Three of my friends and I are going on a coaster road trip this summer and I've found houses to stay at except for around SFA. Does anyone know of any economy hotels around there that aren't in an ultra-ghettofied area?

You are much braver than I'd ever be. I'm sure there's some in the Bowie area though.. hell, might as well sleep in ure car in the lot because it costs just about as much as a hotel room to park.

Try to look for hotels in Columbia, MD. It's not that close to SFA, but it's closer then Baltimore. Hotels closer to Washington DC and either too expensive or too ghetto.

I stayed at the Wasington DC Days Inn Capitol Beltway in Capital Heights last summer - just off the beltway on the road that goes out to SFA (about 3 miles away).

It was a "little" ghetto from the outside but not too bad, its a tower block and the rooms are fine and I felt perfectly safe there. Cheap SF tickets at the reception too.

I probably only thought it was bit ghetto as I'd just flown in, fought my way around the Baltimore/Washington traffic all in a thunderstorm and I was a bit tired!

I was more or less asking if the area around Capital Heights was alright to stay at. I've had to stay in some pretty crappy areas around D.C. before so I'm a little hesitant to book anything without knowing what I'm getting into. Thanks for the response.

Well, my experience of Capital Heights was basically turning off the beltway, travelling 100 yards towards DC, checking into the motel and checking out again in the morning.

There were a few fast-food places right by the place; Wendy's, a Pizza place or two and a big u-haul depot that my hotel balcony had a rather magnificent view over.

I'd stay there again if I needed to, but then again I didn't really explore the area or do much more than crash over there.

You may get some better ideas from other posters....

The hotels suggested are probably good choices. From my experienece, I reccomend anything outside of the immediate area of SFA. I was going to stay at a hotel in town, saw it, and ended up driving home at midnight because of the quality of it. Traveling down to DC, and staying at a moderate Holiday Inn, or something along those lines might be a good decision, even if you might have to pay a little more.
