Where do you see the name in that article? It says KD's coaster name is Intimidator but it never mentions Carowinds name. I'm going with White Lightning.

Everything on the website shows the trains as having OSTR's.

Jason Deane is reporting from KD saying supports are going up on site. Vertical construction has begun.

Perhaps they're getting a hyper lite? seeing as how KD's coaster is certainly more than double the $11 million price tag that CW's is. Possible but I doubt it. The $11 million isn't the total price tag either.

One more day until people complain about how it's not tall, long, or fast enough.

Good question. Not sure. I believe the total cost of the ride is $25 million though. They just posted on Screamscape that the coaster would cost roughly $11 million do to the fact they are building in South Carolina thus getting a large tax break. To date, Carowinds has spent about $14 million on that section of the park. http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/stories/2009/08/17/daily12.html On what is my question. If on the new ride, then it would be $25 million. $14+$11=$25 That's where my figure came from and would be about right for a hyper with the down construction costs.

$11 million is not the total cost of the ride from what i've heard. The track and layout definitely point to a hyper coaster.

WOAH! So you're suggesting they're gonna follow traditional coaster building plans on this one? I tell ya, it's easy to see why Intamin builds great stuff. Those guys are always one step ahead of everyone else. I hope this whole "supports on top of footers" works out well. It could revolutionize the industry. Just excited to see vertical construction finally start. Relax. You don't have to go make posts to make me look stupid either. I guess people like me can't get excited without people like you ruining it.

Supports are being moved back into the site area where the footers are poured.

Due to the economy, construction costs are down. You can build something now for 25% less than what it would have cost a year ago. Even with that though, I highly doubt this coaster will cost only $11 million to build. Sounds like a misleading article to me. Looks like vertical construction might start tomorrow. Supports that are inside the fence are apparently being moved onto flatbed trucks.

It's only one person who seems to always spell inversion wrong. Yeah, it's a horizontal piece of track. Turn it sideways and it becomes vertical.
