BeemerBoy Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 On this day 25 years ago the world lost a true musical, and humanitarian hero.....Bob Marley. So for those of you out there familiar with his work, won't you join me in saluting this great man with a toast of Red Stripe (or potentially something else...(sorry, I'm sure you know what I mean. I just can't condone it. )? "Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds." www.bobmarley.com
BelizeIt Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 ^Come on, Red Stripe Beer may be brewed in Jamaica, but it's the other local crop that should be used to salute this legend. (Bob was buried wth a bud of Marijuana) Bob Marley did die way before his time, but thanks to his 12 children (From 8 mothers) he still lives on. His music is as popular today, (If not more so) as when he performed during his Uprising Tour. The fact that his album Legend has sold countless millions over the years, and still continues to do so today, is a tribute to the man who popularized Reggae Music to the world.
BeemerBoy Posted May 12, 2006 Author Posted May 12, 2006 but it's the other local crop that should be used to salute this legend. (Bob was buried wth a bud of Marijuana) Well, naturally. But since I'm not a Rastafarian, and I'm not down with the hippie lettuce.....it looks like I'm stuck with Red Stripe (not that there's anything wrong with that ). Anyway, rock on, my brother....and long live Bob!

Well, alcohol's killed a lot more people than ganja ever will...but when I was in Jamaica, I found myself wondering how many white folks wearing Rasta T-shirts actually believe that some dubious African despot truly was God Incarnate? Anybody?

Anybody? I'm gonna say about the same percentage of Hollister-wearing white kids from the 'burbs that have actually been to the beach or have even seen a surfboard.... Most would probably think Marcus Garvey was batting clean-up for the Yankees, and Haile Selassie was some kind of food on a european menu.
