jedimaster1227 Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 http://thechronicleherald.ca/NovaScotia/1184926.html Upper Clements Park is riding high this year. When the park opens on June 16, two new zip lines will be running through, or actually, above and across, the centre of the amusement park. They will be more than 100 metres long and, at one point, about 22 metres in the air, park general manager Gregg Gaul said in a recent interview. "We’re really looking forward to a good summer. There is a lot of work being done now with over $200,000 invested this year and $1.5 million invested in the last few years." While the zip lines are a great new attraction, the really big news will be the start of construction this year of the new adventure park that is slated to open a year from now. It is being built on the site of the former wildlife park, which closed last September. The new park’s centrepiece will be an aerial park consisting of more zip lines, elevated obstacle courses, tree bridges and above ground stations for people. It will be complemented with survival camping, cross-country bike trails, yurt camping, paint ball arena and a recreational vehicle park. It will be located on the south side of the existing theme park. "We understand that this is a family park and we have to broaden our appeal," Gaul said. "We’re moving towards thrills, interactive attractions, healthy lifestyle and entertainment, and we feel the new adventure park can attain that," said Gaul. "The adventure park will provide us with a longer operating season. That park can be open up to 100 days, plus groups can make reservations in the winter time." The adventure park isn’t the only good news coming from the tourist attraction. "We had a good year last year. In spite of the weather, we realized the largest operating surplus in the park’s history," Gaul said. The park has been under the management of the non-profit Hanse Society since 1997. It took over ownership in 2007 and has proven the park can run on its own merits.
