mrceagle Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Wanting to get out for a cheap day a friend and I opted to make our way to Story Land In Glen, NH. I had a season pass and she gets in free since she is in a wheel chair. We didn’t rush out and got to the park around noon. The Weather was nice compared to Southern New England that was being bombarded by rain. At Story Land cloudy and worm a perfect park day. Our day was simple get pictures hit some rides. Just get away for the day. So we set out on our day. In all we had a good day. I hit a lot of rides while my friend opted to hang back. She rode the Ferris wheel Carousel and train (last ride of the day) that were wheelchair ready, She also road the safari ride. I hit the Bamboo chutes (Flume) multiple times. I also got one ride on Dr Geysers (Rapids ride), Crazy barn, Flying fish (scooters), Turtle Twirl, the Los Bravos Silver Mine. I took in 13 rides on the Polorcoaster. I also hit all the rides my friend did. My favorite ride in the park outside of the coaster is the Cuckoo Clockenspeil. The attraction is a custom Tea cup ride. The ride is wrapped half inside and half outside of a custom, in house built giant cuckoo clock. The park was looking pretty good. After talking to one of the Managers, they said they switched up some of the plants, and it seems to have worked well. The park looks highly landscaped even in the late season. The park was well cared for except for a few walkways that should be replaced by next season. The live shows were over for the season. We watched the only show they have. Farm Follies is an Animatronics show created specifically for Story Land. It’s a fun show with catchy songs that teach you how things work at a farm. here is a segment of the show: One thing I was thrilled about this trip was a few additions made since my last one. They installed all the Statue windmills that used to be in front of the Heritage. 2 were added inside the car ride, one was by the Balloon Race, and another was added in the farm area. I ask about next year, there are no plans for a new ride setup at this time. That doesn’t mean they won’t get one. The circus show will be back for another season with 3 new acts. The 2 live shows will also be replaced with something new. In all it was a good day and I hope I can get one more trip in before the end of the season.
mrceagle Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 A quick update. Took in a few hours at the park last Sunday closing weekend for the park. Mild crowds but the park was in full swing. no new news form last trip. shows seem to be a priority over rides. So who knows when teh park will add another ride.
Wumbology Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 This looks like a really nice park. My family has a house in Southern Vermont, and if we're up there for a while this Summer I'll have to convince my family to drive up there and we can spend a few hours. Isn't this owned by Kennywood Entertainment? Like Lake Compounce? Lake Compounce is my semi-home park and my family loves that one. [Oh, I recognize this is six months old. I was just looking for a Story Land TR to see what it looks like. Thanks!]
mrceagle Posted March 21, 2010 Author Posted March 21, 2010 I'm always happy to get another enthusiastic viewer. even 6 months latter. It's an easy day trip from southern VT. Maybe 3 hours drive. the park is owned by Kennywood. It was sold a few years ago after the owner fell ill. It's well worth a trip. Might want to make a weekend of it since there are other attractions like Clark's Trading post and Santa's Village which are also well worth a visit. I have trip reports posted from those attractions as well. Feel free to contact me with any questions regarding New England attractions and parks.
Wumbology Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Thanks for the advice. The only park I've been up to that far north is the Alpine Slide & such at Bromley Sun Mountain Adventure Park. However, I could see a nice summer season with Story Land, Santa's Village, Canobie Lake Park, and Santa's Land together- all parks I've yet to see. And I'll be on a class trip to Six Flags New England anyway to kick off [my] season this June, so it all works out! I'm curious about that crazy "Rocket to the Moon" type thing in one of the first pictures. I noticed, on the Story Land FB page, that the "cannon" was being removed, and many users were talking about the memories they had of that attraction. What was it?
mrceagle Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 The Journey to the Moon was a dark ride. It ran off a coaster style track with cars similar to that of Pretzell. You were lifted (blasted) up towards the moon the cannon had a screen with images and a shot of the Old B&W From the earth to the moon shot of the capsule hitting the moons eye. You the slowly road down teh track through a few sets. Most notable a whistling dragon taking a bath. Some set pieces like the safari's air mail, started as a robot in the moon ride. I associated the ride strongly to the original Journey into imagination at Disney's EPCOT. The Attraction had one higher end Animatronic and that was the Wizard (the one that took you on your journey) He came towards the end of the rides life span replacing a hand animated wizard which was what was at the beginning of the ride. The ride was removed for one main reason and that was because it was too low capacity and could not be easily upgraded. Though it was a dated ride it still pulled hour lines which was something the park did not want. Normally lines are kept to 20-25 minutes even on the busiest of days. I hope this info helps They did not bring in a new dark ride. instead a Foam factory and stage was added to the dome. The only Dark ride in The White mountains is The Holly humbug Adventure. and interactive Dark ride at Santa's Village. Feel free to look over my profile I have TR form all the NH park. I also recently posted a TR from Nor Easter last month. I have a great Photo gallery up on line for that event.
