And what do you think we'd be talking about if the damage to the monorails resulted in some of the 600 DC volts from the pick up rail somehow finding it's way to the parts of the cab those people were touching? Sometimes instinct can get you killed. Without knowing what the state of the environment is around the accident, you can't just rush in there and expect to be a hero.

Not to drag another tragedy into this thread, but the recent Air France Airbus 330 crash seems to dispute the statement about a computer's ability to do it better or more reliably than humans. Computers are programmed by humans and take input from sensors. Humans and sensors both can fail, so there is always a chance of error. The monorail accident is a horrible tragedy and my heart and prayers go out to the family of the pilot. The more I read about how this happened, the more it appears that this could have been easily avoided if people (yeah, the humans) were paying more attention to what they were doing.

Scary -- I have that exact same article in my stash of stuff. This is the kind of thing you had to go find if you were interested in theme parks before the Internet. My focus was mostly on Marriott's Great America in Gurnee, IL. Guess I may have to fire up the scanner and share some things with everyone as well.

Hello TPR'ers! My name is Randy and I'm a 38 year old kid originally from Illinois. Six Flags (Marriott's) Great America was my home park growing up. My first coaster, I think, was the Chicago Loop (Arrow Corkscrew) at the defunct and demolished Old Chicago indoor amusement park in Bolingbrook, IL. Came across TPR looking for info on the demolition of Flashback at SFMM. The ride was originally Z-Force at Great America and was one of my favs. Not sure how much posting I have time for, but I'll be a lurker for sure.
