as one strand along the railing of the Moon Cars, but everything else was great. Some of the coasters were running one train due to the annual maintenance already underway on the other trains but did not impact waits much. Thunder was handling the cold well and the super slow crawl from the brake run to station was not as bad as in year's past, although we rode that one when it was still about 40 degrees so it might have slowed down later in the evening. We liked the new continual load on Colossus and the train was decked out nicely. The petting zoo was a good idea. Glad to see they had the animals under shelter and they all looked healthy and well cared for. The pens were generously sized; no overcrowding and no nervous animal behavior as a result of being penned up for too long. We got the bread bowl soups and they are actually pretty tasty. A nice temporary food for HITP.
  24. Ummmmm.........no offense intended here; but maybe you just burned yourself out? 30-40 a year, that's close to once a week. How do you have time for that? Don't you ever have to like clean the house, or do laundry, or go to a job, lol.
  25. I got the one for the Mack super splash as well.
