  1. That's right, Tackle. So why do some people think that would be such a bad thing to happen now? Let's try something . . . read these and see how it feels . . .

Darien Lake Fun Country Theme Park Resort

    a Cedar Fair Entertainment Company

    or

Six Flags Darien Lake Theme Park Resort

    or

Fun Spot at Darien Lake Theme Park Resort

    or

    Darien Lake

    an HFE property

Any of these for 2016, imo, would be great for Darien Lake, (some better than others). Now rank them, in order, in your opinion, from best for Darien Lake as 1 and worst for Darien Lake as 4.

The chances of 1 or 2 happening are slim to none. Dont know what #3 is, #4 would be my choice.

  2. Wow, I hit a nerve. I didn't mean only Cedar Fair, I meant any true theme park company. I just thought DL locals would prefer Cedar Fair compared to Six Flags. What about Disney or Universal? Only these big theme park companies could turn Darien Lake into something big like something close to what many of you have been dreaming of. Believe me, Wonderland locals were dreaming for 25 years. When Cedar Fair bought Wonderland in 2006, CW got a world class coaster in one year. Darien Lake, bought by a big theme park company, could also get a world class coaster too. The buzz we are creating, on just speculation, shows that something big would benefit DL. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see.

DL got a world class coaster from a big theme park operator... 16 yrs ago.

  3. Although it is an awesome idea, I agree with Golddisk. Too much $ and not even a ride built yet.

I agree, itwould/will be a good move when all the empty areas are filled up. In regards to the laser show, moving it near ride of steel might be difficult as they would have to make sure none of the lasers go near ride of steel or else it would have to close for the show just like how boomerang, giant wheel, red hawk, blast off, and sling shot currently have to.

The whole park is closed by the time the laser show starts.

  4. Yes the ideas are great, but the park still has lots of room to build on inside the current borders. I look at what HFE did with the old pizza corral and scrambler area turning that into three rides instead of one and a food stall and still allow for ample room to walk and such. I could see similar things happening in other parts of the park as similar smart development happens. This is 100% why i think HFE would be the best owner for the park moving forward

The moment when you realize that it's very likely

Especially knowing they are one of the contenders, (or maybe the only ones), that want to purchase Darien Lake.

People, take note... ^ hes dropped more than a few hints that hes in the know about HFE buying DL, so pay attention...

  5. I downloaded the campground map (seriously it has to be one of the biggest campgrounds ever) and even if they expanded into the area directly behind Twister and go-carts you'd still have plenty of campground left to fill up with resort guests. They can always add a buffer instead of a fence to separate the two properties and maybe move the Darien Square entrance to where Twister is (that little plaza in front of the ride would make for a nice second entrance).

An idea for redoing the parking lot is relocating the entrance down Rte. 77 towards the end of the lot. All they would need to do is extend the causeway to where it will cross the road further down. Not a huge expense but it would certainly free up a little more space for Splashtown.

Theres room to expand the campground too if necessary.

  6. Yes there is alot of room if Galaxy Theater and the go karts are removed. But its not unlimited back there as it backs up to the campgrounds. A good size coaster would definitely fit though.

The better bet is the ROS plaza going towards rte 77. There is a ton of land up there, and moving over towards the hotel.

There are two other large plots of land for expansion, the old cuda area being one. The second being behind scrambler and over towards the laser show area.

Since we are getting into September, new ownership announcements could be made as early as the park closes for the year.

They could eat up some campground space without an issue, especially right there. The biggest camping weekend of the year, Kingdom Bound, still had plenty of spots open further back. Apple Lake was a ghost town and the overflow only had a few spots used. Theres also a trailer graveyard that could be used for camping overflow.

  7. Yes, if Predator was going to be re-worked by any company other than a standard retracking, it would be closing about now to be able to do the demolition and then have ample time for full construction.

I have to say that most likely a new flat ride or two and possibly a waterslide. Obviously this will all depend on ownership, but if any owner is planning on painting and possibly rethemeing ROS with new trains, a flat placed in that general area could go a long way. I hope it would be a frisbe style ride.

This is exactly what I said a few pages back! With ROS getting a re theme and new trains, it'd be awesome to start developing that area and add some flats. I like the idea of moving twister down there and painting it (as long as they can fix whatever's wrong with it). Moving twister would open up some more area near the go karts which could be removed. I also mentioned the idea of the park adding a huss frisbee, these rides are awesome, they have extremely high capacity, and look sharp. Maxair at Cedar Point is exactly what i'd want Darien's to be like. I've been a loyal pass holder at Darien since i was a little kid, and i'm just so sick of waiting for another coaster. It kills me seeing all these parks add coasters year after year and for Darien its going on 17 years without a major coaster.

On a side note, since Dariens off season is soo long they could honestly get away with not starting predator till the end of September when the park closes. that leaves at least 8 months for work to be done, and even if it takes till june or july for it to open so what??

Any inside info on what the new theme/colors are?

  8. ^

    1) Predator would have closed by now if that was the case. It would take a while to begin demo/construction.

    2) RMC is already booked for next year w/ Lightning Rod, Wildfire, Roar, and Storm Chaser

    3) Alan Schilke said that RMC was also booked for 2017, so we may or may not see it happen for then. Expect Predator to close early next year if we are booked.

I thought GCI was rumored to be working on Lake Monster. And I would think they could wait until the end of daily operations to start work.

  9. CNL released their quarterly report the other day. No news on what attraction properties are being sold beyond them stating that 3 of the properties are currently being held for sale. Higher attendance has been confirmed in the report as well, as we have all already noticed.

Here is the report if anyone wants to see it.

Coasterkid - There are going to be some fall events happening on the weekends during September but the details haven't been released yet.

    Found this nugget:

As required under our articles of incorporation, we began a process of evaluating strategic alternatives in an effort to undertake to provide stockholders with liquidity of their investment by December 31, 2015, either in whole or in part, including, without limitation, through (i) the commencement of an orderly sale of our assets, outside of the ordinary course of business and consistent with our objectives of qualifying as a REIT, and the distribution of the net sales proceeds thereof to the stockholders or (ii) our merger with or into another entity in a transaction which provides the stockholders with cash or securities of a publicly traded company or (iii) a listing of our shares on a national stock exchange (“Listing”).

Am I reading correctly that DL (and other CNL assets) should be sold by the end of the year per their articles of incorporation?

  10. Riding the Ferris wheel gave me an idea visually of changes that could be made. The Cuda Falls hill could be leveled out and made into a new catered picnic area, and the old area could be used for a new coaster or large new themed area. Similarily, the Galaxy Theater, Go Karts, batting cages and Twister could all be removed for a new coaster or large themed area. If they want to make it even bigger the maintenance areas, bumper cars and useless Frontier Shooting Gallery could be moved as well. Theres a lot of room for expansion either way.
