Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
Double0Kevin replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was thinking the same thing, also I get the feeling that some people did some pretty ungodly things while sitting at their computer looking at that page. -
Most coaster count sites consider them different coasters too, that's kind of what made me decide to count them separately. Also, I look at CP with the 2 different Wildcats they've had. People have counted them as different credits regardless if the fact that they are the same layout in the same park, just new a cloned replacement. It has nothing to do with being a Disneyland Fanboy - though I love how that has for some reason become a derogatory term - it's just people having fun with tracking the rides they've ridden. It's not like one day we'll have a hall of fame of coaster counters that will require an asterisk by people's names who counted clones.

Best Dark Roller Coaster?
Double0Kevin replied to drewelap's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I gotta go with Space Mountain at Disneyland as number one. It's just so good since the remodel in 2005. Here's my list of the one's I've ridden in order. 1. Space Mountain - DL 2. Revenge of the Mummy - USF 3. Revenge of the Mummy - USH 4. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster - DHS 5. Flight of Fear - KI 6. Flight of Fear - KD 7. Space Mountain (Alpha) - MK 8. Disaster Transport - CP 9. Space Mountain (Omega) - MK -
^ There is nothing obvious about the condition of the track or train. Matterhorn and BTMR can't really be compared. Matterhorn is a much slower ride with much lighter trains that aren't going to rough up the track nearly as bad. With BTMR you have a ride that is faster and less controlled; Matterhorn does a drop or turn, hits a block, drop or turn, block... where BTMR leaves the lift and coasts full force to the next lift. The trains are bigger, carry more people and that takes a harder toll on the structure and train themselves. I don't think Disney execs are sitting there saying "Hey, We haven't done much to Big Thunder, let's spend a fortune on replacing the track and trains." I'm sure they know what they are doing and it goes beyond comfort of the rider.

^ That, and those rides always have low ridership. CP's only ever ran one level and almost never had a wait other than the time it took for the ride to cycle if you missed it. I do agree though that it needs better signage, especially id it's even more obscured by GS (plus people might get in line now, thinking that it's Gold Striker's queue.

Favorite Disney Park and why?
Double0Kevin replied to Hattuchili's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Although Epcot is EASILY my favorite park, overall I prefer the Disneyland Resort. I just find it easier and cozier. I think WDW is great, but it can be a bit overwhelming. Plus I despise the difficulty of swapping parks. They do a great job at making it as easy as they can with the setup they have, but I still would rather walk across the esplanade to the other park rather than wait for a bus/monorail/ferry to drive me the couple miles to the next park. Really what it comes down to, I was raised on DL. I have memories built up there, it feels like home. WDW is amazing, but it feels different. I don't have the memories and experiences I've accumulated at DLR. This is obviously something that would work in reverse for people that have grown up on WDW, and that why I let people have their opinions and don't really argue which is better because it's all in the eye of the beholder. I haven't been to the international parks, so they aren't included here. -
FINE!!! New plan. I will be at the park on Saturday and Sunday. I think y'all knew you would win me over. HOOOOOOOORAYYY!!!!! No worries, I'll have my DSLR. I don't expect I'll be riding a whole lot so I don't care about the Lockers. Having worked there so long, I'm pretty bah-humbug about riding those rides. I've been on Medusa probably close to 1000 times... sooo, yeah.

Not only does it make money, it pulls in a huge crowd during that time. Usually over 3 million guests, which is more than any of the Six Flags parks (Including SFMM which is open year-round). -
^ Yes, like almost all US theme parks outside of SoCal and Orlando, they operate seasonally. CGA closes at the end of October and reopens in March. SFDK has limited park operation (only about half the rides operate) from Late November to Early January for Holiday in the Park and then also closes until March.

Uhh, looking at PhotoPass is free, if you actually want anything from it you have to pay. Thanks for not answering the question. Maybe I should rephrase. If I select the Unlimited PhotoPass option, would I have to pay the extra $44.95 to include the On-Ride photos? Considering the 'all photo' pass is nearly 100 dollars, it seems stingy to me to add another 50 bucks just for a few on-ride photos. I think making all of these different photo options will get confusing for travelers and make them shy away from it...I would like to have seen the system added to the already existing PhotoPass options, and just let you pay for it/download the on-ride photos at home if you like. Seems a lot less confusing. Looked into it more. PhotoPass (which is what I thought you were talking about based on your wording) is a complimentary card that just tracks your photos for later purchase should you want to. PhotoPass+ is the pay in advance option where you get digital copies of all the photos taken and attraction photos. Attractions+ is the same as PhotoPass+ but only for ride photos. So if you purchase the PhotoPass+, you would not need to do the extra $45 for Attractions+ as well. Simple mistake earlier on my part, Hope we are on the same page now.
-
^ PhotoPass is free. Attractions+ seems cool, but I feel like it's pretty limited. Only 5 attractions for $45 seems like quite a bit of money, and you don't even get a printed copy. All in all it seems cheaper to just buy the photos individually when you like them. Maybe in the future they will add more to it, like photo spots and what not. EDIT: Nevermind, they have that... It's PhotoPass +. Duh. As for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, looking forward to seeing what is done with this. I assume the ride will stay mostly the same with just some typical sprucing up. I expect this to be more in line with Matterhorn's overhaul rather than Space Mountain's (with the exception of the new track thing). And speaking of new track, do you guys think it will be the same track style, or this replacement will see us getting the Vekoma track that is on Everest at DAK and Grizzly at HKDL? Then they could get those same trains with the individual lap bars and what not. Seems kind of crazy, I know, but the more I think about it, it makes sense.

I say save the money and upgrade the S#!t out of the pile of crap they call a hotel. Adventuredome deserves better than that dump. -
^It's going to be really slow. You won't need to worry about lines at SFMM or KBF. At Disney the only lines you might find would be Cars Land, but even then I would expect RSR to be under an hour. January is a really slow time of year for SoCal parks. It's pretty much become the only slow season for them.
