Effective today, Darla Morse becomes chief information officer for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. A SeaWorld spokesman said Morse will oversee IT operations at all 10 of the Orlando-based company’s theme parks, including SeaWorlds in Orlando, San Diego and San Antonio and Busch Gardens in Tampa and Williamsburg, Va. Morse had previously been vice president of IT at Disney World. The hire is especially intriguing because Morse was believed to be among the Disney theme-park executives working on the company’s hush-hush “Next Generation Experience” project, a wide-ranging high-tech initiative aimed, at least in part, at incorporating wireless technology into everything from hotels to rides and shows. Disney, which has required employees involved in the project sign confidentiality agreements, is said to have budgeted between $1 billion and $1.5 billion for the project. More on that here.
