Hi Robb, Where can I find your most current top 10 coaster list. Based on the fact that you have been to probably every park in the world and on almost every ride I would love to know what your top 10 or 20 list includes! Thanks.

X down at SFMM! How long till back up?
SpectralN replied to SpectralN's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I saw the cranes out there today attached to the coaster train dragging up then down a hill, takes a long time. I could not imagine them removing that track, but if each section is bolted then perhaps unbolting the track and removing a section with the crane is easier then dragging it through the entire track. This is insane! -
"X" closed at Six Flags Magic Mountain?

Why Did X valley 3 times in one month? What is causing this to happen? -
"X" closed at Six Flags Magic Mountain?
SpectralN replied to mejaybe's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I saw the cranes today at magic mountain pulling the train from the valley point. Looks like it will take a good while, lots of people were watching, seemed like from a school or college class. Goliath had a 3 hour wait! At approx 3pm! INSANE. -

X is down for a while again. They took 3 weeks of repairs to get it back up and then it went back down with same problem on Friday. Looks like it we be another 3 weeks minimum. -
X down at SFMM! How long till back up?

Well considering the last time X vallied was 3 weeks ago, if it vallied again on testing then it will probably take another 3 weeks to get it back up. -

Are you serious about this "Cutting" the track to get a vally'ed train back to station. That seems like it would be a very serious operation. I do not see why they would not just take the train apart and put it back together. -

Are you serious?! Was the ride reopened today or did it valley again in a test run? Any other details would be appreciated! -

Someone at the SixFlags office told me the ride needs to pass certification from the State before it could reopen. -
California Screamin' Has Been TRIMMED?!?!?
SpectralN replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While riding "CA screaming" the other day I did notice some "trimming" occuring, but I believe this may have to do with the rides computer ride profiles, how many trains are on the track and other factors. There are many times I would ride a coaster and depending on how many trains are on the track there are certain brake zones that would trim and slow the coaster down, while riding the same ride with low capacity and only one or two trains running those trim brakes did not kick in. Now I assume that is just how all modern coasters run, if this post is speaking of additional trimming occuring beyond the standard "trim brakes" that are almost always being used on a majority of coasters around the world. -

Was anyone at Magic Mountain this past sunday to confirm if X was operational? -

Was there any sign of X running this past weekend? Any ETA on when reopening? -
Virtual Reality coasters are really a whole other ball game. I believe DisneyQuest (if it still exists) has one in Orlando where you design your coaster layoout and then "Ride" it in a full motion simulation. Very cool, I would say that is really a whole other experience. But for the case of this discussion yes"4-D" refers to the Arrow Dynamics designed, Six Flags funded "X" and other rides similar in design. (

X down at SFMM! How long till back up?
SpectralN replied to SpectralN's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Damn thats insane, now I understand why it takes so long to get it back up when this type of problem happens! -
Well in terms of rider hourly capacity and maintenance costs it is probably not in a companies best interest to build another "4-D" but in terms of taking roller coasters to the next level and giving the rider a truly unique experience it is the right thing to do. For those who don't like the "4-D" concept, I can relate to not liking a particular coaster its all in the eye of the beholder or in this case rider I am curious to know how many times you have ridden X and how long you had to wait for it. If I had to wait 4+ hours in the 100degree + heat with the Magic Mountain thugs, I probably would not think it was that great of a ride either. For me it was a ride that really took about 3 or 4 rides to fully begin to understand what the heck was really going on but I was hooked from the begining, it is just so different from the standard lineup. Either way I believe this is only the begining and where it will go from here we can only imagine, this is just the Beta version 1.0, looking forward to version 2.0 in Japan!

Forgive me for my ignorance on a ride that I consider my favorite but what exactly is occuring when "X is valleying"? What causes this to happen? someone mentioned before that the breaks reduce the speed to much so it cannot continue further? What is the process for bringing the train back to the station once that happens? I have fortunatly never seen this or experienced this on any coaster. -
Robb, Have you ridden the home made coaster featured I believe in "Life" magazine, it is a blue track constructed on a farm somewhere in the south I believe. It has a loop and there is actually a picture of it in the On Ride Photo thread in the coaster forum. Have you ridden this crazy contraption? Looks scary as hell (from the danger, death ,accident standpoint not from the stats)

Ok so I admit it I am a "4-D coaster" Junkie, but since there is really only one coaster in the world currently that is a "4-D" coaster, I am pretty much screwed unless Magic Mountain is open and X is operating with a under 4 hour wait time. So what is the deal? Is anyone else in the world building a 4-D coaster? I remember hearing something about a Japanese park thinking about building one. Does anyone have any juicy rumors or news about the future of the 4-D coaster? which in my opinion really is taking the whole roller coaster concept to a new level (sure the mega coasters and giga coasters are great, I mean who doesn't like a 300+ foot drop hill? personally I cannot wait till we hit 600+ feet on the first drop. Too bad the Stratosphere (in Vegas) launched coaster didn't materialize because that was going to hit the 600+ foot mark oh well it was a launched coaster and not a traditional Gigacoaster but still it would have been cool. Well untill all that happens its all about the 4-D in my head, of course the new for West Coast flyer "Tastu" is going to be great, but it is a been there done that type of ride for those who have been to the east coast. There is nothing like an original concept, beats the crap out of the cookie cutter off the shelf designs. Come on designers lets take the future of riding to the next level and beyond! The tracked RoboCoaster if that ever happens sounds pretty darn wierd to me, but hey thats the type of thinking we need! ADMIN EDIT: Try to add some spacing in your posts so they don't look like one giant sentace!

Hi, can anyone post a X downtime confirmation if possible, do we really know the extent of the repairs needed to bring X back on line? Does anyone in the "Know" have any estimate (a previous poster said possibly 3 weeks or more) is this realistic? (I guess for Magic Mountain it might just be Either way any information would be greatly appreciated. I was hoping to get to the Park for the Holloween deal but if X is down to tell you the truth I would rather not go. Magic mountain does have some good rides but until Tatsu opens I would have to say if it was not for X I probably wouldnt bother going more than once every couple of years. Don't get me wrong the other rides are good but to deal with the frustrations of SixFlags it just sometimes is not worth the trouble, (unless there is X) Anyways back to the point: Any reliable estimates on X reopening would be greatly appreciated.
