Tutorial - Run RCT and RCT2 Natively on Mac OS X!

Recommended Posts

Hey I finally found the solution!!!!!

I made all the things said in this tutorial, I installed my RCT2 Triple Thrill Pack but I had that famous black box.

So I went on GameCopyWorld (http://www.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_rollercoaster_tycoon_2.shtml) and downloaded the "Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 v1.0 [ENGLISH] No-CD/Fixed EXE" NO cd patch.

I removed the rct2.exe normally selected for lauching the game in Wineskin by this NoCd patch and it worked!

Hope it will works for you guys !!!

(sorry for poor english)

Wacky Worlds will work with the no-CD patch, but not Time Twister.

I cannot stress this enough - do not put a no-CD patch on RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 or 2 if you do not have the original disc! It's illegal!

Refer to THIS POST, as you need to install the RCT patch for Windows XP. This wasn't included in the original tutorial, and I plan to make a revision sometime in the next month (during semester break).

Remember to set the .EXE back to RCT.exe after you install the patch.

Also remember that the patch is for the BLUE DISC ONLY.

Also, for those of you using RCT2, remember that when you install, it needs to be the FULL INSTALL.

This might be a stupid question, but any idea how to change the window size when installing RCT2? In Wineskin's screen options I selected Override and Virtual Desktop, and no matter which resolution I choose I get a relatively small window for the game. It works fine, and everything, but I was hoping to make the window roughly 1280x800, and the window I get seems to be 1024x768.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Never mind you can do it in-game. You're limited to 4:3 but so was the old game. I might try re-installing at a lower resolution as everything is tiny.

EDIT: RCT2 seems to work FAR better full-screen for me. With a bit of fiddling you can get it to run in 1280x720 resolution which makes everything a sensible size. If people are seeing flickering at the top of the screen, changing the resolution (in game) worked for me.

Everything about the download worked perfectly for me. However, whenever I save any game the screen colors become completely distorted and even with closing and reopening the program, the saved game remains scrambled. I've tried to mess with the screen settings, but I can't figure out what's happening. Has this happened to anyone else and how did they fix it?

Thank you so much for posting this! I have successfully installed and run the program; however, when it's running, for some reason I can't click certain options, like actually being able to build rides and kiosks and such. Do you have any idea how to fix that?

Hey. So I'm running RCT from the original disk on my MBP 15" i7 with 10.8.2, running Wineskin 2.5.8 with Engine 1.5.8. The EXE file has been located and I can get the game up and running. Have made modifications to the screen so everything is working as it should... Theoretically. However when I start the game up and click New Game, it prompts me to select a ground, which I do and then it just takes me back to the New Game menu. Any ideas?

I've tried this stuff on my Mac but it's still running 10.5 so I run into problems. Not really a big deal though since I don't use the Mac that much and am getting a $1500 PC with money I've been saving up for like 5 years. Still cool that this can be done but I ran into a bunch of problems mostly OS related.

Thank you so much for the work and time youve put into this. Now there is one thing that is really bugging me. I own the gold pack of the original roller coaster tycoon which includes rollercoaster tycoon, corkscrew and follies, and loopy landscapes. they all come in 3 seperate disc and i was wondering if there is a way to add the expansions ( corkscrew and follies, loopy landscapes) to the original roller coaster tycoon. either way, thank you so much!

Pop the expansion disc in, go into the game's Wineskin, "Install Software", "Choose Setup Executable". You choose the setup.exe on your expansion disc.

Hi, I've followed the instructions up to step 14, but I can't find RCT1.exe. I'm trying to install RCT1 on a Mac OS X 10.5.7 and once I install the game and I click "Play," the game runs but when you try to click "New Game" it just flashes and doesn't do anything. You can't get into the actual game- you can only interact with the start screen. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Try right clicking on icon and picking show package contents. Run the Wineskin app in this folder.

Select advanced tools and than Winetricks. Look for the ddr=gdi setting and run that.

I haven't been able to keep up on this due to much more important obligations. I'll run some more tests in a few weeks, and again when Mac OS X 10.9 is released.

So I was able to install Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 using Wine/Winebox - whenever I try using the no-CD patch with Wineskin it just endlessly loops when you try to select the .exe file. The original game along with Wacky Worlds works, but whenever I play the game, saving, loading, and renaming rides freezes the screen and is impossible to fix. Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm using the newest iOS X.

Hi,

I followed all of these steps to create the wrapper. Everything worked until the test. The wrapper came up in the dock but nothing appeared on-screen. I waited for literally an hour and nothing happened, so I quit it. I tried opening it in the Finder, and the same thing happened. Did I do something wrong?

My specs:

Intel Core Duo 2.2 Ghz

nVidia GeForce 8600M GT 128 MB

Running on Mavericks. And yes, I was using the most recent Wine engine.

Not sure if this will be resurrecting this thread, but whatever.

Hello,

I have a question.

Everything works for me, but after I installed everything I can't find the icon of Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 (just the icon of the Wineskin which I named 'Rollercoaster tycoon 2". So I can only do the test run, but I can't try to play the game 'for real'.

Can you help me? I installed the full game (so with Costum).

Thanks a lot!

Hey guys, I've been kind of neglecting this thread. The Wineskin thing has been at the absolute lowest priority merely because it takes a long time for me to test it. Also, I want to make sure it works before republishing the tutorial. I've been tied up with other, more important projects too.

I'll get to it soon.
