From Syracuse.com:

Greek Peak Mountain Resort in Cortland County announced Thursday that it will soon complete work on an adventure center that’s part of a $20 million expansion.

The center, which will open on June 1, includes a ropes course, zip lines, a mountain biking park, alpine coaster and tubing center, said resort president Al Kryger.

Greek Peak, which is south of Cortland, is also building a 400-guest conference center, which is expected to open in September, and a new quad ski lift. The $20 million project will create 40 to 50 full-time jobs, Kryger said.

“It’s a unique site with a lot of opportunities,” he said. “I’m pretty excited about keeping the expansion going and moving it forward.”

Funding for the expansion was secured through loans with the Tennessee Commerce Bank and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s rural development department.

In December 2009, Greek Peak opened the Hope Lake Lodge and Conference Center, with an indoor water park.

The $48.6 million hotel-condo complex features 151 rooms, spa, 41,000-square-foot indoor water park, restaurant and lounge.

The USDA provided guarantees for about $30 million in loans from Tennessee Commerce Bank to finance construction, convert timeshares into hotel rooms and make additional improvements throughout the resort, said rural development state director Jill Harvey.

“This project is so exciting,” Harvey said. “It provides recreation, it provides jobs.”

I am soooooo excited. I don't know if alpine coasters really count as credits, but it's great to hear that something like this is coming to my area. Everyone already says that Greek Peak is an awesome place to ski around here, and these new additions will only add to its popularity, I think.

So, TPR crew, next time you're going through the Northeast, consider a quick stop here if you're so inclined.

I'm so glad that "Adventure Parks" like this have really been taking off more and more in the US. It's kind of like when amusement parks realized that they can extend their season by offering Halloween and Christmas events, many of the ski resorts and winter sports parks are doing the same with expansions like this over the summer.

When we talked to Weigand at IAAPA they seemed like their business was just going crazy! Good for them!

^ I'm so happy that a place in my area got wise to what you're talking about with the growing number of adventure parks...when I heard about them first installing an indoor waterpark a few years back, I thought that it was a wonderful idea to get tourists up here in the non-winter months.

Now it looks like they're taking this good idea, and making it even better.
