  1. Chattahoochee runs SW from north of Atlanta to west of Atlanta and on down, but i'm sure some of this floodwater is feeding into it somewhere along the way. I really hope they get the park open for the weekend, but I don't know that I would take a bet on it. That's three full days away and the water is still in the park. If they do that's quite an accomplishment, i think.
  2. What river? Atlanta i think is the largest city in the US that doesn't have a river running through it. And that's probably contributing to the flooding. There's not a means for the water to recede quickly enough. Not sure if anyone remembers, but Georgia officials were trying to re-draw the state line between Tennessee and Georgia to include the TN River so that Atlanta would have a water supply to call their own...due to the extreme drought brought on by several years of very little rainfall.
  3. First it has to stop raining, which it has not. Rain is forcasted through the weekend, unfortunately. I'm sure they'll recover, but I'm not sure about recovering by this weekend, or even next weekend, but who knows. Imagine all the mud and funk on everything, ruined merchandise, food...the mechanics of the rides that are low to the ground, etc.
  4. This is pretty abnormal. 15" to 20" of rain in five/six day stretch...eight deaths so far. Lots of rain in East Tennessee as well, but not too much flooding.
  5. I'm talking about normal operations...not just during Halloweekends.
  6. How does PWE operate now? I see on the webcam and Bing-maps that there is a vehicle bridge next to where MF crosses over onto MF-Island. How does PWE get around that bridge? I've never riden PWE so I'm just trying to figure that one out.
  7. ^Yep... Today, September 02, 2009, 2:21:00 PM ...till we release the details on our 2010 attraction. Don't forget, tomorrow at 9:10 a.m., we'll have everything about it right here on our website. But before we let you go until then, how 'bout a little info about the "thing"? Obviously, we can't confirm what it will be just yet, but we can tell you that it's geared for the whole family and it will round out our attraction line up just nicely. And, of course, we think it's a great addition to the park. See you at 9:10 tomorrow morning!
  8. History says that will happen regardless of what is announced, guaranteed.
  9. I wouldn't put a lot of stock into anything on Wikipedia. CP wouldn't use Wiki as an early outlet to reveal their new ride. There might be a kernal or two of truth in it, but until they can be bothered to get the lead out of their butts and announce it for sure, we don't know.
  10. Thats correct. They're limited to a body of water and float around the course...some Mack models have a tow-cable, but not the ones at Dwood and Great America....they are the same float-through model. They would have to build a pretty big bridge for maintenance, you'd think...in order to let paddlewheel go underneath. Not sure how they're going to do that with whatever they build.
  11. ^ They said in an earlier post that Mack wasn't the manufacturer, so if they're not giving false information (gasp!) then it would may be from another manufacturer....like the one at IB perhaps...which i think is kinda unnatractive. This game of theirs is getting old, really. But i continue to be strung along with it.
  12. DDF and WWF are both OD Hopkins models....exact same boats, + high capacity. Hmmmm.... I could see it happening. I'd rather see Intamin wood or a ZacSpin as i've mentioned though...but i could see CP putting in a flume i guess. Who knows. They did just spend 50million on new coasters for KD and Carowinds, so I can't imagine another 25million in capital expenses in this economy...plus all the new Planet Snoopys and whatever else. WWF in Australia, OD Hopkins DDF at Dollywood, OD Hopkins
  13. ^interesting ride idea. It would make a lot of people happy that were upset when they removed WWL. OD Hopkins made Daredevil Falls at Dollywood - could be a potential manufacturer as well. DDF has a 1100/hr capacity which is pretty good. If you read the fact sheet about daredevil falls, you could practically use the same theme for the MF island, being that its next to the river and tie in the train ride (boneville) as well...and maybe MF would have tunnels or something tied into this? http://hfeimages.aristotle.net/Pressroom/DW/FactsDDFalls.pdf But, if they were going to construct a "mountain", I would have expected construction to have started by now. So, I dunno. Interesting possibility.
  14. Nope, its a licensing situation. Much like that of the Nick characters. It's owned by United Features Syndicate, which in turn is owned by the company I work for...E.W. Scripps.
  15. More from CP's FB page... Cedar Point "Two down...one to go." WTH?
  16. Maybe, maybe not. For example Wildcat at CP pushes 900people/hr through its course and Tele2 Insane at Grona Lund pushes 800people/hr. (at least in theory). I think a park as big and with as much to do at CP that it could withstand that argument. Granted the first few years would experience longer lines. Wishful thinking, but what about dueling ZacSpins (with Water, Fire and Tunnels!)?
  17. On CP's faceplace.... "Cedar Point is not building an S&S, a B&M, a Grav. Group, a Mack, or a Gerstlauer." No SplashBattle, at least not a Mack one. Crossing fingers for ZacSpin still.
  18. Looks to me like they used less supports (than MF) so the track needed to be beefier. At least the lift sections look beefier - the rest of the track that is lower to the ground may be standard issue track.
  19. Please explain to me how they are that much different than the obvious, one having a floor and one not having a floor... A flyer train is different than a stand up train I can agree but I dont see much different between a floorless train and a non floorless train... AndyUK explained the difference using BMW as an example and you just said it yourself. "That much different" equals not the same. In other words, the two (floorless & non-floorless) are mutually exclusive. That doesn't mean there are not similarities, but they are different in the way the station is designed, the loading area, etc. B&M redesigned their hyper train with v-seating to enhance the riders experience by creating a more open car and better viewing, right? So why would they use the old style? I suppose they would if the park wanted the old style, but seeing that the two latest CF B&M hypers have the new and improved style, i would say its safe to assume that carowinds new coaster will use the v-seating trains. I'm just using logic here...so until the announcement this is all just reasoning and speculation.
  20. Well, they did come out with the floorless trains and still made trains with floors after that design... I do think they will use the regular 4 across seating on a hyper/mega coaster because some coasters wouldnt be able to handle the \/ designed trains being they would be too long if the coaster isnt that tall, like hollywood dreams. I dont think it would be feasible to add the \/ seating trains to it. Wha? Floorless trains and trains with floors are apples and oranges by comparison. Those are two distinctly different types of coaster trains.
  21. Not to beat a dead horse, but I just remembered that WVU in Morgantown is home of one of the first PRTs - "Personal Rapid Transit" which WVU's is basically one of the first automated rapid transit systems. Not sure if there's a connection to the coaster but its interesting since Carowinds at one time had a monorail and a trolley system. pics and info on WVU's PRT here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgantown_Personal_Rapid_Transit
  22. I'm surprised that Adventure Express has been mentioned the worse so many times. The beginning of the ride is excellent - and you have to have a lift somewhere along the course. For an arrow mine ride I think it's one of the best ones out there. It's long, has lots of speed (for a mine ride) and several changes of direction. It's great in the dark and is in a nice setting around all the trees. I suppose its fair though since the discussion is about endings. My favs: Afterburn at Carowinds. You hit that last wing-over just after you've slowed down after going uphill out of the batwing. That's an insane little wing-over, then circle around into the brakes. Pretty cool. Wildcat at CP. I like that it goes through the last helix pretty quick then into the brakes. I do wish they were magnetic brakes to slow it down a bit more gradually though. Mystery Mine FOF Batman clones - awesome. Vortex at KI - I like that it slows itself in the upward helix...making for a softer stop. MF is cool that in that the queue is in the ending-infield. When you see people clapping and screaming at the end, that really gets me excited too. Any coaster that still has skid brakes is cool and can be unpredictable...esp when wet. Least Favs: Mantis - too abrupt, but love the layout. Same for Raptor. Nighthawk at Carowinds or Firehawk at KI - I think i just don't like anything about these Vekoma fliers - especially the restraints - and the endings. I guess for me I just like the softer brakes rather than being ubruptly brought to a halt.
