dubaidave Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Here's the Deal, I am planning a Europe trip for August this year. I will be picking my son up at Heathrow then taking two weeks to hit some European parks then back to Heathrow. The big question is, Which parks should I hit? Which Countries? We would like to do the trip by public transport so this might limit the parks we can get to. I had sort of thought, Belgium, Germany and either Sweden or Holland. Does that sound feasible? Of course if anyone would like to meet up, or find out where we will be so you can avoid us, that would be great. Any help is aprieciated. The furthest I have been into Europe is DLP so I am at a bit of a loss.
captain Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Hi Dave, so there are a lot of options to do. First: Do you take a rental car or do it with trains/plans? I hope you choose to drive. Second: Do you wanna hit only mainland european parks or also UK parks? If you`re concentrating on mainland parks, some of the must hits in a kind of travel direction: Europa Park, Holiday Park, Phantasialand, Bobbejaanland, Walibi Belgium, De Efteling, Walibi World, Heide Park. If you`re coming from Paris, you can also visit Park Asterix. Personally I would skip the Swedish parks, because they`re really off the track. You can add some smaller parks on this tour like the Movie Park, not far from Phantasialand or the Hansa Park, not far from the Heide Park. Even the danish parks are not too far from Hamburg. And you can add some cultural stuff like nice cities (Amsterdam, Hamburg). That`s my opinion what you should choose. But hey, it`s up to your favour. Feel free to ask if your need further details. Andy
nemesis-storm Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Hi Dave, Rather than recommending parks to you, I'd thought I mention the parks in Europe that I & my mates have visited travelling via Public Transport. Parc Asterix - Paris - Buses go from CDG airport to the Park Six Flags Holland / Wallibi World - You can get a bus to the park form 2 different train stations. WBMW Madrid - Get a train to Madrid city centre to St Martin de la vega (or something like that), the park is a small walk away. Parque de Atracciones Madrid - can get there by the Madrid Metro Port Adventura, Mirabilandia, Tivoli Gardens, Liseberg, Efteling are some of the other parks we've visited travelling there by Public Transport, if you need more details or advice - let me know. Paul
hyyyper Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 If you're planning to go to holland, i don't know how old your son is, but for like kids the efteling and toverland are really fun, i live almost next door to toverland, so if you have any questions just ask
Shockwave Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I'm visiting Europe for two weeks in August, but we're hiring a car to get between our parks. We're hitting the following parks, and the ones with stars by them are pretty easy to get to by public transport - most of which has already been explained: Parc Saint Paul Walibi Belgium Bobbejaanland Efteling Walibi World* Heide Park Movie Park Germany Phantasisland* Tripsdrill Holiday Park Europa Park Disneyland Resort Paris* Parc Asterix*
dubaidave Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 Thanks for all your help. I think I might have to hire a car. I will see how cheap they are. Also what about accomodation? Does anyone have advice about whether or not to stay at the parks or outside? thanks again
hyyyper Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 In holland, The Efteling has an hotel in/next to it's park and WWO has got a park with all small cottages (whatever u call them) and i think it's cheaper to stay at those place, cos the price includes park visit and other extra stuff, when staying in another hotel or sumtin, you also need to pay the entrance and stuff, i don't know 'bout the other countries though and yeah, car rental is the best way to get around europe, it's not that big and you can drive from the southwest to norhteast in a few days
captain Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Hi Dave, I don`t know your budget, so it`s difficult to give some tips. If you`ve the chance (and money) to stay at one of Europa-Parks own Hotels it is absolutely worth the money. It`s like a holiday on its own, but it`s really expensive and you`ve to book rooms very early. Phantasialand and Parc Asterix has their own hotels, quite worth the money if you don`t want to drive to much, but I wouldn`t stay again to save some money. For the parks in belgium and the netherlands I would choose one hotel/area in the middle of all the parks and would use it as base (so you don`t loose to much time on check-in and -outs). Last time we did a belgium/netherland trip we used to stay at one of the center-parcs resorts, nice price and well equipped - and also a way to relax a bit. Near the Heide Park is nothing spectacular to see - maybe you stay in Hamburg for some further sightseeing. Andy
dubaidave Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 thanks again. I have just got a copy of Autoroute and it ists all the parks so I rekon I can narrow it down a bit. cherrs
