I rented the Blu-rays of The Impossible, Life of Pi and Wreck-It Ralph over the week-end, the latter for my kids. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them though, Wreck-It Ralph was a really cool storyline and had great animation, The Impossible was absolutely powerful in the beginning, just thought about my own kids and how many lives were lots, amazing how real they made the tsunami look. Life of Pi was my fave of the three though, the 1.85:1 aspect ratio really was great for this presentation and even on my 50" TV (ie - compared to if I had a nice 65" plasma or 80"+ projector) there was a great sense of immersion. Really unique film, must read the book someday as my wife said it was great too.
I watched "Upside Down" the week-end before and really thought it was rubbish to be honest. The 3D effects were good, but the opening narration, the super hyper dramatic music when we haven't even gotten emotionally involved in the story yet, nothing worked for me.
