  1. I forgot to post back here before now, but I want to say 'thanks!' for the great recommendations. We had a great time at Six Flags (and also in Vegas on the coasters there)!
  2. Thanks guys - that's incredibly helpful! You all gave the same answer, so you've made it an easy choice for me
  3. I'm going on a flying visit to LA, but I'll only be there for a day or two. I want to visit a park out there, but I'm kinda spoilt for choice. Disney is out, as I've already been to Disney in Florida, Hong Kong, Paris and Tokyo and so I'd rather do something fresh. I'm not really into theming or water parks - I'm a coaster junkie. I was thinking Knotts or Six Flags out there look best?
  4. Yeah, I remember how it feels having no money And I suppose you can't get by in the US withut a car, like we usually can over here. Well, you should add smart-ass europeans to your list too
  5. Wait - are you serious? Us Europeans dream of having your gas prices.
  6. I'm Scott, from London. I'm 31, been to quite a few parks over the years. My love of coasters started at the old Dreamland/Bembom Brothers in Margate (RIP). My Dad went on the original Looping Star (this is back in the early 1980s), and I was too young/short. The trauma of not being allowed on the ride stayed with me, and so I now take every opportunity to get a credit. So far, I've visited: Florida - Busch Gardens, WDW parks, IOA Europe - Walibi Belgium, Walibi Holland UK - Alton Towers, American Adventure, Lightwater Valley, Flamingoland, Dreamland Margate (returned just before it shut to get those credits!), Thorpe Park, Chessington, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, probably a few others Hong Kong - Disney Land.
  7. I just got back from WB. I think this looks really cool - the lack of supports meant that it didn't stand out too much or disrupt the theming for me. It's a personal thing though, I suppose. Gutted that it was still not open though. I didn't see any problems arise, and it was testing all day with 4 cars, from what I saw. Looked pretty fast too.
  8. Did a quick search, and couldn't find if this had been posted before. Apologies if it has. According to their website, http://www.americanadventure.co.uk/ the American Adventure park in Derbyshire has ceased trading. All rides are being disposed of (shouldn't take long...) and the land is reverting back to the Council.
  9. Agree with American Adventure. I went to American Adventure back in 1998 or so, when it was apparently "in its prime". Even then, it stood out as being the most terrible park I'd visited. Some of the attractions were just laughably bad - for example, the much-hyped "floating island". To this day, the park is a standing joke between me and the wife as the nadir of parks we've visited. The few coasters they did have were generic, it had poor theming, bad staff, and nothing genuinely exciting in the whole park. We got in for free with some vouchers, but still resented the fact that the park took up our valuable time. It's ceased trading just recently - check http://www.americanadventure.co.uk/
  10. Gwazi, tiger side. That thing put my wife off woodies for life, although I've tempted her back on a few since. Honourable mentions go to: Vampire at Walibi Belgium - I've seen a few people on this thread mention El Condor at Walibi Holland, which I think is the exact same design (isn't there also one of these at Busch Gardens in Tampa?), but I found El Condor to be silky smooth in the front row, whereas Vampire was punishing anywhere on the train. Corkscrew, Alton Towers (although this was great when it first opened, so it's probably just the age of the thing). La Via Volta at Walibi Holland. Still running as of 6 May 2007, by the way - wasn't it due to shut a week or so ago? These things are always swines though, the one at Walibi Belgium (Cobra?) and the one at American Adventure in the UK were just as bad, in exactly the same spot - the first reverse inversion.
