Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

They scrapped it. How about moving the Moon Cars to a better spot a wrapping a junior coaster around American Thunder where the cars currently are? And darn that sucks, I never seen it before, was the coaster any good of a ride and was there a reason behind the scrapping i.e rusty or costly to fix? It was old. Dave didn't like it because the bunny hills were extremely rough. You could just see the kids heads like snapping back with each hill. It wasn't a huge loss though. It was even smaller than the Howler at Holiday World if I remember correctly. Also with the moon cars, Dave really wants to relocate them. One idea he mentioned was to expand them into the catering grove because they don't cater and use pavilions as much as they used to. My guess as to why they haven't been relocated already is that new rides are better to spend money on because they're more marketable. If it was 100% Dave's decision, I'm sure they'd be expanded by now, but that's purely speculation on my part. -

Agreed, also unsafe on the bridge over the track, that thing shakes with a lot of people on it They aren't going to remove the Go Karts. This is Six Flags, Not Cedar Fair. Wrong. Kinda. They would remove the Go Karts, but relocate them fairly soon after that to a different location. Dave mentioned maybe back behind the very back of the parking lot, so you could get people to make a stop there on their way out of the parking lot. The current track is extremely hilly, which isn't ideal. Besides, they'd have to look at the ridership numbers and see how much they really make compared to the huge operating cost. Then, they would have to see if the ridership number is declining. If it is, they may just be better off totally getting rid of them. -

Nobody is making it up... http://www.courierpress.com/news/2012/oct/04/no-headline---holidayworld/ "We did a great big project for 2012, so there may not be a big project in 2013," Koch said. "But I promise you, there are big, big projects coming for 2014, 2015 and 2016. They are already on the drawing board, but I am sworn to secrecy." Then again, Dan is not in charge, but I really don't think that is going to change any of the future plans. After over quoting the article in this thread, I was told by Paula that Dan was getting carried away. As I know he tends to get really excited easily this wasn't a surprise. In the quote, Dan talked down and 2013 addition, and apparently talked up the others. I just wanted to clear things up. Obviously this doesn't mean we won't see something big like a coaster in the next three years, just not three huge things in a row. -

The Rush Street Flyer was just painted at a pretty high cost. Unless something big and unexpected happens, it'll be in the park for a while. Also, with the Ninja, if it was in any other domestic SF park, it would've been removed and replaced by now obviously. That being said, because we just declared ourselves the coaster capital of Missouri, the Ninja will stay until we have the cash to replace it. With the kiddie coaster, one prime area is where the go karts are now. That's where I'd have to bet it would go. I know they are playing around trying to find a place for it. Finally, with the park expansion, I wouldn't expect to see the park explode now, but the park will be slowly expanding in the coming years. -

I'm glad to hear about RMC visiting the Boss, and the Hannibarrels are definitely coming down. They are tearing out the weeds and there is maintenance equipment on site. I'm having lunch with Dave again on Saturday (the 24th). I'll see what I can get out of him, and what he lets me post. Then, in September, we're gonna take the golf cart on the back roads to check out the Zombie Paintball Hayride set up, and the see the land that the park is going to expand on. I think that once expansion starts, Dave has hinted that we're probably going to have to Wave goodbye to an old attraction. I'll post pictures when we go. I still love the park. The operations department just scored a 99.82% on our corporate audit, the best in the chain!!! Don't underestimate what our awesome team can do. -

I was actually referring to the centennial of one of the rides. I'm sure all enthusiasts would love to see a full renovation and maybe even a relocation to another spot. -

Uh don't you think they have a reason? How in the world are they supposed to get wheelchairs and handicapped guests to the less used side farther away from the main path? With the closer one, there is a ramp right down to the flume. Uh Both the Flumes load and unload exactly right next to each other so a handicapped intrance for EITHER side would not be any sort of problem or major change! I was simply saying that I prefer the side of the ride less used. Your attitude is not needed so try adjusting it before you reply to one of my posts, ok? I promise I really have nothing against you with the attitude that came out in my post. I was frustrated and dealing with something else, but at the same time, the way the flume is currently set up, the handicapped ramp goes right down to the water on the right side of the log on the right side of the flume while normal guests board on the left side of that side of the flume. Then they exit where they got on instead of the normal exit. The other flume is not accessible without the use of the bridge and steps. I'm sorry. I know it's confusing to type. Again, sorry my frustration came out in my post... -

^ Ha. I have a screenshot of that blog entry because of how ironic it is (like the one called "Dan gets the Boot"). There's even some of Dan's youtube videos still set on private even though most were put back on public. When it comes to Pat, I talked to her after mass after Holiwood Nights. She's taking it really hard. She was really happy to hear that the silent auction was still to benefit her museum. She's not going to be back unless Dan is back. She said she's sticking with her kids as any mom would do. She's the main reason I want Dan back. I really don't care between him and Lori. I just want Pat back. She really misses the park. She wants to be back. For me, that's all I want. -

Dan really cares about the park. He has said in articles that he wants his kids and Will's kids to run it one day. Also, when it comes to the park's future. Dan has pretty much told me that it won't be very much affected by who is technically in charge. Both parties have the park's best interests in mind. Instead of picking sides, a wise woman told me it's better to just be "Team Holiday World." This hiccup will not stop the park from blossoming where it will be the best park combo in the country for the price in 10 to 15 years. It's future is definitely bright. Now....let's talk about what kind of steel coaster we want HW to add in the future. -

The fact that you all liked our park so much makes me really, really happy. I can't put into words how much I care for it, and when people enjoy it, it's like Christmas morning for me. I especially like the guests who stop me in the park who normally go to SFGAm. They are blown away by how much cozier it feels, how the water park is free, and how nice everyone is. Seeing TPR enjoy it and getting to stamp Robb's hand on his way out just makes me want to go to work in the morning. -

Would you be ok with shortening the Boss in order to feed costs down? Or would you keep it the same instead? What about a barrel roll or two and no I-beam track or whatever it's called? That's what Dave Roemer asked me when I suggested Iron Boss. -

On a side note, HW is sending out a survey tomorrow in their e-newsletter. Seems like a lot of parks have been sending out surveys recently, so I'm interested to see what it's about! My guess is it won't be about future ride concepts like Six Flags, SDC, Darien Lake, etc send out to guests. It might just be about guest experience or Halloween Weekends idea. When I've been asked to take an in park survey at HW, it never asks about any specific ride types. Instead, it asks what kinds of rides/slides I would like to see. (The surveyors always seem flustered when I start naming a bunch of specific rides and manufacturers.) When it comes to future rides at HW, they are able to keep a secret better than anyone. It's impossible to figure out until they've released it....even with a few clever, and usually punny, clues. *cough* Paula Werne *cough* By the way, did anyone see the BuzzFeed top water rides article where they called it Graffica? -

I think that part of the higher attendance this year has to do with the thrill and season passes. This year is the most we've ever sold. With the thrill pass being the same price as a one day admission, they've had us really pushing that at ticket sellers. -

My source is my monthly lunch with Dave Roemer. We bounce a lot of ideas back and forth off each other. They chose black mainly because it needs painting the least compared to yellow. When it comes to the queue, a lot of theming elements that are falling apart will be removed, and there will be some rehab to the remaining queue. I can't share most of what we talk about partly because it's not set-in-stone plans, but I will say that the future is very bright for the park. Also, I had the opportunity to test ride the SkyScreamer backwards for Fright Fest. I personally thought it was awesome. -

Great news! I can confirm that, unless something crazy happens to disrupt this, Batman: The Ride will be repainted for the 2014 season. It will continue to be black instead of yellow, however. -

^Yea, I just saw that as well. I know that a lot of people defend Intamin saying that they build the most out of this world rides, which gives them an excuse for downtime somehow. When it comes to such extended downtime and not living up to original expectations (i.e. the 90ft wave promised for Pilgrims Plunge), there should be no excuse for that. -

Was Giraffica closed after the Cedar Point issue? I know there's the difference with the lift, which is where the issue happened, but I wasn't sure if there was a chance it would be closed depending on what the cause of the problem was. -

When it comes to Gerstlauer rides being possibly closed across the chain, do you know if this would include The Boss at my home park, SfSTL? Obviously we won't know for sure until tomorrow, but because it uses a ratcheting system I assumed it wouldn't be included in a possible shutdown.
