BeemerBoy Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Well, here it is....my first official photo trip report. I admit, it may not be as exciting as Spring Fling down the road in Atlanta, but Lake Winnie's a great small park to take in on any trip to this region. Today's visit was great. The weather was perfect, the crowds were nonexistent, and my wife and I were able to meet up with a friend (and familiar face to most of you), and meet a new enthusiast as well. As far as the rides go, their whole selection of typical flats were open and running good. The Cannon Ball, a John Allen classic out and back woodie was running as good as ever in its 39th year. As it turns out, the front seat actually delivered the best ride on the train, with great pops of airtime throughout the ride. Finally, the Oh Zone, Lake Winnie's newest attraction, a 140ft. drop tower didn't dissapoint. For what it was, it was a fun addition to the park with a quick drop from the top rather than the typical holding pattern on most. It may not be a 400ft tower "down under," but definitely re-rideable. By the way, it seems as though LW finally decided to change a certain ride sign I thought was, let's say, a little peculiar on my visit a couple years ago. Anyway, on to the pics.... Enjoy. The old sign.....insert your own joke here. lol The new, "family friendlier" version, perhaps? My better half and I taking in the main attraction. A couple familiar faces to some of you. Good seeing you guys! Intricate theming..... I kidd, I kidd. Gotta love the old school hand brake operation! Exclusive Cannon Ball shot. Sorry, no boat chute pic...but here's proof it's the oldest in the U.S. Shannon enjoying a classic. The "museum" of sorts. Great to see this stuff displayed. Hmmm, not the Pebble Beach I remember...?? About $300.00 cheaper though. Luckily, it was not put down for losing the race. For the carousel lovers out there. About the only time I let Shannon drive.....again, I kidd, I kidd.
MrMorgan Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Thanks for the trip report from this out of the way park. It's always nice to see stuff from the parks one hardly hears about, and OMG, that old waterslide sign IS wrong!
ParkTrips Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 ^ hey Lake Winnie isn't THAT out-of-the-way, it's a great stop between Dollywood and Six Flags for any roadtrippin' enthusiast 8) Nice pics Scott it was nice to run into y'all again. Since I didn't have my camera I'll add my comments for the day here * the place was dead. In six hours we managed to get about 10 rides each on Oh Zone (Larson/ARM tower like at Cypress Gardens) and Cannonball, which is a fun little ride IMHO. Though it did pick up because the ride op on the Carrousel told us it was "Mexican Day" and then went into a slightly racist (but all very true) rant against the hispanic population that was really pretty funny. * I LOVE Lake Winnie. Lots of "B plus" flats that run well, except the Round up which is run too well! The Orbiter, Swinging Ship, Carrousel, Bumper Cars, Ferris Wheel, Wave Swinger and Antiques are all very good rides either due to a great cycle, nice placement or a combination of both. * I still hate their wild mouse but I rode it twice :'> * Got multiple Boat Chute rides, a couple of laps on the train and about 6-8 rides on the bumper cars which are still my favorite non-Lusse's. It was fun to pick on some redneck kids in the early part of the day. Overall I love this place... 13 months and change 'till I will be there more often
s2pids2 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 judging from that second to last photo..i can't wait to ride the pipeline plunge!
BeemerBoy Posted April 25, 2006 Author Posted April 25, 2006 I was just looking at memphish's $1,800 plywood from the Great Gasp, and it got me thinking...what would that old Pipeline Plunge sign fetch at a Ace auction? Sure, it's just Lake Winnie, but it's gotta be worth something for the laughs alone, right?
