  1. Hi, for those where curious about the origin of the Intamin 1st generation free-fall, I just got the reply from the park: The free-fall came from Paramount Great America, in California.
  2. That's very sad! I went to Coney Island once. I used to see the pictures of Astroland on the internet - specially at JoyRides - and almost cried when I left the subway station and saw the Cyclone running. It remainded me now, an amusement park that we used to have in Rio called Tivoli Park. Was in a boardwalk too and was part of the childhood of all cariocas (people who were born in Rio). It closed down in 1995, after 22 years of operation. It was the home of my first inversion coaster: a Vekoma Whirlwind. Two pictures: Me in front of the ferris wheel at Tivoli Park, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (I'm the blond kid) and the kid rides at Astroland. Picture taken by me in 2002. Very sad day today....
  3. The coaster is going to be on an island and there'll be a shallow lake beneath the entire track and a water fall beneath the lift hill. Looks like it's gonna be pretty cool.
  4. Hey, Marcio! Thanks!! I really thought it was the lifthill, because of the staircase on the right side. The picture was taken by another member of CBMR. I also confused that with the first drop, which faces towards the otherside of the park....
  5. Glad you liked the TR! The interior of the castle is pretty cool too. It was designed by a company called Indiana Mystery (www.indianamystery.com.br), specialized in terror events/instalations. This same company build an attraction right next to the castle called "Monga", in which they tell the story of a girl who turns into a gorila and than she atacks the audiece. Pretty old ride, but with a cool new version. They're also responsible for the Helloween event this year, which is called "Noites do Terror" (Nights of Terror) and the theme, this year is "Na tumba do faraó" (In the tomb of the pharaoh). Check out: http://www.noitesdoterror.com.br/ Playcenter is a great Urban Park. It's squeezed in the center of an 18 million people city and still, a great park, full of life and colors. The log flume was open. That, on the picture, is a lifthill. I don't know exactly how it works...
  6. Thanks for adding the pictures. I'll be soon posting pictures of other brazilian parks. I also have pictures of two parks in Argentina, which I'll post soon. Visit the Brazilian Roller Coaster Club website @ www.cbmr.com.br
  7. Some more pictures of the construction. Underneath the whole coaster there'll be a lake. Pictures taken by Felipe Melo and Cassiano, members of CBMR. I'm still checking on the free-fall question
  8. I made a mistake: the park receives 10 thousand people a day, not 10 people...lol
  9. All pictures were taken by members of the Brazilian Club of Roller Coasters. Visit our website: www.cbmr.com.br (all in portuguese...)
  10. Since everyone seemed to enjoy the pictures of Beto Carrero World, I'm posting now some pictures of Playcenter, an amusement park in São Paulo, the largest city in South America. São Paulo is the financial capital of Brazil and has 18 million people. Playcenter opened in 1973 ans is completing 35 years in 2008 with 5 roller coaster and several great flat rides. It was the first park to bring to Brazil a coaster with an inversion, in the 70's and the first to bring a Schwarzkopf coaster. The park receives around 10 people a day, with 15 thousand peeks during helloween season. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
  11. Sorry about the pictures in separated posts. I just couldn't understand how to put all of them in a single reply... It's not gonna be my first experience in an SLC. I've travelled abroad and I also did live in USA for one year, working at Six Flags Great Adventure. BTW, no experience could be more painful than TOGO's Viper!!!! lol I rode some SLCs and it's impressive how they can be great in some parks and absolutelly awfull in others! And I believe that happens to all Vekoma coasters. The Boomerang at Playcenter (São Paulo, Brazil) is perfectly smooth. In other hand, the one in Parque De La Costa (Tigre, Argentina) is a headache machine! If I'm not mistaken, Hershey's Sidewinder is also a death devide, isn't it? It's been 6 years since I've been in USA for the last time and I've been to many parks, so I get confused with the production-line-coasters, like boomerangs and SLCs.... Still trying to find out where our 1st gen free-fall came from...
  12. This free-fall is being in the park for about 10 years, I believe. So, I guess it didn't come neither from Geauga Lake or Astroworld. But I'll check it for sure for you!
  13. As I sad before, feel welcome to Brazil! Anytime you want, TPR could organize a coaster Trip in Brazil together with CBMR. It'll be a huge pleasure for us to show you all coasters we have here. They're not really many, but all the parks are very neat!
  14. We have the original version of this coaster in Brazil. The 8-inversion one. But our q-line goes outside instead of underneath the ride. I like the q-line at Thorpe Park, even with the catch nets...
  15. Thank you all for paying atention to our parks down here. We'll be pleased to receive you in Brazil and go the parks with you. Please, feel free to visit our website www.cbmr.com.br (all in portuguese). We'll be glad to answer anyquestions you have. Last picture: Beto Carrero and I, the first time I visited the park.
  16. Beto Carrero (park founder) on his horse Faísca (spark)
