  1. ... ahem, I believe you forgot something over in Old Virginia. I give it a C+ at best. Corrected for accuracy. ^^ Post of the year . I know a legendary roast when I see one.
  2. Since the official park map is littered with irrelevant information and geographical inaccuracies, I created the streamlined 2017 TPR KD map, with clear boundaries between regions of the park and all the "important features" denoted. Enjoy! Guide: "SBNO" = "Standing But Not Operating", pretty self-explanatory; "Closed" = permanently shut down, although there are significant remnants. Sidenote: I don't have actually have any major issues with the current KD park map, I just thought this might be helpful for the credit-minded among us (myself included) and to emphasize how much room the park has for future expansions.
  3. While we're on the topic of how tall Iron Hurler might be... As @Keetz discussed above, Hurler has a very, very shallow lift hill. If the first turn were also redone, the lift hill could be made steeper to match similar angles of many other chain hills - with a noticeable impact and without significant increase in the lift hypotenuse. Here are some quick calculations I made... RMC Hurler Possible Height Details Length of Lift: ~169 feet Previous Height of Lift: 83 feet Previous Lift Hypotenuse: ~188 feet Previous Lift Hill Angle: ~26.2⁰ Testing a few scenarios for lift hill height… If lifted to 30⁰… New Lift Height: ~98 feet (+15 feet over original) New Lift Hypotenuse: ~195 feet (+7 feet over original) If lifted to 35⁰… New Lift Height: ~118 feet (+35 feet over original) New Lift Hypotenuse: ~206 feet (+18 feet over original) If lifted to 40⁰… New Lift Height: ~141 feet (+58 feet over original) New Lift Hypotenuse: ~220 feet (+38 feet over original) If lifted to 45⁰… New Lift Height: ~169 feet (+86 feet over original) New Lift Hypotenuse: ~239 feet (+51 feet over original) If lifted to 50⁰… New Lift Height: ~201 feet (+118 feet over original) New Lift Hypotenuse: ~263 feet (+75 feet over original) If lifted to 55⁰… New Lift Height: ~241 feet (+158 feet over original) New Lift Hypotenuse: ~295 feet (+126 feet over original) If lifted to 60⁰… New Lift Height: ~293 feet (+210 feet over original) New Lift Hypotenuse: ~338 feet (+169 feet over original) If lifted to 65⁰… New Lift Height: ~362 feet (+279 feet over original) New Lift Hypotenuse: ~400 feet (+231 feet over original) Obviously, the last three are almost certainly out of the picture - but increasing the angle of the chain lift to just 50⁰ and redesigning the first turn to account for the newfound speed would make this a hypercoaster - something that would make Iron Hurler truly incredible. Don't count Iron Hurler out just yet, either - Cedar Point's "unofficial" source of "leaked" Iron Mean Streak photos illustrates that RMC might increase the lift angle significantly, which would have a huge height impact on a coaster with a ground-level lift length of almost a whopping 170 feet like Hurler. Also, keep in mind that they're starting very, very early on this project (much earlier than I305, arguably the largest project to date), which would befit a major revamp entailing a large height increase. Ride on!
  4. Realistically, we would be very lucky to have a height increase of more than 20 feet on the first drop, which is what I'd assume would be necessary for the likely rollover drop/inverted drop, consistent with the required rebuild at the bottom of the first drop, so this will be one of or the smallest of the RMCs. Even still, the ride should be immensely fun (or so I've heard - I haven't been on a single RMC yet ). More importantly, the ride will most likely make a great regional lineup into a world-class one. With some retheming and a rebuilt pavilion, Iron Hurler could easily fill an important hole in KD's lineup -and- balance lines across the park, which should reduce wait times long-term for the Big Three in Safari Village (I305, FoF, Volcano). The only wish I have now is that KD doesn't install pay-to-rent secure storage (or "fluffy bunnies", I still don't know why that's autocorrected ) like the rest of CF's new coasters have and stays with the current dry-side article bin policy. #thedroughtisover
  5. Are you sure? Someone said it's not because it's too narrow. I could be wrong though. Yes; Kings Dominion Connoisseurs FB page is also uploading photos of more I-Box track spotted on trailers today on I-95. It appears that the Iron Hurler track is similar in color to the Iron Mean Streak track. (I would upload a picture of the tractor-trailer, but I don't have the copyright . When I have the Instagram link, I'll upload it here.)
  6. Breaking news: Iron Hurler I-Box Track Has Arrived!
  7. To those of you wondering, yes, work has officially begun on Hurler (I've attached some preliminary pre-processing GoPro screen captures for your viewing pleasure below). Specifically, the bottom of the first drop is gone, as in gone gone, footers and all. All but the main structure on the first turn is also gone. Additionally, most of the back-end turnaround has also been removed. Not much work has been done on the rest of the ride to my knowledge. As for how my day went, I arrived at around 5:10 (the park opened at 5 this evening). I would have taken a picture of the redesigned front entrance (finally), but I couldn't owing to the fact that there are new metal detectors, placed in front of the ticket booths. Gone are the turnstiles and bottlenecks inside the entrance plaza, but the aging facade remains. Inside the park, there are a number of new drink-bottle refill stations. After making a beeline for Hurler, I met a handful of fellow enthusiasts clamoring to be the first non-drone operators to get their eyes on the ride being demolished (Hurler, incidentally, is not present on the 2017 park map). Here are some pictures of the slain beast: There is really nothing left of this drop - no footers, nothing. Doesn't seem to bode well for an RMC makeover, IMHO. The first turn looks more promising, though. Another angle on that turn... Who could these "random enthusiasts" be, and why are they here? Let's find out what they've seen... Nothing to see here... what could they have seen? Ahhh.... looks like this thing's getting chipped away from all directions. Next, I cruised over to Volcano, waited about 15 minutes, and hopped on the second row. In the Volcano queue, there are also now banners advertising FunPix, and the gift shop was remodeled in the offseason. Intimidator was a walk-on all night (bless), and not only were the trains repainted, but there are new OTS restraints, which are essentially thicker versions of the padded OTSes which we were so accustomed too (jury's still out on this one). FoF's facade was repainted. I didn't really get a look at Planet Snoopy due to the impending presentation, but they opened three new rides and a new plaza, and gave away cotton candy, which I missed out on. After killing some time on the free go-karts, I got in line at about 6:15 for the 7:00 presentation, which netted me a spot in the third row and a great spot to film from. To address this point before various coaster news sources upload their videos (inevitably before mine): Early on in the presentation, the park's Director of Marketing essentially stated that "they didn't have anything big to talk about at the conference" but that "there will be an exciting formal announcement in the next couple of weeks." Unfortunately, this meant no Hurler news to the disappointment of all attendees, but at least we have a likely timeframe. Other than that, they ran over the various passholder events, announced some new festivals like a new Virginia food festival and a Soak City Beach Party, and gave some preliminary information on ERT and on the new drink bottle system. The Battle for Kings Dominion VR game also got an official preview, which looks awesome. The KD app will also get an update soon to allow you to scan the app as your pass and to roll out wait time tracking, which is a welcome first for KD. Also, free Wi-Fi, and who can argue with that? After one last night ride on I-305, I, and presumably many others, left disappointed that nothing was announced, but hopeful that this upcoming announcement will bring good news to Central Virginia. Of course, we could always get Knotts' Boomerang.
  8. Spotted next to Drop Tower... Free drinks? Maybe? Please?
  9. Huh? I thought RMC Mean Streak was pretty far along in its renovation; Hurler's reno just started (feel free to correct/roast me if I'm misinformed). The only way that this could be the first would be if it were first to open with an August/September opening, similar to Volcano, which is very unlikely but possible since this is a small ride. We'll see if they address what qualifies as "Really More Coming" tomorrow evening - hopefully that includes a 2017 Iron Hurler opening. Otherwise, we'll be left with an elephant in the Jukebox Diner vicinity for another year.
  10. Question for those familiar with FAA/Cedar Fair rules (don't know if someone covered this yet, sorry): Someone shared this on Facebook - isn't this person in violation of KD/CF rules & FAA regulations about UAVs/drones? Source: Kings Dominion Drone Policy Disclaimer: Bragging about or encouraging violations of park rules violates Rule #15 of the TPR Terms of Service, so I'd like to make clear that no one should attempt or encourage others to attempt this without explicit park permission and proper training, that I am not responsible for or endorsing this content, and that I fully condemn any violations of park rules. I'm just asking for an expert's opinion on this & whether someone should report that this is going on to KD.
  11. Went on the last day of 2016 for a few hours in the afternoon... I hadn't gotten a chance to go in the past couple of months b/c of work. Crowds were surprisingly large compared to past Closing Days, although I renewed my Gold Pass in the morning and cashed in my bonus FL+ same-day (Volcano line-skipping FTW!). Used my food pass one last time at Tower Pizza. (Unfortunately, I didn't get much usage out of my food pass or all-season drink bottle - bottle stolen from Rebel Yell article bin second day of use, didn't visit enough times for food pass, so I probably won't be renewing those. ) Hurler still intact/awaiting any sort of renovation/demolition - no RMC track spotted . Volcano was up and down all day. Intimidator line was nonexistent as usual. Delirium line was probably over an hour. Lots of families in Planet Snoopy/Dinosaurs Alive for the kids' activities. Haunt decorations seemed a bit lacking compared to last year, and more graphic props were covered up than in past years. Oh, and they removed the trees around the Eiffel Tower! I can't decide whether that's a good thing or a bad thing yet, but it was an interesting change! I'm looking forward to the wait times feature for the KD app in 2017! (I'd be excited about the Wi-Fi, but TBH that sounds like an easy target for hackers looking for personal info, so I'll probably avoid that) /post (I didn't get any pictures, since I was using my phone for Pokemon... sorry )
  12. I feel the most sorry about this announcement for those who booked campout tickets/drove long distances just to watch in person. This is certainly a disappointment for many locals and longtime KD fans/coaster enthusiasts, although this is most likely not "the beginning of the end". I'll trust that the people in the CF/KD offices know what they're doing with this one. Keep your fingers crossed for 2018, and please refrain from personal attacks. A disappointing announcement doesn't mean we should tear each other apart.
  13. I recommend at least an hour and a half in advance, be ready to speedwalk since you might get clogged up in security. A hundred or more passholders might already be there due to the coaster campout. (Shame I can't be there, I'm on a plane back to RVA all day tomorrow, so I'll find out a few hours later on Instagram). As for my predictions, IDK to be honest. I gave up hope of a new B&M a while back. I was hoping for RMC Hurler and Winterfest. In actuality, I think we'll see a GCI Hurler redo, maybe a flat or two and a retheming of the Hurler area. Maybe the Hurler/Ricochet could be rethemed to the '50s. I'll be very happy and surprised if anything exceeding this is announced. The buzz on social media is a new coaster, although this is still purely hearsay. /lurker post Please, let's stop the personal attacks - this thread is becoming the punch line of forum jokes. Keep it civil, people!
  14. This news article shared from LegitSatireNewsNetwork (DISCLAIMER: this is a parody) -SATURDAY, MARCH 5TH- KINGS DOMINION TO REINSTALL SHOCKWAVE IN a surprise move Saturday morning, popular Virginia amusement park Kings Dominion announced that it will reopen the previously closed "Shockwave" roller coaster. The park, which last year announced its plans to remove the unpopular Shockwave roller coaster, stated today that the ride will instead be modified to travel backwards and literally fly off the rails at the apex of a half-loop, killing everyone on board. A park spokesperson explained: "Previously, to ride the Shockwave, male riders had to accept that they were facing a pretty significant risk. Now, regardless of gender, all park guests can reconsider their life choices one last time on Shockwave's Revenge. Since not all parts of the ride could be recovered from the local scrap metal company, and because of the all-new Delirium's somewhat-intrusive footprint, we partnered with Mondial to make the ride run backwards, rougher than ever, and efficiently off the rails. The new trains, designed by Mondial, will be constructed of cardboard and lacking safety restraints. Shockwave's Revenge will be reserved for guests that pay the $10 fee and sign the liability waivers but primarily for particularly unruly guests. FastLane Plus: Crash and Burn will also be available for the ride. More information is available at http://www.kingsdominion.com/shockwavesrevenge. Shockwave's Revenge is presented by Final Destination 3." The park provided this rendering of the restored ride: Excited guests are "off the rails" for Shockwave's Revenge! *THIS IS A PARODY*
  15. Wow, it's been a looooooooong time since I've been on the forums... Even if BGW is definitely teasing a coaster or coaster-like ride for '17 [source=they mention a drop in the video below], it's still jumping the gun to definitively say that they're getting an RMC of any variety, let alone a wooden one (although a great wooden coaster would definitely round out BGW's collection). Personally, I'll enjoy riding Delirium this year and will keep my fingers crossed for 2017 at Kings Dominion. #KD2017 [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
  16. Speculation is all the fun Dear God thank you. This thread was absolutely intolerable without overbearing speculation and certifiedcoastergeek. Let's enjoy this while it lasts. Fixed it! Who says we have to wait until April? #BringOnTheB&MWingStrataInvertOMG160MPHEAtOurDustFormulaRossaUSAYOLOParkingLotCoasterSafariMonorailOverSmurfMountain TheBlueberryBlastCoaster
  17. Incessantly checking the KD website, hoping that some miracle will occur and that Valravn will get delivered to the wrong park (have fun with Delirium, the maXair knockoff ). Posting on the forum for the first time in over two months.
  18. Meh. Pretty much indifferent on this one. From the sounds of it, Mack Rides and Cedar Fair will be bringing actual VR headsets to Mack coasters within the next few years. For Kings Dominion, this means Avalanche. (Maybe it will help me forget about the extremely awkward restraint situation.) Pros: Cool special effects! Interactive stuff is cool! Cons: Sweaty, reused headsets are a disgusting lice problem waiting to happen. Motion sickness (maybe, there might be ways to circumvent this)
  19. This coaster is incredibly underrated and definitely top-20 for me. During my San Diego/KBF trip 2 years ago, this is a close third behind Xcelerator (possibly the smoothest coaster ever IMO) and Silver Bullet (B&M inverts are hit and miss for me but this one was a HIT). But two family launcheds in one park? Unlikely. (Still keeping my fingers crossed for RMC Hurler 2017...) (GhostRider = worst. wooden. ever.)
  20. Currently for sale... http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=1945
  21. Oh so the animation is going to be taken really literally huh? Okay well then I have some complains about the 2016 additions too based on my ultra-literal interpretation of the video. ^^ Post of the day. Man, I was really looking forward to paying $15 for a blurry ride photo featuring 7 other passengers in the row with me. Also, it's disappointing that all of the water from Iron Dragon's lake will be removed. This will really take away from the night-ride experience on Cedar Point's best and by far most popular coaster. I was also looking forward to the launch, 30,000-foot top hat, and second station in Canada's Wonderland, but I guess that isn't happening. On the bright side, it seems as if crowds in the park are EXTREMELY light, so no need for a VIP tour to reduce the wait time to 8 hours from 27.
  22. ^^Yes, you get so close that you can touch the belly of the beast. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA #bestpartofqueue
