burningstroller Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I was at Canobie Lake yesterday and noticed something odd about the supports and footers for Untamed. The supports do not appear to be bolted into the footers, instead they are sitting on rubber pads that are placed on top of the footer. There also appears to be various areas around the supports that appear to be weighted down. I've attached the only picture that I took, you can kind of see what Im talking about at the bottom. I know this particular model is available in permanent and portable. I'm wondering if it is typical of this ride to not be permanently secured to the footers.
Moose Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I *think* its an issue of foundation vs. steel cost. I assume connecting the columns like this causes far fewer and far less complicated footings to be required since the forces are distributed more evenly. As far as bolting vs rubber pads, my guess is that its a thermal expansion thing. How did you like the coaster? Were they still doing the "First Rider Club" on Sunday?
burningstroller Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 Interesting. Yep, they were still doing the first rider deal. I had totally forgotten about it then when we left the ride we were given a card to get a free t-shirt and Screeemfest pass. Not a bad day, especially with everything being walk-on. The ride looks fantastic, I'd swear they spent more money on the station and overall theming than on the actual ride. The ride, however, is a little jarring. It's smooth but the transitions are harsh.
