  1. They're going to 69 on the 11th. They posted a comment on their FB about it
  2. http://www.kentuckykingdom.com Check out the homepage. It's shows a close up of the ride models that they are adding as well as a close up of the new train maybe? Does that look like a new model train or just a rendering? Also the Delerium type ride IS the one that goes upside down, which I am HYPED for. I love delerium and this looks like that but better! Also, we're going from 0 inverting rides to 3! That's a big improvemt in the thrill seeking factor!
  3. I think the state fair is just kind of boring. I didn't go this year because I already had my amusement park fix with KK being open. None of the other stuff interested me enough to battle the hordes of people. Also stinky animals in 100 degree weather sounds pretty awful
  4. I mean 90% of the fairgrounds is just a parking lot. They could list turn the stadium area into a parking lot, and allow KK to build on the parking lot close to them. That way they could expand and keep the same insane amount of parking they already have.
  5. Not sure where everyone is getting the idea that they're totally out of space. There is like two empty blocks right next to kentucky kingdom, not to mention that most of the fairgrounds is run down and not used for anywhere near as much as it used to be. ketucky kingdom seems to be the best thing the fairgrounds had going for it these days. http://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/local/2014/11/13/old-cardinal-stadium-demo-begin-monday/18970401/ RMC fixed up Thunder Run, so I would say they're the most likely fix for the twins. Does gravity group do those kinds of overhauls? They make some good coaaters so they could probably do something pretty cool with the twins as well. In the future Id like to see a new midway around the old dragsters and some kind of premiere launched coaster, like the superman ride. That would be a great fit for KK I think. I don't think they need to drop massive money in a big, high capacity B&M when they can clearly make Crowd pleasers (lightning run!) for a lot less.
  6. I would like two see the two sides combined like iron colossus. I think this could work even better for the twins because each side already has different elements and lifts, so it wouldn't be like riding the same coaster through twice. I'd also like for them to keep the wooden track, like they use on their new construction. Cool trains, crazy colors, and a little theme would be nice, but that's wishful thinking. I don't care what they do with the layout; whatever they come up with would porous ky be vastly superior to what I could imagine anyway! Lol
  7. I was determined not to like it, but it works for some reason. That color is awesome!
  8. Im just not a fan of one color roller coasters :/ Oh well!
  9. Yeah, not the best of situations with so much land available back there for a great new construction. That land sits right on the glide slope for the main runway at Standiford Field. I would really like to see something like Helix (with one launch instead of 2) or even a Eurofighter (even though I find them incredibly rough) instead of a structure that completely blocks the view of the park from Crittenden Dr. What should be a showcase of the park, mostly looks like a scrap yard for the neighboring auto shops. I truly think this park could develop into one of the more unique parks in America, if it focuses on unique rides. To think that it will ever compete with Kings Island is a bit far-fetched, but I definitely think it can compete with Holiday World's dry park. Hopefully the height restriction wont be too much of a hinderance. I mean Lightning Run is only 100 feet tall and that drop packs a real punch. I would like to see a lot of smaller, compact, unique roller coasters added to the park, as opposed to one giant expensive one.
  10. I didn't even read that! These are much better I agree! Some money well spent here. Now KKs flat ride selection is going to be pretty strong. Hopefully that will prompt kings island to up their game in that department.
  11. I'm almost positive they're using the new restraints. They have said they are doing something to make the ride more comfortable, and they have to order new trains anyway because the old ones left with six flags. So it's one of those swing rides that makes a complete circle?! That's exactly what I wanted! And with enterprise getting fixed, they're flat ride selection is greatly improved. (Enterprise is awesome!)
  12. Oh wow that would be amazing. Thunderbird looks alright. I was a little disappointed in it, it's just a little underwhelming to me. I'm looking forward to seeing more B&M launches in the future now! Also looking at what RMC is doing with twisted colossus, I'm HYPED about what could be coming to the twins! They already have a more interesting footprint, so if the rumors for it are true, it will be a huge win for KK. I don't expect to see a RMC at holiday world or kings island in foreseeable future.
  13. I assume the fourth one will be the enterprise. The fifth and sixth attractions are still up in the air - it could be anything from two new flat rides to a new movie in the 5D Theater and something else. I'm hoping for a new flat ride, I'm not holing my breath, but I'd love to see one. Something eventually has to be done with the back half of the park. It's kind of a mess now. Not just from being closed, but also from the drag racers sitting empty for like 15 years now. Hopefully they'll fix it up off season in preparation for the twins opening back up in 2016. I'd like to see it go somewhere in the back near the falls. That way it could be seen from Crittenden Drive. The Drag racers take up quite a bit of room. A lot could be done in that area. At the very least, they could run more exciting programs on breakdance and the flying scooters :\
  14. Since a lot of parks are gearing up for 2015 announcements, what are everyones thoughts about what were going to see/want to see with the park next year? I would like a new show or two instead of the seals (just to mix it up; the seals were awesome!) and a new 5D movie. Maybe they could have a daily show in the amphitheater, since they're supposed to bring that back. Enterprise *should* come back next year (fingers crossed because its one of the best flat rides around). The river rapids ride was good from what I remember. I know I got VERY wet on it, and the sewer theme was cool. IDK if they're going in a different direction with it, but the loading station is obviously a water works building, so I don't really get how they're going to change it to a river ride. T3 will obviously be the big star. I hope they give it a cool two tone paint job (black with red rails would look great IMO). It was a pretty rough ride, but I've heard good things about the new trains, so I've got hopes. I think Vekoma SLCs have a cool layout. What else could they have up their sleeves? Maybe a new flat? Something eventually has to replace the drag racers. I'd love to see one of those Delirium rides that makes a full circle, or maybe a new midway with some new games, food and a smaller flat ride or two (wishful thinking I know!)
  15. It's definitely way up on mine. I'd say it's on par with The Raven at Holiday World. Just a really fun ride from start to finish. It's cool how the lift is right next to the road, so you can see it really well as you enter the park. On the downside, it is a little short, and the landscaping around it is atrocious. Hopefully that gets remedied in the coming years. I had no problems with the restraints. They're tight, but I didn't find them too uncomfotable. The back of the train is the best place to ride. It's violently intense. I don't care what they use for the twins. I would imagine that they'll use whichever is cheaper honestly. That ride was never very good so I'm excited to see what they do with it. It's pretty big and I'm actually surprised they're keeping it since it's been so long since it's operated. Plus they could replace it with a good sized coaster. It doesn't look that bad honestly, I'm sure the steel hybrid structures hold up a little better than wood.
  16. Deluge was open today! Having some issues but it seemed pretty good!
  17. I remember that wave pool having some very intense waves! It's all looking good. I also found this section on their website: http://www.kentuckykingdom.com/park-info/gardens/ It's awesome to me that they're not just investing in new attractions. This seems to say that they are very committed to keeping the park clean an looking good. It used to have some very pretty areas of landscaping, contrasted with some very ugly ares. Hopefully they will get the area around Lightning Run looking good over the next season or two! I'm personally very turned off by parks with roller coasters on concrete pads.
  18. I'm afraid of heights; lifts and drops are the scariest parts of the ride for me, and I thought this ride was disappointing. It was in desperate need of some landscaping and trees. The elevator was scary, but the drop was underwhelming. It looked too scary for kids, but wasn't very thrilling for most people. I agree with everyone that it wasn't a great fit/ use of the technology. I'm sad to see it go, but it certainly wont kill the park. I hope they put more water slides in its place. KY kingdom's water park expansion is going to be some pretty stiff competition in that department.
  19. That is my issue though. It's Ed Hart saying it. You would think if it was such a money maker pre-Six Flags that several people would have wanted to get the park when it closed, but it seems the only interested parties were Ed and the Koch family, and they backed out. It would not surprise me if the park was profitable in the sense that their revenue was greater than their rent, labor costs, food costs, maintenance costs, etc. I just have a hard time believing they were very profitable when you include their capital expenses for Vampire, Thunder Run, Hurricane Bay, T2, Change, etc. I'm not trying to call Ed a liar or manipulator of facts, but I have know business operators that when they publicly spoke about their business they skewed facts to make things look better when in reality they were breaking even, if that. So unless same actual black and white revenue figures get released, I just find it hard to believe. How many people are there in the US that could effectively manage a theme park? Even if I had the capital and knew for a fact there was money to be made in reopening KK, I wouldn't even consider investing in it because I have no idea how to run an amusement park. I would imagine that this, along with the strange property ownership had a lot to do with the lack of prospective investors. From the perspective of someone who just lives here, it seems like KK failed from a bunch of bad things happening all at once: an economic turndown, a bad accident, a confusing profits sharing scheme, and the ownership by a struggling company. I think there is definitely a market here for a reasonalbly sized amusement and waterpark (100k season passes sold already for a park that didn't break 500k in it's entire last year seems to show that!), and I think they have the right people to bring it back. Hopefully now that the YUM center is finished and that there is hardly anything going on fairgrounds, they will be a lot more cooperative with the park. These are just my thoughts; the park's plans seem to be ambitious, and I think they have the money pretty secured to refurbish T2 and do a pretty extensive makeover of twisted twins, regardless of how the first seasons turn out. After that we can only hope for the best! I know everyone here would love to see RMC turn Twisted Twins into the Steel Sisters or something (but with a more clever name haha).
  20. I drove by today and the track on the lift hill is finished! The drop tower is also op and it looks great. I like the lattice metal a lot better than the solid drop towers. It also did not look grey like it is shown in the park map, it looked a lot darker in person. Hopefully it has some cool lighting effects!
  21. Did anyone go to the clean-up event the park had? How did everything look? I really hope the waterpark is coming along well. It seemed like a very ambitious undertaking to get it all done. I also hope they have plenty of umbrellas and shade, as that area of the park will probably be lacking in landscaping and shade trees for several years.
  22. Looks like you'll get a great view of it from the Tin Lizzies! I guess they will have to put up some kind of fence there. I'm glad this ride and several other new ones are on the old side of the park. I always felt like there was a mismatch of shops and rides in that portion. With the other two roller coasters closed, the other half of the dry park will probably get a lot less traffic this year. Hopefully they get everything finished in time to plant some grass and get some shrubs and trees in and around the ride. I cant wait to go and see how much it has changed in person.
  23. These pictures also highlight how unattractive the boundaries of this park are. I always thought most of the park was pretty, especially the old fair side and around lightning run, but the edges of the park could use some trees, fence work, and general sprucing up.
  24. I drove by today and it looks awesome! The park is so colorful now with the new slides, new paint on the wheel, and this! They are definitely not wanting the park to look anything like its former, loveable-but-rundown self. Lightning run also looks much bigger in person than it seems on the renderings/pictures thanks to all the other coasters and rides being relatively small. I also cant believe that the new body slide (which I have yet to see any construction on) will be significantly taller than any of the other coasters at the park. That will be terrifying.
